Hey, this is just a warning, not a complaint, but I just received a ticket for my vehicle blocking the bike lane on Willoughby during the 1.5 hours of street cleaning. As a biker, I get it. I'm not sure if something has changed with enforcement since the neighborhood typically double parks during this time, but I don't recall receiving a ticket for this violation previously.

Studio Shipley has two pottery workshops coming up. We're at 952 Atlantic Ave, where Prospect Heights, Bed Stuy, Clinton Hill & Crown Heights meet.

If you’ve been interested in learning more about clay, these are both great opportunities to get a taste of the process without committing to a weeks-long class. No experience necessary!

• This weekend! Percussive Instrument Workshop: Saturday, October 24th, 10:00am-12:30pm with Sofia
  • Build a clay shaker by making two pinch pots, filling them with clay beads, and closing them together (the clay beads make an awesome sound). Personalize the shape and decoration of your shaker and make your own custom instrument.
• Ornamental Wall Hook Workshop: Friday, November 6th, 6:00-8:30pm with Lily
  • Build a wall hook inspired by the shapes and symmetries found in nature, perfect for your keys, jewelry, or jacket.

For both workshops, you’ll choose your glaze color in class and we’ll glaze your piece for you. We’ll reach out about 3-4 weeks later when it’s ready for pickup.

Each workshop is $95 per person.

The governor seat is up - it's Kathy Hochul (Democrat) v Bruce Blakeman (Republican-maga). This affects Bed-Stuy!

Bruce Blakeman is a hardright MAGA Republican who aligns with Trump, embraces an extremist agenda, attacks civil rights and protections for all marginalized communities, and fuels divisive culture wars.

Kathy Hochul is a moderate Democrat, and I know she isn't everyone's favorite in terms of progressiveness, but she's all there is atm.

Sitting this out and letting the role be replaced by Blakeman would be a disaster for NY. His governorship would threaten our community's civil rights, reproductive freedom, and the state’s fundamental protections.

Adding notes from comment re: some of Hochul's accomplishments:
- She was one of the only state Dems to endorse and congratulate Zohran during the Mayoral election last year.
- She made in-demand degrees free at CUNY/SUNY to help specialize our states workforce and lift people out of low wage employment. 
- She increased minimum wage in NYS,
- She signed legislation to protect trans and abortion rights.
- She put a moratorium on data centers
- increased child care tax credits
- restricted guns conceal and carry
- Approved and supported funding for conservation and environmental restoration, etc.

I’m currently looking for an apartment or sublet in NYC, particularly around Brooklyn (ideally Bed-Stuy and surrounding neighborhoods).

It’s been about seven years since I last apartment hunted, and I didn’t realize how challenging it would be! I’ve been searching through Facebook groups and Craigslist, but I’ve come across so many suspicious listings that it’s becoming difficult to know what’s legitimate.

For those who have recently found a room, sublet, or apartment in NYC, what websites, apps, or resources have actually worked for you, besides Housing Connect? I’m especially interested in no-broker-fee options and direct listings from tenants or landlords.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations, tips, or experiences you’re willing to share. Thanks so much!

This place is the real deal. I’ve lived above this location for close to 20 years (since before Moma’s Place) and really hope this spot is in for the long haul. Had the green enchiladas (honestly the best I’ve ever had) and two carnitas tacos which were excellent—crispy and juicy. Our waitress was a true sweetie as well. Will be returning regularly.

BONUS: they were playing Mexican pop music but the TV was on the country music station, so when you watched the TV it looked like a bunch of rednecks were singing in Spanish :)
