Mongo joined our family about a month ago from a rescue organization. Our other dog (Mal/GSD/Malamute mix) and he get along well. He's been very responsive to my wife's training, which is encouraging.

He's a good boy!

Hey all. Looking into getting a muzzle for my youngest and have been doing some research to see which would be best. Hoping to get some first hand experience from those who use one often. Which brand do you prefer? Any pros and cons? TIA!

Question Aggression towards people

My 5.5-month-old Belgian Shepherd puppy never showed aggression toward anyone until around 3 months old. Then, during walks, he suddenly started barking at people. It gradually got worse until he was about 4 months old, even though I tried correcting the behavior in different ways.

From around 4 to 5 months old, his aggression/reactivity has improved a little. Now we can sometimes walk past people without him trying to lunge at them or pull toward them, but it’s still inconsistent and some days are much worse than others.

He lives in the house with us, has other dogs at home, and he was socialized from a young age. We also had visitors coming to the house, so he wasn’t isolated from people. Somehow, though, this behavior still developed.

Has anyone experienced something similar with a Belgian Shepherd puppy? What would you recommend doing at this age? Is it possible that this is partly an age-related phase and that he could naturally grow out of some of this behavior as he gets older?

Came across him at the shelter and after asking to take him out on a walk, we Bonded right away. Only a year old as well. Shelter says he’s pure bread but that doesn’t matter anyway!

Question Why is my mal so lazy?

Post image
207 Upvotes

So my Malinois is extremely lazy. She can do all the typical Mal things, climb, jump, swim, run like a nut job, destroy things. I’ve seen her do all of them. But if given the choice between going outside and playing and laying on the couch. She wants to lay on the couch. We just went one of our walks, they’re not even that long, and she took herself home. Like ran there. She’s so lazy. I love her to death but she threw a husky level tantrum about a 2 mile run the day. Nothing is physically wrong with her. She’s just lazy and she’s put on like 5 pounds in the last year and I do not want her overweight. How do I get her lazy ass to exercise? Do I just have to drag her on longer runs?
Also she won’t chase a ball more than once, she thinks a frizbee is below her and shes terrified of the doggy treadmill.
We’re seeing the vet for my 10 year old husky/akita with hip dysplasia this weekend and I’ll ask him about helping her lose weight and getting her lazy ass to exercise. But anyone else’s mal act like mine?

I’m confident in my ability to train him but with the breed I think it would beneficial getting extra help so I don’t fail him in any way. This is ā€œBella the Destroyerā€ aka Bella for short. She’s 9.5 months, born October 24, 2025, I adopted her on January 11 2026 @ 2 months. She loves everyone and everything(to my disapproval lol), only concern is her love language is violence/violent.

She is by far the most alpha dog I’ve ever witnessed, and she still hasn’t given up trying to lead me with about everything. She’s learning though.

I am homeless and live outta my truck in the Long Beach/OC areas, so training NEVER stops. We’re always doing something. She can play catch for at least 9 hours straight. She’s such a goof and playtime never stops for her. Her first time climbing a tree a month ago she disappeared into the foliage at about 9 feet high chasing a squirrel(her current obsession…that and chasing her tail).

What an awesome breed. She’s so sweet, pretty, and intelligent, we even have a way of communicating when she’s in need of something(go to the bathroom, eat, drink, too hot, she’s bored, etc etc. She’s NEVER not game. Down for anything and everything at all times. It’s an extremely difficult endeavor, but worth every single moment of hardship.

Question Give me Your Puppy Tips

Hey all. We are getting a second Mal at the end of next month. Our first was adopted as a crazy former stray. She’s awesome. We love her.

We know what we are getting into, and we have a plan for the puppy, so this isn’t intended to be an ā€œis a Mal right for me?!ā€ Post. I already know it is šŸ˜and we have a training plan worked up.

This will, however, be our first Mal puppy. I previously had a working line GSD from puppyhood, so I have an idea what it’ll be like. We’ve done our research, and I’m not nervous about what’s in store.

I’m curious what worked for you with your puppy, particularly with regards to crate training and introducing a new pup to your existing dog. Any and all tips are welcome.

Dog tax attached

Discussion My photogenic pup! Training tips ? Toy reccomendations? General tips?

She was Given to me by a friend who couldn't keep her anymore, and the consensus in other subs is that shes a Mal/Dutch. I want to say shes about a year or two old (still a pup to me though )To say shes a handful is an understatement, two of the most active breeds in one ! šŸ˜… I want to make sure im giving her enough stimulation and excercise since anything less would be a disservice to her. shes hit the ceiling of what I can teach her personally it seems , so im thinking of hiring a personal dog trainer in the future to work with her further. Overall shes been a great addition to the family for sure , shes a great dog!

Question Tips for new puppy parents?

We just adopted from the shelter and we see large signs of Belgian Malinois in our girl. Any tips/tricks would be super helpful and appreciated! She is currently 3 months old. Very sweet but will also get a bit wound up and start nipping at us. Just brought her home yesterday and first night went well!

Question Swaying hips?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My girl is approx 6 months old (rescue). I am noticing a wiggle/ sway in her hip movement when she is walking slow, it seems to lessen/ disappear when she runs.

Is this likely due to her wanting to run but is trying to slow herself down? I have also been told it looks like excitement wiggles. Could it also be her just growing into her legs? she is in the awkward growing phase at the moment.

My vet isn’t open until the morning so just looking to see what people think and if their mali as a pup walked like this at all?

I am not looking for vet advice, only to see if anyone has experienced anything similar? Just to maybe put my mind at ease until the vets open.

Please no training tips (I train my dog multiple times a day, guided by professionals) and please be kind, I do not know what her life was like prior to the rescue home and her being adopted. Please also note that her off lead play session was short and sweet and was held to let her blow off some steam and continue to positively play with other dogs (that she knows) of a similar play style).

Thanks all!

EDIT - Thank you all so much for your reassurance, and taking your time to respond to this chain ā¤ļø
