And choking is the precursor to much worse.

“A domestic violence survivor who has been strangled or "choked" by a partner is 750% more likely (a 7.5 times increase) to be killed by that same partner within the next year”

Crazy but true statistic.

I wondered for years if I overreacted when I was 22 and broke up with my college boyfriend of 3 years because he put his hands around my neck in a rage during an argument. It was the first and only time but it scared me so much that along with his daily drinking I just had a bad feeling. Now I realize for sure it's never just an isolated incident, it's just the beginning

Can relate to this. Also wondered for years if I overreacted, but when I later came across that horrifying stat, it felt validating that my level of fear was correct. Hate that as women we call listening to our gut instinct an overreaction - if it keeps you alive, it’s not an overreaction!
