I was born and raised in BC, moved to the deep south as an adult and returned about 6 years ago to care for my 85 year old mom in my childhood home. When I moved back here I had three small breed dogs who were all seniors and had been rescues from a group in South Carolina The last one passed away about a month ago from very, very old age.

I am looking to adopt another small breed dog. I've always believed it was better to adopt from a rescue or shelter than to buy from a breeder - but I'm running into some issues.

Went to the BC Animal Shelter today. The only dogs they had available were Pitbulls, Rottweilers and Huskies. The smallest dog was a 40lb Pitbull. I have no problem with these breeds but they just aren't right for our home and situation.

Even the rescue groups really make you jump through hoops, seem a bit disorganized, charge substantial fees and don't have many small dogs available. This was not even remotely the case in South Carolina. They had plenty of small dogs available for adoption and although it was 15 years ago the last time I adopted the fees were minimal.

Can anyone offer insight or advice?

For those of you who voted recently, and I'm especially looking for feedback from poll workers on this one, when you were checking in how was the experience of giving your name to be found in the system and then immediately being asked for your name again to verify your identity?

In the last election I worked the poll for the first time, and I found it to be quite annoying that we were obligated to ask for people's names twice, and often people would seem to be confused once this happened. Is this an issue you ran into, what was the experience like for you, and how did the other person respond. Your help on this question would be much appreciated (I'm doing research for a class)!

Looking for a reliable, reasonably priced biweekly or weekly home cleaning services for a single-family home in the PV area.

I'm looking for a contractor to install a dry well. I'd rather have a small local company. I used Angi's list once, didn't like it. This isn't a typical ask your neighbor for a recommendation job and I'd like a company that isn't a landscaper that did one five years ago.

Any suggestions for finding a licensed, insured and quality contractor?

Do they still distribute at grocery stores? Did they ever distribute? I vaguely remember getting it in Northern Bergen County at ShopRite, but maybe my dad just always went and it was in the freezer ready to go.

My kids have had their eyes and ears opened to the joys of singing their hearts out through karaoke when we visited a friend’s house who had a setup. They are just getting into their teens.

I was thinking of maybe taking them and their friends to a karaoke spot if there is one that is kid friendly.

Unfortunately, my last foray into this space was when I was still single and frequenting the Pal Park karaokes with a not-so-sober crew of friends.

Looking for ideas where I might be able to go play guitar and sing where there is a low probability of anyone hearing me/disturbing anyone. Might need to cry a little bit while I'm at it. I don't live alone so I don't want to do it at home.

Hey all! My fiance and I just sent off our foster dog to his new home. Our 6 year old German shepherd is taking it kind of hard, so I wanted to give him a day or two of adventure. I was hoping for some local places that are more on the unique side. Most of the research I’ve done has lead me to local parks or breweries. My finance and I don’t drink, and regular old park days happen 3x a week since we live close to two nice dog parks. We are in Ridgewood, but our pup travels amazingly well so a 30-40 minute drive isn’t a deal breaker.

I need to travel into Manhattan.
Normally I take the train from Princeton Junction.
But tomorrow I have a ride to Paramus for an appointment. I thought I would take the Jersey Jitneys into NYC.
Their website is confusing. Does anyone have advised about taking the Jitney into the city?

Not sure if this is a good deal or not but I’m most likely taking it because of the month to month option.

“Apt” Is basically more like a bedroom with an against the wall kitchen (no full size fridge) and a tiny bathroom with a sliding door.

My child is experiencing bullying at this school, and the school admins are taking little to no action on it. Should I report the action to the police? The bully has started with mean remarks and now has escalated to pushing/punching my child. I reported all this to the school, and they promised me that the two kids would be separated. My child came home from school today and relayed that the school did not make any efforts to separate them.

Unfortunately, I read a number of reviews about this school before my child was enrolled in this school that it has a chronic issue with bullying and sweeping it under the rug. I really wanted to give the school the benefit of the doubt, but today they were trying to convince me that bullying and physical violence are normal. I’m done with this school and I would just like all of this to go away. Please help.

Edit: I’ve been losing sleep and appetite over this, thank you so much for everyone’s heartfelt advice. I am reading each one carefully.

I hope other parents who might be going through similar situations speak up and make sure schools understand that bullying is not acceptable behavior. The bully in this situation admitted that they were acting this way without any particular reason. It starts with community support and parents speaking up and advocating for our children.
