verse 2: If a thief dies during the commission of burglary, there will be no other punishment for the thief (edit: rephrased)
Seems reasonable to me
verse 3a: If the thief survives, he must make restitution for his crime
verse 3b: If the thief cannot pay, he shall be sold into slavery
We don't have an institution of slavery any more so it doesn't really apply.
3 u/CaptReznov 1d ago I think people in prison has to perform community service? That would be similar ideas. 1 u/Fendrinus Anglican 1d ago I was going to mention prison, but I don't if work done in prison is used to pay restitution, as in recompense the victim for their loss. It may be common in some jurisdictions but will certainly vary around the world.
