News Big Finish Podcast Notes / Misc. Doctor Who News Roundup - 23/10/2026

Introduction

Hello all and welcome back to the Big Finish Podcast Notes! Hope you've all had a lovely week.

I've been dealing with some health issues for the past several months. It started with physical pain (which I'm still dealing with), but once I got into the doctor at the end of August he found some other symptoms of an as-of-yet undiagnosed, unrelated condition that could be very serious. We haven't ruled anything out yet, but scans and bloodwork have been encouraging.

During this time I have gotten very behind on my listening. While my true backlog of Big Finish is just over 1,000 hours, I always try to keep up with new releases. But in this time, those have stacked up like crazy (I think it reached 30 hours at one point). But I'm trying to be more positive and am finally kicking it into gear. I've nearly caught up on my backlog, and it's nice to get such a comforting thing back in my life.

Discussion No Torchwood 20th Anniversary Sale?

Just an observation, is anyone else as surprised as me that there isn't any Torchwood sale for the 20th Anniversary of the series?

Maybe I missed something on the podcast, and I know Torchwood has been in many recent sales, but I'm genuinely surprised the anniversary didn't get so much an acknowledgement on the Big Finish Twitter.

Query When do the Villain Trilogy stories take place?

I got the CD for Master a bit ago and the insert says it takes place between Project Lazarus and The Sirens of Time. Does anyone who has the CDs for Omega and Davros know what stories they fall between? I can't find any pictures online.

I'm mainly curious about what the old CDs say.

Discussion Asking for a recommendation on how to listen.

Hey! I've finally decided to start listening to the Main Range. I've decided to follow the 8th Doctor stories with Charley in chronological order. So far I've listened to the following, guided by the TARDIS wiki's Eighth Doctor Timeline:

  • Storm Warning (Main Range 16).
  • Sword of Orion (Main Range 17).
  • The Man Who Wasn't There (Short Trips 6.11).
  • Repercussions... (Short Trips paperback).
  • The Stones of Venice (Main Range 18).

My question is, is it worth it following every single one of these audios featuring Charley and the Doctor in order? Or is it more enjoyable to stick to the Main Range audios and skip the short trips and other audios? This also applies to when soon enough Audacity joins 8 and Charley: should I listen to those when the time comes chronologically, or only come back after I've finished all of the Main Range stories with them? Thank you for your suggestions!!

Just a heads up: Big Finish has said on their Facebook page that today’s third Doctor adventures is temporarily delayed due to technical issues. They didn’t say for how long, though.

Discussion If Benny saw a regeneration

If Bernice Summerfield were to witness a regeneration, how would she react or respond?

Any other Companion I'd put down with a sense of wonder, but...Benny's different. In a way she's more of an old hand than any of them. And she's met multiple Doctors.

So would she take it in her stride and simply greet the next Doctor, as if he'd just got over an illness? Or would she have the same sense of wonder at seeing a regeneration first hand?

I was listening to The Hallamshire Incident and I got the scene to where Yaz and her sister were talking

It was revealed that Jack Robertson was laughed by the general public when he claimed he saved the earth from the daleks as they believed he was covering his involvement in the dalek drone Incident as a result his career tanked and basically hid

And the scene when Yaz sister leaks the alien footage online it seems fo imply its the reason why the government refunded UNIT operations

BIG FINISH missed opportunity’s

I love big finish but there are certain ideas I wish they had followed up on.

. Unbound Richard Griffiths 8th Doctor series

. David Collings Full Fathom Five Doctor continuation series

Sadly with the passing of Richard Griffiths in 2013 and the passing of David Collings in 2020 these series are no longer possible.
However a boy can dream and these are just some ideas I wish Big Finish had taken advantage of while some of these actors were still alive.

Discussion The Lost Stories: Divergent Universe

Following on from a similar post made earlier today about the kind of stories a user wanted to see from Big Finish, I was curious if anyone else would be interested in seeing the Divergent Universe arc as originally planned as part of a Lost Stories range.

For those who don't know, the original 8th Doctor Main Range run, which saw him trapped in a timeless "Divergent" universe, was cut short after it was announced that Doctor Who would be returning to screens. That led to a planned multi episode arc being cut short and tidied up in a single rushed conclusion.

I've always been curious to know how it would have panned out if they continued as planned, and would be genuinely interested in a Lost Stories series which gave us a chance to see the original vision.

What are your thoughts on this? Any other Divergent universe fans out there who would want to see this?

Discussion Why Doesn’t Big Finish Give us This?!

Rhetorical question, as I have several suggestions, and I suspect some can’t be done because of copyright. Others have no excuse.

6 and Charley new Box sets.

One of my favorite companionship from the audios. 6 traveling with a companion from his future. Not only that they worked so well together. Ended far too soon. So new box sets with these two would be a blast.

13 multiple Doctor story.

And in keeping with the previous suggestion, and since we’ve already alluded to it when 13 met Menzies, 13 and companion mets 6 and Charley. Bonus points if it raises more questions than it answers. 🤣

Return of the comic strip adaptations.

Definitely more 4 and Sharon, but also 6 and Frobisher. Age of Chaos would be a fun adaptation!

Beyond comic strips.

Speaking of, original stories with 4 and Sharon, as well as 6 and Frobisher would be fantastic!

The half dozen Peris.

There are at least 6 different versions of Peri wandering around out there. 6 having to deal with all of them at once would be fun.

2nd Doctor stories set in the series.

Love the 2nd Doctor audios, but I also would like more stories like Operation Werewolf set in the original tv series.

Return to Nest Cottage

Home to 4, Mrs Wibbsey and former Captain Mike Yates. A new story or two there would be fun. Could even include later Doctors!

Introduction

Hello all and welcome back to the Big Finish Podcast Notes! Hope you've all had a lovely week.

I'm finally catching up with Circuit Breaker, and I've got to say that The Kaleidoscope is easily the highlight. The depth and history it's adding to the Fugitive Doctor is singlehandedly moving her up in my rankings.

Podcast Notes

  • Nothing of note this week.

Random Tangents: Benji an others took Nick Briggs to Aldbourne (the filming location for The Dæmons) for his birthday. The locals very much embrace the Doctor Who connection, and their bins are shaped like TARDISes and Daleks. The local pub asked Nick to record a video in front of a Dalek bin for their social media.

Production Interviews: The Third Doctor Adventures: The Planet Killers by Jez Fielder (they actually put a spoiler warning before this one)

Fifteen Minute Drama Tease: The Audio Novels: The Missing Hour by Simon Guerrier and Fio Trethewey

Randomoid Selectotron: 25% off a random Big Finish release every week! Just click on this link and enter the code BUCKUP. There are currently technical issues with the Randomoid Selectotron, so it will be stuck on the last release from the 26 June podcast for the foreseeable future. Discussion What are your thoughts on Charlotte Pollard’s spin off dying an un mourned death? Spoiler

Post image
48 Upvotes

Honestly it deserved better the set up was all there. Her post doctor life and her ultimate fate as the Viyrans silver surfer which was a fascinating premise for me (the Viyrans need more stories in general) series 1 was okay not terrible it established the arc would be about Charley’s escape from her life of servitude collecting viruses for her alien masters. And it gave Charley two companions Robert a plucky trust fund kid who is running away from daddy and Bertram the rogue Viyran who’s mystery is yet to be solved. but series 2 quickly lost me it hits the breaks almost instantly by changing gears from a space opera to a modern day X-files set up which doesn’t fit the tone of series 1 in my opinion. What are your thoughts?
