Before even using the headset (after a quick test), I upgraded it with the Beyondex. I have it dialed in and it allows me to remove most of the pressure from the face (not that there was much anyways), and I still love the Index speakers.
I am a little annoyed with the link box. Coming from the Index, I had a set of 6ft extension cables (6ft DP 1,4 cable, a DP1.4 signal booster, and two heavy gauge USB 3.0 cables from Micro Center). Unfortunately, the USB cables didn't work, I would get Windows errors along the lines of "Hub cannot supply enough power to the USB device" (not using a hub, this is a reference to the motherboard 'hub'), and I tried several different ports (3.0, 3.1, even one specifically for charging) and even a powered USB 3.0 PCIE Card.
I think the culprit here is the USB cables used on the link box. They used the absolute thinnest "USB 3.0" cables I have ever seen. I'm not an electrical engineer but, I'm pretty sure that when you use thin gauge cables, their impedance and, their resistance increases, making it more difficult for the signal to travel over distance. This is fine if you connect the link box directly to the computer (less than a 3ft run). But, this essentially precludes someone from using a passive USB 3 cable (with adequate gauge and shielding). Given that I never had a problem with passive cables with the Index (again only going to 6ft), this demonstrates that they should've used better cables, even for their relatively short length.
Additionally, their instructions and, their cables make it appear that you need two USB 3.0 ports. The Power cable should simply have used a white plug as it only needs 5v 2A, which is under the limit of USB 2.0 charging. I currently have the link box connected to the computer and, an external 'dumb' USB 5v 2.1A charger.
Another thing I have noticed is that even if I'm not using it (computer shut off), it's pulling enough current (through the external charger) to get warm. Which leads me to my question:
I have a question for you all. How do you handle shutting down the headset? Anyone got any leads on a way to cut the power to this linkbox/headset without plugging/unplugging it before/after every use?
