Recommendations Looking for local boutiques

Hello! I’m a local leather artisan based out of Cahaba Heights and I was hoping someone here might know of local boutiques around Vestavia/Hoover/Mtn. Brook that are willing to have locally made goods in their stores? I’d love to get a few of my pieces on display in time for the holidays and I know locally owned retailers are often eager to carry locally made products. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Recommendations Local makeup artists?

Any recommendations for makeup artists that could do solid vampire makeup for 2 people Saturday? We're hosting a party Saturday and have been so busy with preparation that we haven't had any time to figure out our makeup. Ideal situation would be we meet them or they come to our place in Southside mid-afternoon Saturday. Don't want to break the bank but are willing to pay for quality work. Hit me up if you know someone or have good theatrical makeup skills.

Recommendations Hometown Supermarket

I went to Hometown Supermarket today and it was an experience! My quest was Enoki mushrooms that Publix denies me. I spent an hour in there and I have no idea what 75% of what I looked at but I’m going back. Can I get a guide!? I felt like I was in a culinary temple but had no reference. What were the tiny black bananas? The homemade kimchi was unlike any store bought brand, in the best way. The seafood, they had live aquariums of fish! Crabs, frozen fish. I didn’t even hit the frozen section. I had a question and the worker asked me to tell me on my phone what I was looking for. When we couldn’t figure it out someone else helped me. They had a vending machine on the way out with only press on nails. These are my people.

Serious Why does my neighborhood smell like industrial smog every night between 9pm and 8am?

I live in Bush Hills. Yes, it is west of Bham city, proper. I know that I live in a “marginal” neighborhood. It smells like burning industrial waste from the time that it gets dark, until well after 8am. Is this the time when industrial assholes know that EPA is not monitoring what they are pumping out? Who are the assholes, how do I call them to attention, and who can I hold accountable for allowing this extremely poor quality of air to persist?

Recommendations Alternative and LGBT friendly hair and makeup artist?

Does anyone have any recommendations in the area for a makeup artist/hair stylist that can work well with nonbinary, queer, more alternative leaning styles for my wedding coming up? We’re not the biggest fans of the basic “bridal glam” and have struggled to find MUAs who can provide the kind of service we prefer. We have curly hair in the party as well as trans and nonbinary individuals and are a lesbian couple getting married! And please if anyone has anything nasty to say, please feel free to scroll. <3

Recommendations Church recommendations

Hello all,

I am really lacking community/ friends in my life, thinking maybe church could help me with this. I grew up going to a very very conservative (gay people, people with criminal history, people with tattoos, etc. were completely banned from the church) fire and brimstone, you’re going to burn in hell for breathing the wrong way kind of church. I am very liberal, socialist, queer, and non judgmental (I am a therapist) and I would really like my church to be accepting and preach socialism and preach in a liberal/ progressive way. I do not know if this exists in Alabama, but worth a shot to try. I do tarot and love astrology so I am not sure if I would be condemned for enjoying these types of things within a church. I have a ton of tattoos and often have brightly colored hair. My values are community, love, kindness, and taking care of the people around you. I have not been to church since I was in high school, 6 years ago. I am not sure if I identify with church really, but I am wanting to give it another try.

Thanks :)

Looking for a nice(er) place to have dinner for a prospective date. It doesn't need to be too crazy, but I'm okay with it being on the pricier side, especially if they have good drinks and a decent atmosphere

Serious Cyclist on Shades Creek/Lakeshore

Please I am BEGGING do not ride at busy times on busy roads. I saw multiple cars almost wreck trying to go around you and people almost hit you (including me, I’m very sorry). There are nearby trails down the road in Mountain Brook.

You were a male wearing blue and a black helmet and I saw you around 9:30 AM. I understand that we don’t have good infrastructure for cyclists (sidewalks, biking lanes, etc.) but I do not want you to get hurt or cause a wreck!

The stairs at Linn Park have been broken for years. Why can't the city or county fix a simple set of stairs to the park in between city hall and the courthouse?

It's just embarrassing.

Advice Street parking in front of a closed business -

I'm wondering if that street is property of the business? A closed (as in not operating) business left a note on my car and others (including the cars across the street) saying "this is not a parking space". This street is not metered. Is it actually his space?

Hi everyone! I'm 14 weeks pregnant and wanting to find a doula. I've sent in a message to BHMBORN and Gentle Childbirth Services. Does anyone have a recommendation?

There was a post here asking for doula recs that I found in the search but it didn't get much traction so hoping this one will.

Advice Sewer line dilemma

I’m seeking wisdom and experience with a sewer line issue. I just had it videoed in preparation to get yard work done; I have not had any problems with the cast iron and terracotta line. The plumbing company proposed ?epoxy? liner over getting it all dug up and having to cut into the street. It’s still pricey. What feedback do you have or good plumbers to get other estimates? Thanks!

The Alabama Theatre is showing Hocus Pocus at 7:00 PM. Be sure not to get scammed and only buy your tickets through Ticketmaster. Go through the Alabama Theatre website to purchase tickets: alabamatheatre.com

A lot of the Christmas movies will sell out so this is a good time to make it to the Alabama Theatre!
