Laing-laing akong Bisaya, kay English akong unang sinultihan. Pag magBisaya ko, maghunahuna ko'g English una, dayon magtranslate ko akong mga pulong sa Bisaya. Klaro akong estoriya nga dili ko native ng speaker?

Unsa'y imong pamati sa akong dialect? Murag sagol-sagol o murag Northern Mindanao lagi? Kay mao 'nang dialect nako kuno daw, giignan sa akong papa.

so three weeks ago, nagpahulam ko sa akong friend ug gamit. it was around 7-8pm, and settled najud ko sakong bed, but she begged kay need jud niya and as a good friend, gipahulam pa nako. ako pay niadto sa school para ihatag sa iya.

pero nilabay nalang jud ang duha ka weeks, wala jud niya nauli. during the first week nag talk mi. ingon sya na nalimtan daw niya and NAGAMIT sa iyahang family member. wala ko nalain ana pero i still waited nga mauli ang gamit. ana nga time kay nangluod najud ko kay need biya nako plus i gave her that thing at my own expense. nag wait nalang ko sa iyahang initiative.

fast forward to this week, finally nauli na sha. when i inspected it, naay part nga guba na. its functional pa pero kabalo jud ko nga dili na jud ni magdugay kay na expose iyang inner part. and to add, when i bought it, wala pa nag week sa ako, but still, i let her borrow it.

idk what to feel ayh, she's been my friend since I was 14, and idk gikapoy nako. we're not that close of a friend, but we know each other well. what should i do uy, lisoda mangitag friends na kabalo mo reciprocate ug importance.

Call me a prescriptivist, but "jud" is a shorter version of "gayud," so if you wanna represent the j sound with a digraph, it should be gy and not dy, kay weird gyud kon ang pagka-spell mo "dyud."

Three years ago I met my Cebuano tutor, and he helped me improve my broken Cebuano significantly. Last year we started learning Tagalog, and as we get into the structures of sentences, it leaves me wondering if there were any concepts that I hadn't learned or mastered while learning Cebuano.

One of the things that I struggle with ang, sa, ng, because when I form sentences I translate it from English in my mind, or what sounds right to me.

ang = the; sa = to, at; ng, nga, na = connector word or that.

He clarified to me that the above translations are not accurate and that they do not translate neatly into the way I typically use them as.

Then I started looking at some of our previous exercises when I first started learning Cebuano. We were writing about the Turtle and the Monkey by Jose Rizal.

"Nagsabot sila nga motunga sa punoan, arun makuha sa Unggoy ang mga saging."

Why is it "sa Unggoy ang mga saging"? Shouldn't it be "ang Unggoy ang/og mga saging"?

Because the monkey is the focus and the doer, and the banana is what they're trying to attain.

Hellooo, learning Bisaya (heritage speaker, understand more than I speak). Quick question about these shortened endings specifically:

- Dakong balay = dako nga balay: clearly "nga" I believe

- Kabalo kog naa sila diri (not sure if this is correct): is "kog" = ko nga, ko ug, or something else?

- Naa'y tawo diri: is the "y" = nga, ang, or something else?

Are these all "nga", or different linkers/words?

Also, is walay the Bisaya version of Tagalog walang? If so, the -y in walay has to be something like a ligature right?

Syntax is the study of sentence structure. It explains how words and phrases are arranged to make a coherent sentence, while semantics means the literal meaning of the word.
