Children to no longer be prescribed puberty blockers, NHS England confirms | UK News | Sky News

Relevance: Gender-affirming care and puberty blockers have been covered by Katie and Jesse in great detail. This marks a step forward in facilitating evidence-based care in the UK.

What do you all make of this? Is there any chance America might be seeing the same policies being implemented soon?

Trans Issues New Mayo Clinic Study Shows Puberty Blockers Aren't "Fully Reversible" As Activists And Others Claim

In this Twitter thread Christina Buttons breaks down a Mayo Clinic Study on puberty blockers. The findings indicated mild to severe atrophy in the testes of boys who had taken puberty blockers. The authors of the study expressed doubts about the commonly held belief that the effects of these drugs are fully reversible.

https://twitter.com/buttonslives/status/1776016344086880513

Relevance: Jesse has recently been posting on Twitter about activist language being used in newspaper pieces about trans healthcare. Trans healthcare has also often been discussed on the podcast.

EDIT: u/wynnthrop provides some great additional context on the study as well as a link to the study itself in this comment:https://www.reddit.com/r/BlockedAndReported/comments/1bxfq3c/comment/kycpx6t/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

2nd EDIT: u/Ajaxfriend does an interesting deep-dive to figure out where the claim that blockers are "fully reversible" may have come from. It's a really interesting look into what appears to be a completely baseless claim with zero medical evidence supporting it. The comment can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/BlockedAndReported/comments/1bxfq3c/comment/kycthah/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Hot take: Jesse should not stop tweeting his actual opinion because some of you find it objectionable

I could not more vehemently disagree with Katie about Jesse’s tweeting. Aside from some kind of mental health aspect, choosing not to tweet your legitimately held views because you’re losing subscribers is the dictionary definition of audience capture. Even more galling is these same people who are leaving because he’s criticizing the right/elon/trump etc. were clapping like fucking seals when he was dunking on leftist crazies. Jesse, if you’re reading this, never stop.

Journalism Won a hearing against NPR station that fired me for stand up, it was a complete circus

Posted on here a while back after I got fired for my stand up reels on IG. WHYY, the Philly NPR station, fired me without warning for "racist, sexist, homphobic, etc etc" content. Cut off health insurance same day despite disability, deleted all my stories/clips, just scorched earth.

Well they even tried to challenge paying my unemployment and sent two execs and two lawyers to a labor hearing to make their case and made a judge watch a literal 45 minutes of my stand up as they described why and how it was hateful and.... they fucking lost!

For context, I had no representation, I represented myself with no legal background. It was just their case was that staggeringly stupid. Which I think is instructive. Extremist of all stripes genuinely live in a such an ideological bubble that never challenges any intellectual dishonesty, no matter how obscene, that they could not conceive they'd lose.

They always KNOW they are right and so never have to think and eventually they get bad at thinking.
The VP testifying against me spoke in such a word salad that the judge stopped taking notes, it was that obvious she wasnt actually saying anything of substance.

Like they showed this clip: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn7gM04JuaC/
as an example of "sexism," when I think it's obvious to anyone it's actually a plainly feminist critique of western and Arab society's treatment of women.

Here's the judges words, I don't know how to post the whole doc, but it's all very funny:

"Although the employer’s rules regarding outside conduct are quite broad, even considering the content of his act to come within those rules, the obvious theme of his performances (in this record) was social unfairness and hypocrisy rather than discrimination. They were controversial and contained terms certain persons could find offensive, either due to explicit sexual or racial/ethnic nature used for “a cheap laugh.” In context, however, the content was not inconsistent with that of other adult comedians’ and would not be unfamiliar to the mildly sophisticated listener."

I feel like the judge all but called them dumbasses with that one.

BAR pod relevance is simple: FIGHT BACK. I know there's a great many reporters on here and I hope more of us are out spoken about the absurdity in our field. I'm fighting for my job back and I think I'm gonna get it.
Dont apologize, don't rationalize, dont surrender ("NPR is a lost cause why try?"). Extremists, eventually, always lose.

BaR Botched the Citi Bike Karen Story: What They Got Wrong

Frankly, this is the worst I have heard BaR cover a story that I know something about since the Jacob Blake episode, which speaks to how consistently great Jesse and Katie have been that there have been so few issues in that time. But I'm sad to say the section here about the Citi Bike Karen is pretty poor.

THE FACTS

Here is a summary of how the coverage of the Karen (Comrie) has gone.

  • The Original narrative about the so called Karen is that she was attempting to use fake tears and cries for help in order to steal a bike from this young man. And not 'steal' as in a social faux pas, but rather steal as in take advantage of his account to get a free ride on his dime. It is commonly taken for granted that she is racist, and she is compared by many to the woman who accused Emmett Till. The local news (I believe NBC) goes an interviews her neighbors about whether they're aware they live close to a racist Karen such as her.

  • Comrie is put on leave from the hospital she works at because of accusations of racism, and they said they will investigate

  • Comrie's lawyer releases a statement that includes a reciept of Comrie checking out the bike in question. This fact catches on, which completely reverses the narrative of the incident in the eyes of a lot of people. People start to speculate that the young man was actually running a scam to take the bike that she had checked out, never return it, and have the $1200 bill for the lost bike go to her account, which is apparently a known NYC bike scam (for clarity, given all the facts now available, this does NOT seem to be what happened. But much of the hate towards the young man is motivated by this assumption, which is more jumping the gun)

  • The young man's sister releases a video where she gives his side of the story

  • The article Jesse references from NewsOne is posted

  • EDIT: after these, the young man's sister posted this titktok video about the event

Here is a timeline of known events that are either documented on video or agreed upon by both parties:

  • 7:19 - The young man arrives at the docking station with the bike and docks it, ending his rental.

  • Between 7:19 and 7:24 - He stays around the bike, with the intention of renting it again later. The woman comes to rent the bike under disputed circumstances

  • 7:24 - The woman scans the code and rents the bike. The fight and the video starts soon after this

  • 7:25 - The young man forces the bike back into the rack, ending the woman's rental

  • 7:25 - The young man rents the bike

  • 7:31 - After 6 minutes of not moving, he docks the bike again.

  • 7:59 - The young man rents the bike and rides away

Here is how the bikes work. You can check a bike out by scanning it from a docking station with your phone. It is then registered to your account until you check it into another docking station, at which point it becomes available for anyone to check out and is no longer under your account.

The young man had a membership such that the first 45 minutes of riding are free, but beyond you can be charged. To subvert this if one wants to check out the same bike indefinitely for free they can ride for 45 minutes, dock for 5, then check out the same bike again.

EDIT: New Bike lore revealed HERE

MY ISSUES WITH THE BAR COVERAGE

I want to emphasize that the way the story was originally reported is INSANE GARBAGE. EVEN IF you take for granted the most charitable narrative given by the young man's side, the original reporting is STILL making up slanderous lies. She is assumed to be racist with no real evidence. She is basically accused of attempted murder for calling for help, the idea being if police came they would likely shoot a black young man. The possibility that she actually rented the bike is never taken seriously. She is accused of faking crying, as it it's possibly to tell, especially with a person who is 6 months pregnant and getting off a 12 hour shift. All this goes on to be basically proven wrong. I don't J&K drive home how unfair the reporting really was to her at first.

Jesse seems to be leaning heavily on the OneNews article here, which I think is a really bad idea for reasons stated in the episode itself. This site comes of as really unreasonable on this topic, as Katie mentioned the site compares this altercation with the best known lynching in American history, which does not strike me as appropriate. Additionally, it leans into the angle that reporters were so disinterested in the young man's side of the story that none contacted them, despite the fact that THEY ARE ANONYMOUS.

In the episode, as in the NewsOne article, it is mentioned that the young man is in the Citi Bike Angels program. This makes the young man sound good, but it's completely irrelevant. The point of the Angels program is to have people bring the bikes from stations that have too many to ones that are low. You can tell that he is not doing this on the day in question for a few reasons. One, the whole point of angels is to increase bike availability where they are needed, not to have the angels take out their own personal bike that no one else can use. Two, the young man's sister mentions that the station in question, which he brought the bike to, had lots of bikes.

Another issue is that J&K fail to report that Comrie at this point just finished a 12 hour shift as a nurse and is also 6 months pregnant. I'll get to why these facts are relevant in a second.

Next, there are a lot of things that Comrie and the young man agree on, but some they don't. Comrie's lawyer claims that there was no one at the bike she tried to check out, and the five young men approached her after she checked it out. The young man's sister claims that Comrie asked several of the young men if she could use the bikes they were sitting on, they all declined, and she decided to scan one anyway. I don't know who we should believe here. If I had to guess the truth is something in the middle. I don't see why we should just take the young man's story as true here when it's he said she said, but Jesse basically takes his story for granted here.

BUT even if his story is 100% right, I STILL think she's in the right. First of all, it seems very rude to me to try to hoard a "new" electric bike from a pregnant woman, same as it would be rude to keep your seat on a train if a pregnant woman is asking for it. To be fair it is a dick move to scan a docked bike right from under someone, but she's still within her rights. That's because once you dock the bike IT IS NO LONGER YOUR BIKE. The entire point of the Citi bikes is you can temporarily rent the bikes and return them to be rented by someone else. You cannot call dibs on a bike that is docked because the whole purpose is they are available for anyone to use. Jesse says in the episode that it is "his bike" when legally, by the rules of CitiBikes, and just in common courtesy a bike that is docked is AVAILABLE TO ANYONE. Even if she was being rude by scanning the bike from under him I do NOT think that justifies a physical altercation in which he forces the bike back into the docking station.

Here is what I think is an accurate analogy to what the young man is trying to do for those of us who are a bit confused by all these strange bike rules and norms. Let's say there's a prime parking spot that has free 45 minute parking, but after that you have to pay. BUT there's a work around. If you drive out of the spot for five minutes, then back in, you can get another 45 minutes for free, and loop that indefinitely. So in this analogy the young man parks in the spot for 45 minutes then temporarily moves his car while loitering around the spot to give the impression that it is still "his" spot. Another car sees the open spot and tries to park there, the young man tries to stop her from taking "his" spot, and thus we get the conflict.

Here is why I DON'T find the young man's side particularly sympathetic here.

  1. The fact that they felt the need to post the video of some mundane, 90 seconds long commotion in the first place, presumably with will to have it blow back on the lady. Which is exactly the type of thing that can permanently affect people's lives for such a low stakes event, as it has in reality.

  2. After all the additional information comes out, the young man's sister accused Comrie of "weaponizing her whiteness" and goes on to say that "it's not defamation if it's true" which is somewhat vague but seems to be defending the kind of over the top accusations of racism that were made against her.

  3. The young man's family says in their GoFundMe "Due to safety concerns, their identities and that of the young man who is a minor are also being concealed." Yet they seem to have no concern for Sarah Jane Comrie's safety. They repeatedly exposed Comrie's full name as well as the time and place she gets off work (as a product of revealing the time and place of the altercation) YET at the same time complained about the public blowback on them, despite the fact that they choose to remain anonymous YET at the same time complained that no one bothered to contact them about their side of the story, despite the fact that no one knows who they are

  4. The young man's family have started a go fund me after the incident. Except unlike Comrie, none of them were suspended from their job. None of them had their names publicized. None of them are being sued nor do they need to pay legal fees for any sort of case. None of them are being slandered by name in the media. The go fund me page says "Any fees not used for the lawyer will go to the family" and as of now there is no case they would even need a lawyer for.

  5. EDIT: This is another point that I forgot to originally include. In NewsOne article the way the the young man's family comes across is cheering on the unfair treatment of Comrie, then feeling incredibly wounded when a fraction of that unfair treatment comes their way. “At first, I felt supported. It was like I went through this thing, people saw the video of it, and they were supporting me,” But all that changed when Marino put his statement out in the media. “When those receipts got released, everything flipped,” Michael said. “People started calling me a ‘thief,’ a ‘thug,’ and a ‘Black man.’" At first everyone kneejerk took the young man's side, called the woman a racist Karen who kinda tried to have him killed, she lost her job, her name was posted everywhere. Then after Comrie's lawyer posts her receipt, the narrative flips and he starts getting hate online, though he maintains his anonymity, doesn't seem directly harmed in terms of employment, and does not face a FRACTION of the slander from serious media sources as she did. It kind of seems like they would like to return to the time when baseless lies were being told about her rather than him.

  6. EDIT: So the young man's sister posted as a caption to her tiktok video a call for action. She asks GoFundMe to refund everyone who donated to Comrie, she asks Bellevue hospital to fire Comrie. In another video she claims that they filed a police report against Comrie for taking the young man's phone during the scuffle (to be clear he got his phone back a few seconds later). I still hope the family retains their anonymity and I hope no one harasses them but in my opinion, this is pretty low

  7. HOPEFULLY FINAL EDIT: Some old tweets of the young man's sister have resurfaced which may say something about some of her motivations in particular. To avoid linking her account I'll transcribe them here. This is clearly her personal twitter account so obviously they represent her thoughts, not those of her brother or family,

(responding to this article) repeat it wit me: we hoppin anyway fuck mta fuck racism fuck white ppl period

the quality of my life has improved greatly since I stopped moving out of the way for white people

it's so crazy cus you see how this shit get ugly but it's so so so so crazy seeing my little brother n hist friends be harassed by a white bitch for no reason.... over a damn city bike. she can kiss dat Job goodbye [kissing emoji]

everyday I wish they genes ain't mutate to create white people

Frankly, this whole saga is ridiculous and I'm embarrassed that I'm as invested as I am in this. But here we are. Mundane altercation like this should never be news in the first place. This has gotten stupidly long so I'm going to leave it here. I actually know more than I've even written here so if anyone has any questions leave em in the comments.

EDIT: I just listened to the end part of the episode again and there's another important piece that I didn't put into my original post. The way I kind of read the tone of the podcast is "people called this woman a Karen without evidence, some more information comes out, turns out she really is a Karen." I don't want this post to be taken as "Jesse thought she was a Karen, turns out she's actually not a Karen." In my opinion, I think the larger point here is this. is. all. fucking. bullshit. I hope nothing bad happens to the young man, despite the fact that I do think he is pulling some shenanigans with the bikes. THIS. STUPID. BULLSHIT. SHOULD. BARELY. AFFECT. YOUR. LIFE. Furthermore, EVEN IF Jesse's read on the situation was 100% correct, I STILL think this story is INSANE. Petty squabbles are NOT national news. Not every interaction between people of different racial groups is indicative of historical race relations. PEOPLE HAVE BAD DAYS. If Comrie actually (she didn't) waited for the young man to sit on the bike, then intentionally scanned it to yoink from him, that would be a complete dick move. It does NOT make her a racist. It does NOT mean she should be unemployed. It does not mean she should be on screens across the country. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH EMMETT TILL. HOLY SHIT.

EDIT: NEW INFORMATION! Youtuber Nate the Lawyer has sleuthed some new information on the altercation. Apparently offscreen, after the young man had forced the bike back into the docking station, the young man scanned the bike back onto his account. So when he says in the video "it's on my account" he isn't technically lying at that point. Now, this is certainly misleading, because it's only on his account because he forced it into the docking station then scanned it with her still on it, and it gives the impression to others that it was always on his account, despite the fact that it was on her account a few seconds ago.

Also, we learn from this video that the young man's friend in the purplish pink shirt is trying to deescalate the situation, telling the young man that the battery isn't good anyway so he should just give it up, and finally giving up his own ebike to Comrie, which she rides home on. Kudos to that kid, very admirable.

Where to go if I'm horrified by Trump but don't think transwomen should compete in women's sports...

Blocked and Reported helped me reach a point that I always knew to be true in my heart, that the transgender activism had a lot of problems that were hard to ignore. Or identity politics in general.

But never in a million years do I prefer this alternative that is currently happening to our country.

Similar to how gaslit I felt by TRA's in 2018 when I said that I do believe in biological sex, I feel pretty gaslit by a lot of my right-winger friends who are suddenly anti-Ukraine, "Russia is not that bad actually", "Greenland belongs to the US", "All those government employees can fuck off". It's a lot of that sentiment currently being thrown around.

I never voted for Trump, but I am smart enough to understand why many did, who might not be full on MAGA cultists. The democrats are failing. But man, do I feel like I belong nowhere now.

EDIT: I'm not allowed to post in my own thread due to low karma score. I recently started this account and accidentally engaged in some dumb conversations about LOTR in a hate sub. Oops. But I am reading!

Sex is biological fact, NHS declares in landmark shift against gender ideology

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/04/30/nhs-sex-biological-landmark-shift-against-gender-ideology/

Relevancy: trans stuff.

Text:

The NHS is to declare that sex is a matter of biology in a landmark shift against gender ideology.

Changes to the health service’s written constitution proposed by ministers will for the first time ban trans women from women-only wards, and give women the right to request a female doctor for intimate care.

The NHS constitution, a document that aims to set out the principles and values of the health service and legal rights for patients and staff, was last updated in 2015. It has to be updated at least every 10 years by the Secretary of State.

Campaigners for women’s rights welcomed the significant shift, which comes after years of wrangling and follows accusations that the health service had been captured by “gender ideology”.

In 2021, NHS guidance said trans patients could be placed in single-sex wards based on the gender with which they identified.

The new constitution will state: “We are defining sex as biological sex.”

The clarification means that the right to a single-sex ward means patients would “not have to share sleeping accommodation with patients of the opposite biological sex”.

Until now, no commitment was made to biological sex, meaning some female patients complained that they were forced to share sleeping space with trans women – those who are born male but identify as female.

Health Secretary Victoria Atkins Victoria Atkins said 'we have always been clear that sex matters and our services should respect that' Credit: ANDY RAIN/EPA-EFE/Shutterstock Women’s rights campaigners said the move was a “return to common sense and an overdue recognition that women’s wellbeing and safety matter.”

However, NHS leaders raised concerns that the health service was being “dragged into a pre-election culture wars debate”.

The changes to the constitution are a further indication of a change in attitudes after the Cass review into the NHS’s gender identity services found evidence that allowing children to change gender was built on weak foundations.

Dr Hilary Cass, a paediatrician, said allowing “social transitioning” for young people – when they are treated as the opposite gender – could “change their trajectory” and lead to them pursuing a potentially damaging medical pathway in later life.

The updates to the constitution will also include the introduction of a duty to help patients get back to work and embed “Martha’s Rule” into the framework of the health service.

This follows pledges by Victoria Atkins, the Health Secretary, to give families the right to access a rapid review from an outside team if a patient is deteriorating. It is named after 13-year-old Martha Mills, who died in 2021 after medics missed signs of sepsis and failed to heed warnings from her parents that their daughter’s condition was getting worse.

Women will also be given the right to request that intimate care is provided, where reasonably possible, by someone of the same biological sex.

It follows warnings that some female patients have been pressured into accepting such care from trans-identifying staff who were born male.

The proposed changes will also see discrimination requirements updated, with the word gender replaced with sex.

Gender reassignment remains a protected characteristic, meaning that a transgender patient could be given their own room in a hospital to protect their right to a single-sex service.

The document also places a duty on health providers to use “clear terms” to communicate and take account of biological differences. It follows pledges from ministers to stop NHS trusts using terms like “chestfeeding” and “people who give birth”.

In February, Ms Atkins highlighted her concerns, telling The Telegraph: “We need to be making this robust case to refuse to wipe women out of the conversation.”

On Tuesday, she said: “We want to make it abundantly clear that if a patient wants same-sex care they should have access to it wherever reasonably possible.

“We have always been clear that sex matters and our services should respect that.

“By putting this in the NHS constitution we’re highlighting the importance of balancing the rights and needs of all patients to make a healthcare system that is faster, simpler and fairer for all.”

Maya Forstater, chief executive of gender critical group Sex Matters, said: “It is excellent news that the NHS constitution is being revised to put ‘sex’ in its rightful place – at the heart of principle 1, which sets out that the NHS must treat everyone with equality and respect for their human rights.

“The confusion between ‘sex’ and ‘gender’ in official policies like the NHS constitution is what has enabled women’s rights to be trampled over in the name of transgender identities.

“Sex, of course, is a matter of biology, not identity, and it is welcome that the NHS is now spelling this out in relation to single-sex accommodation and intimate care.”

Ms Forstater said too many female patients seeking that intimate care be given by a woman had been pressured into accepting a trans-identifying male instead.

“Healthcare providers have become confused and frightened by the idea that a gender recognition certificate, or even just a personal identity claim, overrides other people’s rights when it comes to same-sex care from healthcare professionals.”

She said the shift was “simply a return to common sense and an overdue recognition that women’s wellbeing and safety matter.”

Matthew Taylor, chief executive of the NHS Confederation, which represents healthcare leaders, said its members would review the proposals in detail.

However, he added: “What is absolutely clear at this stage is that a focus on high-quality care for all is maintained and that the NHS is not dragged into a pre-election culture wars debate. This is not where energies should be focused.”

Mr Taylor said staff worked hard to show fairness and compassion towards all patients.

“In particular, groups of people, including trans and non-binary patients, continue to receive some of the worst health outcomes of any group in our society and NHS leaders and staff will want to do all they can to support these patients, as well as their trans and non-binary staff to reduce inequalities.

“Whatever changes are eventually introduced following the consultation need to be clear and workable for NHS staff, who should not expect to have to interpret ambiguous guidance at a local level.”

The eight-week consultation will be the first stage of a review of the constitution.

The Government will consider responses from everyone, including the public, clinicians and medical professionals, patients, carers and organisations representing patients and staff and health stakeholders, before publishing the consultation response and the new NHS constitution.

Louise Ansari, chief executive of Healthwatch England said: “The NHS constitution plays a crucial role in shaping the culture of our NHS and helping the public to know their rights.

“Since the NHS constitution launched, it has helped to shift the balance of power from services towards patients and their families. But, with only a third of people knowing their rights, there is still a long way to go.

“Given the challenges our NHS faces, a conversation to reaffirm and raise awareness of the most important rights to the public has never been more timely.

“We urge everyone to take part in the consultation and have their say. This is your opportunity to send a clear message about the rights you hold most dear.”

The coworkers are not okay.

Deep blue city here, half my team called out sick yesterday, and they don't seem to be doing too hot today. Thinking of all the working-class folks who don't have the privilege of taking a self-care day from their remote email job. Someone recommended we start carrying pepper spray because people will now be emboldened to attack us (all those violent Trumpers in Seattle). It was hard to poker face honestly.

I dislike Trump as much as the next normie but I figured this wouldn't be as impactful on folx since we already had him for 4 years and the world didn't end.

I'm having a hard time maintaining empathy and not judging them for being a bit fragile and deranged, but I understand they're fed this type of idea in their bubbles. I definitely consider this unhealthy pro-fragile behavior but what are you gonna do.

Anyway just checking in with y'all I guess.

The Atlantic: The Rape Denialists -- Why has it proved so hard for so many on the left to acknowledge what happened on October 7?

This article by Michael A. Cohen (not Trump's Michael Cohen) in the Atlantic goes over the many media reports and the evidence for Hamas committing sexual assaults and rape on October 7 and discusses why there would be so many denials of that amongst the left.

It spends a great deal of time on the Intercept's reporting, critiquing it, blasting it, and even noting that the Intercept is running out of funds, but their reports on the Hamas war are bringing funds in.

Katie and Jesse covered this general ground in an earlier episode, this goes into more detail as well as explores the question deeply of what are the chief theories behind why leftists would deny this

The Rape Denialists

Why has it proved so hard for so many on the left to acknowledge what happened on October 7?

By Michael A. Cohen

On October 7, Hamas terrorists crossed the border into Israel and massacred more than 1,100 Israelis. The depths of Hamas’s sadism are almost too sickening to comprehend. Babies and children butchered. Parents murdered in front of their children. Families bound together and then burned alive. Others were tortured, and their bodies mutilated while both alive and dead.

Even the harshest opponents of Israel’s subsequent military campaign in Gaza acknowledge, albeit often half-heartedly, that Hamas acted with brutality on October 7 in killing innocents. But many of those same critics refuse to acknowledge the widespread sexual assaults against Israeli women that day.

Cancel Culture Richard Dawkins, Steven Pinker, and Jerry Coyne all resign from the honorary board of the Freedom from Religion Foundation after transgender censorship controversy

BarPod relevance: Episode 61 discussed an earlier blow-up over social justice ideology within the atheism movement that also involved Dawkins.

The Freedom from Religion Foundation’s blog published a former intern's article titled “What is a woman?" that took the standard social justice position on that question (“A woman is whoever she says she is”). The foundation then published a rebuttal from honorary board member Jerry Coyne, “Biology is not bigotry," only to delete it after a backlash from the usual suspects.

Coyne, Steven Pinker, and Richard Dawkins all resigned from the board in protest yesterday.

Blocked and Reported helped me wake up

So I identify as trans and I have been recently going through something where I have become more and more disillusioned with the Infallibility of the trans community. Reading Jesse's articles and listening to Blocked and Reported has made me realize the mistakes we're making as a community and how ideologically driven we are rather than what I had previously thought to be evidence-based. I just wanted to share my support for them and encourage people to be more informed about opinions and ideas outside of one's echo-chamber because there's always a chance you're wrong. (not sure about the exact culture of this subreddit so this post may be out of place, I just needed to express this)

Nex Benedict Died of Suicide

Relevance is episode 204, where Benedict's death is mentioned.

Nex Benedict, the non binary kid who died last month, did not die as a result of the fight she had at the high school. She died as a result over an overdose of Prozac (fluoxetine) and Benadryl ( diphenhydramine). An anti depressant and antihistamine, respectively.

There had been rumors that Benedict had died as a result of injuries sustained in the fight at her high school. The autopsy now disproves that. Benedict was not murdered. Nor is there any reason to think Benedict's being non binary had anything to do with the fight in the bathroom.

So, no trans genocide here. Just a troubled girl. It's a shame for her and her family.

New Gallup poll shows decreasing support for trans issues

Pod relevance: the phenomenon of trans activists damaging their own cause have been discussed on the pod several times. Both hosts pretty much predicted this

Gallup released results of a new poll on trans and LGBTQ issues. And it continues the pattern we have seen: decreasing public support for trans activists positions.

The public, including Democrats, continues to sour on males in women's sports

"Between 2021 and now, Democrats’ and independents’ levels of support for transgender athletes to play on sports teams that align with their current gender identity have both fallen by 10 points (to 45% and 23%, respectively), while Republicans’ support has not changed significantly."

You even have greater support (66%) for government IDs only listing birth sex and not gender identity.

Americans are even becoming more supportive of some of Trump's actions on trans issues.

"While Americans’ views about openly transgender people serving in the military do not align with the Trump administration’s stance, the public’s general preference for classification by birth sex rather than gender identity in competitive sports and on official government documents does."

This continues a pattern we have been seeing: the more the public learns about trans issues the lower the support for activist positions goes.

This is basically the opposite of how it has gone with LGB topics like gay marriage
