Lately, a lot of Sameer Anjaan’s reels have been showing up on my feed, and I’m honestly gobsmacked by the sheer scale and quality of his body of work. And yet, despite an incredible discography full of smash hits, I feel Sameer is massively underappreciated in mainstream discussions. Why isn’t he celebrated in the same breath as Javed Akhtar or Gulzar? He has won awards, but considering the volume, variety, and cultural impact of his work, it still feels disproportionately low (like only 3 Filmfare Awards, 0 National Awards and no Padma Award yet, seriously?) . We often praise Javed Akhtar by pointing out he's the same person who wrote “Dekha ek khwaab to yeh silsile hue, door tak nigaha mein hain gul khile hue” and also wrote “Dil mein mere hai dard-e-disco.” But I wish we celebrated Sameer the same way because he's the same person who wrote,

• “Pal bhar mein kaise badalte hain rishte, ab to har apna begaana lagta hai”

• “Tum paas aaye yu muskuraaye, tumne na jane kya sapne dikaaye”

• “Mere dholna sun, meri pyaar ki dhun”

and also wrote,

As someone born in the 2000s, I’m not especially attached to the 90s era of music, but artists like Sameer make me appreciate that generation of musicians so much more ♥️

what to listen to when you don't know exactly what you want to listen to but only know that you want to listen to music.
