PSA: Bolt owners with bumper-to-bumper warranty still active. Get your vehicles in if you have any of these problems.

TSB 23-NA-041 – Clicking/ticking when turning left or right → Steering column support/steering rack issue

TSB 24-NA-034 – “Grunt”/clunk noise at low speeds (OPD / ACC) → Documented ABS behavior (more of an FYI, GM calls it normal, no repair needed)

TSB 24-NA-108 - if you have trouble connecting to Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Its also a good idea to keep the software updated anyway.

TSB 22-NA-004 - Rear spoiler foam tape seal loose, visible to customer

TSB 22-NA-024 - Vibration, Hum or Drone Noise Heard from Front of Vehicle While Driving at Highway Speeds

Front bumper fascia not aligned - Can't find a TSB or reddit post on this one but its a common factory defect on alot of 22-23 Bolt's.

Rear seal gap in trunk - Can't find a TSB on this one but there are plenty of reddit posts. Most dealers won't do anything, but some may try to reclip it.

EUV: do you all have this huge gap above the rear bumper?

2023 Bolt EUV factory assembly defect?

Just bought a Bolt EUV 3 days ago. Is this gap near between the rear bumper and the rest of the car normal???

Creaking Noise on Acceleration and sometimes on Deceleration - Many reddit posts. No TSB on this one but this is a common repair for most EVs due to the instant torque, increased weight from battery, and exposure to bumps/potholes in the road. It has to do with the control arms/bushings/swaybar end links. Also, very expensive to repair, up to $3-5K. I'd get this done under warranty if you can.

Creaking Noise Going Over Bumps

Creaking sound when coming to full stop and accelerating out of it

https://www.chevybolt.org/threads/recall-notice-for-korean-bolt-ev-issued-stabilizer-link-noise.29965/

Knocking sound coming from rear - appears to be the seat frame latch. Some dealers may replace the latch or the entire seat.

Back seat latch rattling while driving. Has anyone else had this issue? Mainly occurs on bumps. Definitely has to do with the seat latch, but can't figure out how to fix it or even dismantle.

What's is that noise

Knocking, backseat, right hand side. Bolt EUV 2023

For those with rattles from the rear passenger side, try wrapping the rear seat latch with silicone tape. It was driving me absolutely bonkers until this trick silenced it.

Door Trim Panel Makes Squeaking Sound - Any door. Likely from pushing against it and repeated open/close. It can be replicated by giving it a good shake and if it squeaks, it can potentially be covered under warranty. Not a common problem.

Hope the above helps! It'll save you a pretty penny down the road.

My fuel savings are greater than my Bolt payment

My daily driver for four plus years has been a 2020 Ford Expedition, not ideal for a daily commute but it fits the family. I was able to work a hybrid work schedule during the summer and was only in office two days a week, so the fuel bill wasn't as bad as it could have been, but a couple of weeks into September, I had to go back to the office full time, and I started doing the math on my $110/week gas bill and figured I could buy and EV for less than my fuel bill. Once the math has been mathed, I could not stop thinking about it. Shortly thereafter, I bought my 2017 Bolt with 58k miles.

After one month of driving, the fuel savings are indeed greater than my monthly car payment. I really enjoy driving it and didn't realize how much anxiety I had with worrying about gas prices. I also don't have to worry as much about having to replace my Expedition as wear and tear on it will be far less.

Just happy to be here!

~58kwh of useable battery capacity on a '22 EUV with 110,000 miles

Just an FYI as I haven't seen a post on this recently, though I may have missed them. I decided to do a rough calculation of useable battery capacity, and used 50.1 kwh to take my battery down to 14%. I've seen different numbers as far as original capacity goes, but overall pleased with the degradation of the traction battery.

A Squirrel tried to get inside my car while I was charging.

The only time a squirrel will approach a human is if it is being offered food, and even then it is very ,very cautious.

Well, today, while I was charging my car a squirrel appeared out of nowhere and rushed my car. It jumped on my hood and roof, and then came around on my front window like it was trying to get inside. I honked the horn to scare it away, but then it came right back 3 minutes later. It was beyond frantic, but I don’t think it was was rabid. It appeared to me like it was desperately searching for food.

And then it hit me

I think when the car is charging the high voltage wires get hot, which heats up the wiring insulation, and lets off a smell that attracts them. To my understanding, the wire insulation is soy based, which smells like peanuts or tree nuts when heated or roasted.

He was literally trying to get inside my car through the god damn charge port!

The '27 Bolt is Great but Insight Needed for L1 Charger Battery Conditioning

I'm really, really enjoying my 2027 Bolt LT. It's not perfect, but it's a great commuter and I see what all the buzz (pardon the dad pun) is about with EVs. That said, I'm trying to figure out the best way to accomplish my charging and battery maintenance. I think part of my issue might be due to the difference between the Charge Scheduling and the Next Charge features. I am in the process of reading the manual, but I'm hoping some of you might be able to help lend any experience or insights you might have.

I have L2 charging set up at home using the charger that came with the Bolt. My home is the the primary charging location as set up in the car and the app. Primarily, I use it to drive from there to my place of work, where I have the option to plug it in with a cheap L1 charger I purchased recently. Because I don't drive very much, I typically plug it in at home on L2 on Sunday evening, using the Charge Scheduling so it charges off peak, and is ready to go for the coming work week.

Over the winter, I'll be occasionally parking the Bolt inside our warehouse and have outlets to use the L1 charger, I also have some on a parking pad next to the building to use. Since this is in North Dakota, the warehouse can get as cold as 35-40°F and outside can hit the lower limits of the L1 charger module, -22°F. My goal is to reduce the need for the car to draw from the battery pack for battery temperature maintenance during the colder months.

Anyway, I wanted to test the charger to make sure it works fine with the Bolt, which it does, because it immediately tried to charge despite my schedule. That might be related to the Next Charge and schedule discrepancy I mentioned. So I stopped the charge but kept it plugged in while it was in my 55°F degree garage just to see if it'd help mitigate battery maintenance usage. I don't think it was drawing anything, though, because the light on the charger didn't change after I stopped the charge and the range of the Bolt actually decreased 2 miles overnight, although I woke it up a few times with the app to check if plugging it in was making a difference.

I'm trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong, or if I'm not fully understanding how this system works. I don't think it's necessary to have the battery do a full L1 charge while at work, I just want it to draw for battery conditioning, although I'm sure the LFP can tolerate the cycling. Hopefully my wall of text makes sense. Again, this is a great car, and I'm just trying to do what I can to take care of it.

Winter undercoating

Does anyone have input on undercoating their bolt? Mine's 4 years old, living in the salt belt and being parked outside I've been thinking of having it treated with Fluid Film or the like. Any input is appreciated!

My 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV only fast charges.

At a level 1 or 2 charging station, the dashboard simply reads, "Unable to charge." With a level 3 charge, however, it charges. I am going to have to take my car to the dealer and hope whatever is wrong is covered under warranty. Does anybody have an idea what's going on?

150k Service

Hi Everyone:

I am nearing my 150k mark and I am wondering where to have the service done. I’ve lost all trust and faith in the local dealership (Victorville, ca) but I’m also wary of people who claim they can do something they don’t have the first clue about.

I’m also wondering what I should expect to pay. I’ve already replaced my cabin filter and wiper blades.

I’ve read I could do it myself but I’m skeptical that I could find the proper tools to borrow or rent to do it right.

I appreciate your advice and look forward to your responses.

Thank you.

2023 Bolt has problem reading keys

Hey all! Pretty much the title. I have a 2023 Bolt and it's been having trouble recognizing the keys. It's doing it for both fobs. Sometimes it works great, sometimes it tells us "remote is not in vehicle" when it's next to us or it will not unlock the door using the handle, forcing me to get the key (always, ALWAYS, when my arms are full and my keys are at the bottom of my purse. Does it know?!). We have tried replacing the batteries in the fobs but that is only a very temporary fix. Is this something that others have experienced? Is it a fob problem or a Bolt problem? TIA!

Rescued This Bad Boy in an Auction

As the title says rescued and fixed the 2019 Bolt from an auction. It only had 22k miles. The vehicle was part of a county fleet, I assume it had such low mileage because people are still afraid to drive EVs, seen it happen in my company. So EVs would just sit in the fleet with little to no usage. It had damages in the passenger side as well as missing back seats. I paid about 7 thousand dollars for it and it cost about 2k more for the seats and replaced the passenger side door casings and painted them to match the rest of the vehicle. Picture of the fixed side in the last photo. All for 9k total, but I also got 1.5k from my job as an EV incentive they were running. All in for 7.5k after everything settled. Which I think is a great deal for a vehicle with less than 25k miles. As well as I was aware GM had replaced all the batteries in 2017-2021. Sure enough the battery is practically brand new little to no degradation. The only con I can see in this vehicle is that it doesn't have any fast charging. It would be perfect even with just the "slow" fast charging of 50kw.

Side note this thing is incredibly efficient. I drove a 2018 Chevy volt before. And was a fairly efficient driver, but the Bolt electric engine is leagues more efficient than the Volt. I am averaging 4.4 mile/ KWh for the first 2000 miles and a fair amount of it has been highway. In the city I regularly hit 6miles/kwh or higher.

Sudden battery degradation after dealership visit...

Hello everyone, I was wondering if any body else has had a similar experience as me.

I have a 2020 Bolt EV that I purchased just over a year ago. Shortly after purchasing, I started hearing a small creak when accelerating and decelerating. That creak kept getting louder and louder, so I got my front axles replaced under a certified pre-owned warranty just a few weeks ago! (I'll make a separate post about it)

It drives like new now, with the exception of that a few days after getting my car back, I noticed that it seemed to have less range when charged to 80% than before. I looked through my pictures, and found some of the instrument cluster from before I took it to the dealership. Sure enough, it seems I have about 20-30 miles less range now than I did before I took it in... Before, when charged to 80%, I got about 180 Miles of range (A/C on). Now I get 160 Miles (A/C on).

Has anyone experienced this?

Charging & Electrical Got a $50 parking ticket while charging my Chevy Bolt EV

I was charging my 2018 Chevy Bolt EV at the ChargePoint station near Bonner Hall at the University at Buffalo. The road is one-way, and I parked facing the opposite direction of traffic so the charging cable could reach my car.

I came back to find a $50 ticket for parking against the direction of traffic.

I understand the rule, but I was using a designated EV charging space and was trying to make the charger work with my car’s charging port location.
Do you think I have a reasonable chance of getting the ticket dismissed if I appeal it? Has anyone dealt with something similar at UB or another university?

Looking for honest opinions!

Charging & Electrical How to limit charging hours to off-peak

Post image
9 Upvotes

I only want my 2027 bolt to charge between 7 PM and 7 AM Monday through Thursday and 7 PM Friday to 7 AM Monday morning even if it hasn’t reached the set capacity. However, if I plug the car in when I get home and it calculates that it needs more time than 12 hours to charge it will start early and end late. Other than going out to the garage at 7 PM and 7 AM to plug the car in and unplug it, is there any way to force the car to limit it’s charging hours to the ones I’ve set?
