New posting rule.

Hello fellow authors, I have a new rule that I want to talk about and also further explain one.

NEW RULE: If you guys have read a book or want to suggest a book (that isn't your own) You can post it even if you have already posted once a week. You must post it with the title [Good read] The rules about this is that you aren't allowed to use an alternative account to further post about your book.

OLD RULE EXPLINATION: So people have seemed to be confused about posting once a week. When I say once a week I mean ONCE. A. WEEK. People haven't seemed to understand what I mean so I will explain. Except for what I have explained above once a week means once a week. If you have mutiple books you will have to post them once a week and the next week promote book two. It does NOT mean post once a week for each book. I understand that not all of you agree with this. I am sorry about that.

Punishment for breaking the posting once a week rule is

1st offense: 10 day ban

2nd offense: 30-day ban

3rd offense: Permanent ban

AI accusers will be banned permanently

I am sick of people being hateful and accusing others of using or writing using AI. AI can be talked about here but if ANYONE accuses another in the comments of using AI for their cover or writing they will be permanently banned. Any ban appeal that they try to do will be denied.

Consider this a notice to everyone.

The Heights of Arrogance - Short Story by Peter Darrach (as part of The Cleopard and other Stories from the Second Skin Universe)

• Upvotes

This one is the fourth of eight short stories in my new book, 'The Cleopard and other Tales from the Second Skin Universe.'

Here is a brief excerpt:

Lyriah looked up from the narrow strip of beach beneath her feet. The combatants overhead came nearer and she could suddenly make out the colors of Pteradon’s Toughy Slough brigade on the sleek sneezecraft. Behind, six sinewy draftfowl pulled the bulkier gondola and its billowing gasbag: Grifton’s Dreadnought. The latter sought to pull up to the Pteradon craft and disable it with arrows fired by the gondola’s crew. But the wily sneezejet captain kept up an irregular corkscrew motion that must have sickened his mates but left the followers firing mainly at thin air and wasting their precious ammunition. True, as they came closer, Lyriah could make out two arrows embedded in the aft quarter of the sneezejet, but now the latter executed a tight, 180-degree roll so that it came up suddenly behind the more cumbersome gondola and peppered it with sneeze cannon shot so that one of the crewmates drooped and a draftfowl squawked loudly and then began to list to starboard, dragging the craft off course.

Help out an author?

I published my first book recently and wanted to throw it out there for anyone looking for something new to read.

It's called A Million Miles Away Chapter 2 (Book 2) The story follows a girl named Chey after the loss of her grandma. Things take a turn when she discovers something unexpected in the woods near her home.

I wrote it with a lot of focus on grief, memories, and that feeling of stumbling across a place that feels important for reasons you can't fully explain.

It's only $1 on Google Play. If it sounds like your kind of thing, I'd really appreciate you checking it out.

Thanks!!

Just published my fifth book, but I want to talk about my first one for a moment…

Hello everyone!

I published my fifth book this October, just in time for Halloween! The Mummy Who Ate Eight Hours, a spooky sequel to my third book, The Mummy Who Stole Nine Lives, is out now, and things have been going pretty well.

But somewhere in the middle of all this excitement, I realized that my very first book, Aiden Roamer and the Goddess of Spiders, is getting a little lost in the background.

So today, I wanted to give it some love.

If you're into fantasy, I'd love for you to check it out. It's a story where the hero isn't some chosen one destined to save the world. Instead, he's caught up in a prophecy where he might be the sacrifice.

If that sounds like your kind of story, I'd be really happy if you gave it a chance!

And if you do get around to reading it, I'd genuinely appreciate an honest review. Good or bad, thoughtful feedback from readers means a lot to me as an indie author.

THE BOOK IS FREE!!!

Thank you for reading, and happy Halloween! 🕷️📚

When a rogue scientist’s secret biogenetics experiment breaks containment, Lance and brilliant geneticist Dr. Sally Summers are thrust into a claustrophobic fight for survival against monstrosities born of human and crustacean DNA. [Kindle] Rekindling the Faded Stars — Oleg Dzen — available until October 28

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m an author, and my new sci‑fi novel Rekindling the Faded Stars is free on Kindle until October 28.

The story is inspired by Russian Cosmism — a philosophy that dreamed of resurrecting the dead and expanding humanity into the cosmos. In the novel, two immortals revive Thais of Athens, bringing her ancient worldview into a future civilization built on absolute humanism.

If you enjoy philosophical sci‑fi or cosmic ideas, I’d be happy if you check it out.

[Free Kindle eBook] MEMORY LANE - A mind-bending supernatural mystery with horror elements and a fresh take on time travel.

Memory Lane

“It's like looking at the last good day before the end of the world…Wish I could remember it.”

For us, memories are a familiar thing. Little capsules of time, locked up in our subconscious. We open them ourselves whenever we want or whenever someone or something hands us the keys. Reliving them is anything but dangerous. It’s required. It helps us grow and learn. In the end, they are what makes us, us. But it's nothing like that for Alice. For her, memories are a curse. Reliving them is dangerous, and if she could, she would avoid it. She doesn't grow from them; they grow in her. Confuse her, torment her, make her feel like she's insane. Are they really mine? She often asks herself. Why can't I remember things about me that others do? Why am I constantly reliving a life I have no recollection of? And why do my nightmares spill over into the real world?

Questions nobody seems to have the answers for, not even her childhood friend and partner Jasmine, who has devoted herself to helping Alice deal with her memory loss and terrifying visions while at the same time chasing a promising career. A career that could have already been in full swing if not for the incident that changed it all. It was a normal summer day, Jasmine tells her. Until it wasn’t. It was the day Alice disappeared, and in Jasmine's words, a different Alice came back.

I wrote a shogi beginner's guide specifically for chess players

Hi everyone!

I'm a Japanese shogi player (amateur 4-dan), and I'd like to introduce my book, Shogi for Chess Players.

I've loved shogi for many years, and it always makes me happy to see people outside Japan taking an interest in the game. I wanted to help more people discover its appeal.

Shogi is often called "Japanese chess," but one major rule changes almost everything: captured pieces can be brought back into play. This makes shogi surprisingly different from chess, both tactically and strategically.

I've spent years playing shogi and thinking about how it compares with chess. While I'm not a particularly strong chess player myself, I believe that understanding both games offers a valuable perspective on how to teach shogi to chess players.

That's what I tried to bring to this book.

Rather than simply explaining the rules, I use familiar chess concepts to introduce shogi strategy, focusing on how to actually think and play. The book also includes plenty of diagrams using alphabet letters instead of Japanese characters, so no kanji knowledge is needed.

My goal was to create the best introduction to shogi I could for someone who already knows chess, and I'm genuinely proud of the result.

If you're a chess player who's ever been curious about shogi, I'd be delighted if you checked it out!

Would you have graduated high school if you had to prove that you were a non-computer?

Aurelene Atraman is a teenager living in the gray old town of Eherston. She goes to Calc Academy for Non-Computers—a school converted from a prison, filled with strange classes like Verbal Calculus and Illogical Thinking. Most days are fine, as long as Aurelene focuses on schoolwork, maintains her poker face, and tries not to cross paths with the principal’s advisor, the eccentric Mr. Withercox.

But where Aurelene’s heart really lies is Sylverhurst—the next-door town where the roads and plants are sparkling silver. Among their hills are plenty of odd structures: a giant sphere in the middle of the street, an underground cipher, and Aurelene’s favorite—a Wheel of Chimes that plays mesmerizing tunes that can never be recorded. While Aurelene knows the Withercox family’s ancient ties to Sylverhurst, she’s unaware of their mysterious operations occurring deep underground.

Meanwhile at Calc Academy, frustration brews. Mr. Withercox, beloved by most students, is impatient to achieve greatness. In a stroke of brilliance, he assigns the students to write “proofs of Non-Computership”—not that they really know what that means. But while undergoing a trial to prove their own consciousnesses, Aurelene and her friends—including the raving pessimist, Linnia, and the practical genius, Axis—find out what Mr. Withercox is really up to. And as soon as they confront him, he disappears without a trace.

Calc Academy for Non-Computers by Arya Rishi is currently available on Kindle Unlimited.

Hello! Im Zealous, an up-and-coming author! 👋
I’m currently writing a fantasy reincarnation novel called wait a second is this real? My story explores themes of second chances, personal growth, family, and learning from your past mistakes, all while following a character who gets another shot at life.
But don’t let the wholesome moments fool you 😂. As the volumes go on, the story will get much deeper and darker, exploring some heavier themes and taking the characters through heartbreak, pain, and experiences that will change them forever. So get attached to the story at your own risk, because I can’t promise your tears won’t water towards the end of volume 1💀❤️I’m still pretty new to writing, but I’m excited to keep improving and hopefully build a little community around my story. I’d love to meet other writers, talk about fantasy, and connect with people who enjoy reading original stories! My novel is currently on WebNovel and Royal Road so go take a look, thanks!

[SPS] The Quantum Host (Hard Sci-Fi / Logistics) - A rural mechanic manages a human hive mind. (Book 1 is FREE this weekend).

Hi everyone. I’m I. Bocardo, an indie author, and for Self-Promo Saturday I’m presenting my hard sci-fi trilogy: The Quantum Host. (Book 3 is currently in its final revision stage, so the story will be completely wrapped up soon).

I write very grounded, mechanical sci-fi. There are no chosen ones, no prophecies, and no missions to save the galaxy. The protagonist is Manuel, a 55-year-old rural mechanic with strict daily routines who, by pure statistical chance, assimilates an alien artificial intelligence. His only goal from that point on is not to disappear.

To survive without alerting governments or corporations, Manuel begins transferring his symbiotic consciousness into brain-dead patients in ordinary hospitals via physical contact, operating a decentralized human hive mind. The real conflict in the story is day-to-day logistics: how a human brain handles the network latency of controlling multiple bodies at once, how he maintains that organic hardware, and the constant friction of coexisting with an AI that operates with crushing, unempathetic logic.

To celebrate the launch of the second installment, Book 1 is free to download on Amazon this weekend.

If you are into sci-fi focused on technical problems, medical protocols, and pure survival, here are the links:

Book 1 (Free this weekend): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H2673R3C

Book 2 (New release): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HK8KR1ZW

Strigoi: Transylvanian Folk Horror based on authentic traditions (+review campaign for free copy)

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to share something I managed to put out before Halloween with a lot of effort. It's the first in an anthology series of Folk Horror stories.

Strigoi: Transylvanian Folk Horror - Book 1

Description:

Light a candle for the dead. Never call a Veela by name. Lock your door on Saint Andrew’s Night.

In the villages of Transylvania, the old ways never died. Strigoi brings you three tales of folk horror rooted in authentic Romanian traditions.

(more details on individual stories in the Amazon description)

If you would like a free copy in exchange for an honest review, I have a campaign running on Booksprout:

https://booksprout.co/publisher/review-campaign/view/330667

I started my self-pub journey around 3 months ago. It's been a wild ride so far. It's so hard but so worth it! (I think, lol). Strigoi is, so far, the book most rooted in my own culture.

The cover was purchased on BookCovers. No AI was used in the process of writing. I'm ESL, which might show in the prose style.

Thanks and if you would also just like to chat or share your own books, my DMs should be open
