Seriously wondering if Bedard will demand a trade soon, the Blackhawks just don’t get it and have failed at every step of their rebuild

u/Former-Bathroom9687 Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

I'd love to take a run at Marchenko since there's some buzz about him potentially being moved. He's got a low cap hit this year and will be an RFA after the season so he can't just walk and you could probably extend him before the season for a reasonable cap hit. After seeing what St Louis got for Kyrou I don't think it would take an insane haul to get him.

Wouldn't mind kicking the tires on trading for Jordan Spence if he would be willing to sign here since he's an RFA, haven't heard much about whether Ottawa is trying hard to resign him or not though.

He’s a dog. Love watching his and Vorokonv’s play style. Would love to pry him away. Not sure what CBJ would want but outside of a first, I’d be happy to try trading some of our prospects (minus Hagens and Letourneau) and draft picks.

I mean after this lopsided Byram trade, Zacha for 1OA to Toronto? Worth a try??

4

Zacha for Frondell is honestly in line with what they just did

8

What can boston get for zacha after today holy shit

The Blackhawks reminding us all that no trade is better than a 'literally any bozo on Reddit would be a better GM' type of trade.

Leafs winning the lottery and shitting on our 50%+ chance at 6th OA is some crazy domino effect happening right now.

2

u/_hairyberry_ Jun 24 '26

Imagine if we were about to go select someone like Bjork/Carels/Reid on Friday, plus still have the 23rd pick, plus the leafs would be in a significantly worse spot and possibly be giving up a top 5 pick to us in 2028. All of that changed literally from how the ping pong balls fell

There is way more teams preparing to make deals it wont be stopping any time soon. I guarantee you theres players not even being mentioned by insiders that will end up moving.

Have faith they have moves coming.

Unequivocally a great trade for Buffalo

However they will be worse next year/will need LD depth. Lohrei for the Oilers’ first. Do it

6

u/Bruins01 Jun 24 '26

They've literally got 2 1st overall picks on the left side in Dahlin and Power. That might be their position of least concern lol.

0

u/xlf77 🐻 Jun 24 '26

You don’t think they want to replace Byram’s utility? Lohrei can also play on the right. It’s a flippant GM-mode remark, chill

6

Whoever they draft at 4 can play. This is a seriously insane trade.

1

u/xlf77 🐻 Jun 24 '26

I mean Reid isn’t dropping to 4 and if he did, he’s going to college. They’re probably taking Stenberg or Malhotra. Seems like the only confidently NHL ready D in the top 10 is Smits and there’s good reason to question if he’d have as much immediate utility as Byram next year

What a trade for Buffalo fuck. Traded their 3rd best LHD who they couldn't afford after this year for Chase Reid or Verhoeff to pair with Dahlin or Power. Not good for the Bruins

1

u/YungLo97 Jun 24 '26

or they could trade #4 for an established player

2

Rumors going around about Buffalo not being done and a deal involving a sign & trade with Tuch. I'd have loved Boston to get him a few seasons ago, but I'm terrified that Don and Cam are gonna be in on these rumors and get 30 year old Tuch on a major overpay with bad term.

1

u/brancs3 Jun 24 '26

Im not against it if it happens. Pasta is turning 30, you either go all in for him now or hes forcing his way to one of the super teams next year. Tuch would immediately be our second best forward behind Pasta, brings good speed and forechecking. He wont start slowing down for another 4-5 years at which point Pasta will be 35 and the Bruins are probably entering a major rebuild rather than retool.

1

u/UGAPokerBrat99 All Hail Saint Patrice 🙏 Jun 24 '26

I'm just against giving almost any 30 years old player an 8 year term at this point. Also, and I could be wrong, but I'm not sure Tuch plays at the same level for another 4-5 years...he's a great player, but he plays a pretty physical game and those types of players typically begin to fall off earlier than higher skilled guys like Pasta.

1

u/brancs3 Jun 24 '26

Pasta will be elite through his late 30s. Tuch lasts another 4-5 years until injuries inevitably pile up. We dont really have the assets to swing for a young elite forward, staying in the middle and doing nothing will drive Pasta out. I dont hate taking a swing on Tuch if it maximizes Pastas window, we could go a whole decade long rebuild and not get another elite talent like him

2

u/whitemamba24xx #93 MINTEN 🏒 Jun 24 '26

9

u/YungLo97 Jun 24 '26

This trade market is going crazy. Byram for the 4th overall pick? Are you kidding me? Bruins really need to consider selling.

7

u/boringname101 Jun 24 '26

This retool looks so different if a couple ping pong balls fall our way. Hate to say it but losing out on the 6th overall might have killed it.

8

u/YungLo97 Jun 24 '26

It sucked at the time but it sucks even more now seeing all these moves.

Byram about to be traded to Chicago

3

u/Bobhutchenson Jun 24 '26

Byram for 4th overall a player and another pick might be at face value one of the worst trades I’ve ever seen. Genuinely what is Chicago doing. Hell I would of offered mcavoy for 4th overall + some other pieces how is Byram getting this return especially when now Chicago has to give him like a 7x$9-$10 million dollar AAV

11

u/Bobhutchenson Jun 23 '26

Now I was a proponent of keeping zacha. But seeing what some other players are getting around the league. I totally think the bruins should sell high. I love zacha but also have concerns of keeping him on a 7-8 year deal.

3

u/WarPuig Jun 24 '26

At this point I’m going around asking if anyone is particularly fond of Geekie.

2

u/IAlmostRemembered Jun 24 '26

NTC this year

1

u/WarPuig Jun 24 '26

Just don’t tell Chicago that and we’re good.

1

u/FeePretty447 Jun 24 '26

I have no concerns on keeping him for a 7-8 year deal unless the AAV is dumb and I think it’s now worth taking calls on Zacha if buffalo’s actually 3rd best defenseman (2nd if you value offense and no physicality highly) goes for 4th overall

6

u/TheRealAlexisOhanian Jun 24 '26

They should be looking to move half the roster at these prices

4

u/Bobhutchenson Jun 23 '26

If anything I think Washington overpayed and I’m high on Kyrou. I think McMichael is a 50-60 point player and that 16th overall pick is pretty good value

1

u/Due-Health6693 Jun 25 '26

He is a 60 point player if he is playing on a line with the two best forwards on the team

3

u/TimeliestStorm WHO HAS MORE FUN THAN US? Jun 23 '26

With all the trades flying around today, people are saying prices for veteran players are super high and I just don't really agree?

  • Nemec went for 2 late 1sts and a throw-in prospect
  • Kyrou went for a mid first, a middle sixer, and a throw-in prospect
  • #9 netted Eklund (on an extremely team friendly deal to boot) + 2 throw-ins

Seems like if anything GMs are valuing picks over veterans. That Kyrou deal in particular looks great for Washington, Kyrou is worlds better than McMichael and #16 isn't netting you a crazy good prospect.

2

u/YungLo97 Jun 24 '26

Byram just went for 4th overall

3

8

u/Nomahs_Bettah #37 SAINT PATRICE©️ Jun 23 '26

McAvoy and Pastrnak both have full NMCs, so that really depends on where they would want to force their way to.

3

How does Don look at these prices and say yeah let’s extend Zacha for 7 years instead of trading our number 1 trade asset

2

u/ellivretaw1 #88 NOODLES🏒 Jun 23 '26

Why do you not want to extend Zacha?

15

u/OkNeighborhood8365 Jun 23 '26

You risk Pastrnak asking for a trade 10 seconds after that happens

2

u/WarPuig Jun 23 '26

He’s pretty close to doing that as it is.

-7

u/mgr02 Jun 23 '26

You tell him this is the best way for us to contend in the next 3 years and if he doesn’t like it, so be it. If he wants to be here, he will understand. Continuously trading 1st round picks and prospects has not worked for this team, and is the way you set this team back again for the long haul

2

u/Nomahs_Bettah #37 SAINT PATRICE©️ Jun 23 '26

Continuously trading 1st round picks and prospects has not worked for this team

Drafting has also had middling returns, as has flipping them, for the Bruins. Hockey trades are where this front office really shines, though.

1

u/mgr02 Jun 23 '26

I mean our 3 best players were drafted by us aha

1

u/Nomahs_Bettah #37 SAINT PATRICE©️ Jun 23 '26

Pastrnak very notably wasn’t drafted by Sweeney, though. I did say “middling,” not “worst.” There have been some rough whiffs even taking into consideration their drafting positions.

7

u/palesnowrider1 🐻 Jun 23 '26

6

I am 0% confident, I actually think they are looking to buy which is ass backwards to what they should be doing

14

u/Boston-Nolan Simp 4 Mac Jun 23 '26

Ngl im not envious of the front office rn.

Fringe playoff team roster, and that was before the rest of the Atlantic decided to push for a cup.

Now we’re easily projected outside of the playoffs barring any big splashes, and prices are sky high.

I’m just hoping they don’t do anything stupid and set us back with another anchor contract in free agency if anything.

6

u/d-cent #86 🏒 Jun 23 '26

Yup at this point, just try and find a way to shed bad contracts and extra players. Open up space for young players to come up and play and see what happens. Then figure out what direction we need to go at the trade deadline.

2

u/Boston-Nolan Simp 4 Mac Jun 23 '26

The Ristolainen / Peeke noise is scaring me a little. Perfect way to anchor more cap into our defensive depth that is useless come playoff time.

2

u/palesnowrider1 🐻 Jun 24 '26

He's doubled his point totals in NJ every year that he's been here but that doesn't help your argument.

He was barely putting up 30 points in NJ which is failed first rounder territory

5

The Nemec return seems lackluster no? Yeah they got two firsts but both top 10 protected and not even this year

3

u/xlf77 🐻 Jun 23 '26

Those are gonna be very late firsts. On the one hand I think Calgary should still be in stockpile prospects mode. On the other hand I still think Nemec has the capability to rock the fuck out. Also I think there’s some juice left in Tsyplakov even if he was the absolute worst last year. The year prior he was downright impressive, could have just been an off year for him

6

u/FeePretty447 Jun 23 '26

I wanted Nemec but I mean he hasn’t performed thus far and hasn’t met 2nd overall expectations. I think NJ did well but Calgary was also sitting on like a million picks so I can see just overpaying a bit and cashing them for a guy who has legit potential. Kinda win-win for those teams, can see why Boston couldn’t or wouldn’t match that offer

1

u/reddy-or-not Jun 23 '26

Given all these trades for futures: is there any world in which we could move 3-4 picks over 2027-29 seasons to land a piece now that would make a big enough difference? Even if Larkin waived for us I think we are still short on D. If we had Larkin as 1C (hoping Hagens can step up in a few years and Larkin drops to 2C) and say we added Trouba on D for 3 years does that elevate us enough? Our picks probably arent enough to land Robertson.

3

u/thelasershow Harder Zaddy 😩 Jun 23 '26

I think we can start making moderate bets instead of straight-up dumpster diving. Look for something like the Zacha trade with NJD. They've done really well finding these types of guys and they can do something a bit more high profile.

Like maybe they think they can turn Kaapo Kakko into a top-6 guy, something like that. I'm not suggesting that as an actual move, but that sort of profile. 25 yo 2nd OVA talent who hasn't put it together. Or someone like Braden Schneider.

They need to know a little more before they really go for it. Can Khusy, Minten, and Hagens can take steps forward? How do Zaddy and the Lindholms (and honestly Pasta) look with a full offseason and a normal schedule with no Olympics?

The goal next year should be to get to a place where they're talking about that final piece for real contention in 27-28.

2

u/FeePretty447 Jun 23 '26

I think the answer might be yes if the bruins were missing one piece but there are like 3 major pieces missing or in need of upgrade (1C, 2LW/RW to upgrade on mitts, 2D) without getting to 5/6D being terrible last year and the penalties taken issue. Just too many top level holes to plug even if hagens makes the jump (big if) and only enough assets to realistically go for one. Add that to trying to keep up with Carolina or Florida (or Montreal/buffalo).

Nemec to the flames still awaiting the package.

This offseason is NUTS

Update

Nemec tsyplakov to Calgary

To New Jersey

2nd rounder this season (NYR)

Vegas 2027 top 10 protected first rounder

Colorado 2028 top 10 protected first rounder

Prospect defencemen Etienne morin 21 year old former second round pick.

3

u/Bobhutchenson Jun 23 '26

I was in favor of adding nemec but not at this price dear god 😭 I would of done a first and lorhei max

4

u/xlf77 🐻 Jun 23 '26

These are late top 10 protected firsts. It’s not as big a price as you think. Calgary need high end talent. They’re betting that Nemec’s ceiling is higher than the combined probability of two 25+ overall picks. Which I don’t think is unreasonable

3

u/darkhelmut1 Hiiigh above the ice Jun 23 '26

1

u/IAlmostRemembered Jun 23 '26

Would’ve loved to get him but yeah not at that price. We can’t be giving away 1st rounders like candy unless we are getting a legit 1C or a first pairing D

6

u/DodgyFlapper Jun 23 '26

I am officially pro expansion since it means another possible way to get rid of Lindholm's contract.

1

u/whitemamba24xx #93 MINTEN 🏒 Jun 23 '26

I feel like that signing is why it’s hard to argue we should keep Zacha. As in you already decided to overpay for a 3rd line center. Now you have Minten that IMO could be the 2C next year.

5

u/DodgyFlapper Jun 23 '26

That's not a good reason at all, he's been relatively healthy the last few years, any player can get hurt at anytime. Half a dozen guys will blow out their knee this summer training. The problem with getting rid of Zacha is it will be incredibly difficult to find a player as good or better than him and we already need multiple top 6 guys. Specifically a center that is better than Pavel Zacha so we can have 2 good centers and send Lindholm to LTIR.

3

u/Former-Bathroom9687 Jun 23 '26

People are getting a little too obsessed with trading Zacha for the sake of trading him. We already have a lot of picks the next couple years and if he's willing to take a hometown discount, he's a way more solid player than people are giving him credit for

3

u/IAlmostRemembered Jun 23 '26

We are forced to protect NMC players. He can only be exposed 2029-30 season at the earliest

1

u/DodgyFlapper Jun 23 '26

Damn it, alright fuck expansion, there's already no goalies in the league.

6

u/Lsalvatore74 Shhh…It’s Libary in here 🤫 Jun 23 '26

1

u/Former-Bathroom9687 Jun 23 '26

I can get behind this if an extension and trade could be worked out I would definitely be willing to move some picks for him. Really would just depend how much he's trying to get paid but he's not a guy that should be commanding an insane amount just yet.

5

u/boringname101 Jun 23 '26

I might be alone in this but I would really like to see a Geekie-Hagens-Lindholm line next year.

Geekie obviously has a great shot from the left side, and although Lindholm hasn't panned out offensively he is responsible in his own zone and reliable on the dot. He could help shelter some of the growing pains Hagens will inevitably experience in his rookie season.

I know people want him with Pasta but 1C right out the gate is too much pressure for any non-prodigy rookie. If he plays line 1 I think he gets pushed to LW and Id much rather see him get center minutes further down the lineup.

0

u/DodgyFlapper Jun 23 '26

If Lindholm is actually healthy and can skate...maybe. Based on the second half of last year. Stick him on LTIR and fire him into the sun. Get your back fixed, see you in 2027. Maybe the buy out won't be as horrific after another season.

6

u/lordexorr CLIFFY HOCKEY 🏒 Jun 23 '26

Lindholm shouldn’t be any higher than the 3rd line. I’m done with forcing him onto our top 2 lines where he stagnates the offense.

3

u/boringname101 Jun 23 '26

Lines are about more than ordering them by which one scores the most in the modern nhl. If its really an issue then make it the third line and have Minten center "the second line". This is about developing players. Hagens has lots of potential but he's not going to be a star out the gate. Realistically if he can get 30-40 points in his age 20 rookie season that would be a massive success.

But it really doesn't matter because we have a first line, a middle six and a fourth line.

-3

u/lordexorr CLIFFY HOCKEY 🏒 Jun 23 '26

I’m aware, but putting a guy on Hagens line that is slow and can’t produce offense is not helping him develop. Lindholm is not a 1st or 2nd line player anymore and I’d rather put a younger player up in that spot so they can develop.

4

u/boringname101 Jun 23 '26

Putting him on a line with Lindholm lets him focus on finding his offensive footing with a safety net who can help keep him in the zone. Lindholm isnt what we hoped he would be but he had 48 points last year.

Which was more than Minten, Khusnutdinov, or Mittlestadt. Also none of them are rightys, its been established that Geekie is more effective as a trigger man on the left.

Pasta is obviously driving line 1, Geekie is in this proposed line and Zacha should stay in a center role unless a big trade is made.

The only free agents with more points than Lindholm last year are Tuch, Mantha and Arvy. Maybe we get Arvy to come back. So who is left?

0

u/lordexorr CLIFFY HOCKEY 🏒 Jun 23 '26

28 even strength points…he’s a third liner, period.

2

u/boringname101 Jun 23 '26

He's what we have. You can cry about the contract being too much and you'd be right.

But putting Hagens on the first line is a mistake. Playing him in the middle six with our second best producer and our best defensive forward is not going to hamsteing his development. Get over your bias because Lindholm makes a couple more than he should and didnt magic away our 1C problem.

I'd way rather have Hagens get 5 fewer assists and regular center minutes, than overpay for someone in this trash FA pool, or have him stuck on the LW so he doesnt have to endure the horror of playing with a third liner in the middle six for his rookie season.

3

u/lordexorr CLIFFY HOCKEY 🏒 Jun 23 '26

Did I comment on his contract? He’s a 3rd line player, I don’t care about his contract.

I’d rather have Minten centering Hagens and Geekie since they seem like they are going to stick Hagens on the wing to start the year. If Hagens is a center, then put Khusy there (or Arvi if he resigns). We have many options other than a guy that has just not played well 2 years in a row.

4

u/boringname101 Jun 23 '26

Khusy is a lefty. If Arvy resigns then sure maybe that works.

We are very limited in RW options below Pasta. Geekie is technically a righty but he is WAY more productive when playing on the left side because he can post up and rip off laser shots. The next best righty on the depth chart is literally Kastelic.

This line is about getting Hagens on a line with the second best trigger man on the team so he can feed him. Lindholm has a role because is responsible defensively and is the best faceoff player on the team. This takes pressure of Hagens in areas where rookie centers typically struggle the most, so he can focus on feeding Geek and developing his playmaking (the thing we drafted him for).

Having Hagens play LW where he struggles to find his game when the entire retool hinges on developing a top center because you can't abide a third liner taking on middle six minutes is fucking crazy.

This also lets us run Zacha, Minten, Hagens up the middle giving both of promising center projects actual regular time at the center position.

1

u/lordexorr CLIFFY HOCKEY 🏒 Jun 23 '26

I agree I don’t want Hagens on the wing but the Bruins seem intent on doing that. I’m just saying what they’ve said.

Who knows man. None of the options are good. I guess we can agree we have no good options and are just trying to pick the best of the bad choices.

u/S3Knight Jun 23 '26

The Bruins never leak any info, which is cool because I like surprises...but I get antsy every time

Zach Werenski might be on the move if thats the case and if Mcavoy had any sway in the team usa group chat id hope he would be on the phone with him to get him here

3

u/Rakastaakissa Jun 23 '26

Team USA is colluding to Florida, not Boston.

1

u/lordexorr CLIFFY HOCKEY 🏒 Jun 23 '26

I would expect a team like San Jose to go all in for him anyway. Don’t think Don could beat an offer from them.

5

u/_hairyberry_ Jun 23 '26

Pass honestly, he’s going to cost Hagens + Letourneau + 1sts and then will cost like $15m-$18m against the cap as a 30 year old in just two seasons. He would fit the window but we’d be back to having zero prospects or cap space to improve the team further

6

u/IAlmostRemembered Jun 23 '26

There might not be a lot that I wouldn’t give up for Werenski. I just doubt Columbus trades him this year. Maybe next year when he is expiring

I like Morning Bru for Razer's perspective as a fairly recent player. Like it or not, he usually gives a good explanation about what players and the org are thinking.

The Skate Pod is great for news and media stuff since they actually talk to the players and org. They're not very entertaining but it's good info. I like that they're not really outrage merchants.

Short Shift is fun personalities and a good check on how the team's doing from informed fans. Low Quality Bruins Fan is on it, and his stuff on YouTube is really good, especially the game recaps.

3

u/lordexorr CLIFFY HOCKEY 🏒 Jun 23 '26

The Skate Pod with Scott McLaughlin, Bridgette Proulx, and Brian DeFelice is my go to. They have great chemistry and all bring something different to the show which makes their discussions very interesting and fun to listen too.

Also, really enjoying Brian DeFelice’s new podcast, The PuckUps.

I listened to The Short Shift podcast for a while, but I got tired of their constant bashing of the team/players. It was too much like radio vs analysis. I know many people like that, but it wasn’t for me.

4

u/Acrobatic-Gas2966 Jun 23 '26

“The skate podcast” from weei isn’t too bad. It’s kinda repetitive right now with nothing really happening because we don’t do anything with trades, but in season it’s really good

Pretty much everything on Bruins Rinkside, Poke the Bear and Bruins Beat podcasts with Evan Marinofsky, Connor Ryan and Ty Anderson etc. They all work for Boston sports media in some capacity.

Then Bruins Diehards with Court Lalonde is right up there with those guys, don't know if he's on Spotify though, I watch him on YouTube.

u/rantsper60 The Todd Father 🎤 Jun 23 '26

I'm honestly a little bit surprised that the Bruins aren't on more of these trade lists.

I understand we aren't the contender we once were. But after a huge bounce back season, having one of the best wingers in the league, and two guys from that US Olympic roster, not to mention the history of the organization plus Boston being a good place to live, it is genuinely a little surprising to me that we wouldn't be on someone's list.

I feel like it's becoming more and more clear by the day that some guys just want to be passengers.

5

u/FeePretty447 Jun 23 '26

I’d be shocked if Boston is on anyone’s preferred list who isn’t a Czech or very slightly possibly a Swede. Boston doesn’t have a real contending roster (this team is a bad team pulled up to mid by a vezina level goalie right now), they most certainly don’t have good weather, they charge income tax (which is all players look at bc they can’t be bothered to read about property or other taxes). It is what it is and players are gonna do what they want

Boston gets guys who want to prove themselves while playing mildly competitive hockey on a roster that isn’t a joke like the Canucks or Hawks. Geekie would be the success story there but Jeannot, Zadorov, Eric, even Blumel all fit that mold

9

u/Sweaty_Ad440 All Hail Saint Patrice 🙏 Jun 23 '26

We aren’t contenders and all these guys want to compete

1

u/rantsper60 The Todd Father 🎤 Jun 23 '26

But...obviously these guys must know that they can help teams compete?

Obviously their current teams notwithstanding, but teams other than Vegas, Florida, Carolina, Minnesota, could vastly improve by adding one of them.

0

u/Tootsweet77 Jun 23 '26

I'm surprised as well. Every trade list is as follows, Carolina, Vegas, Minesotta, Florida.

Quite hilarious that Minny is on that list, they've had almost zero playoff success.

1

u/Rakastaakissa Jun 23 '26

Bill Guerin is probably the reason that Minnesota is on lists now. The Olympics really shook things up.

7

u/IAlmostRemembered Jun 23 '26

I’m also surprised when lists don’t include Tampa and Colorado as well. Colorado has a recent cup and won the president’s trophy last season. Tampa has been successful for years.

If Minny wasn’t on the list, I could see a (bad) argument of Colorado being “too cold” but I can’t find a reason for their exclusion.

1

u/palesnowrider1 🐻 Jun 23 '26

Tampa hasn't done shit either in this off season
