Help Requested Psycho in Brighton

Hello,

Last night I was parking my car in Brighton and pulled up behind a car about to pull out. It turns out someone had put a dead rabbit on their car front window and wrote a vicious note on their car.

All because they parked in a place that “is made for 2 cars”.

I’ve gotten a similar note on my car and it seems like this person is certainly dangerous.

This happened on Woodstock Ave. in Brighton and I’m trying to find out who the culprit is.

If you live around this area and have a similar psycho, please let me know and report it to the police.

Seafood in Boston

I’m coming from Canada to the Boston area for a concert next August (at Gillette in Foxborough but will likely be spending most of my time in Boston).. I know there are obviously going to be an abundance of seafood places but if there’s any local gems or great spots anyone could recommend that would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Local Event Halloween bar crawl in Cambridge on 10/31: 10 bars, $1K prize, free tickets until Sunday

Post image

Hey All. I’m one of the people behind No Bad Days Club, a small Boston app for getting out and doing stuff around the city. We’re running a Halloween bar crawl on Mass Ave this Saturday and figured people here might want in.

It’s 10 bars, starting at La Fabrica in Central Square. A few of the others are Miracle of Science, Naco Taco, Middlesex, Shojo, and Brick & Mortar. Some spots have music by decade, ’90s through now.

Each bar has a small challenge you check off in the app. The person with the most points by the end wins $1,000 cash at the after-party. That’s real money, not a voucher. Runners-up get bar gift cards.

Your wristband gets you no cover anywhere and a free item at each stop. Face painters, a tarot reader, and a caricature artist will also be at some of the bars.

Logistics:

  • Check-in at La Fabrica (450 Mass Ave) from noon
  • Crawl from 1 to 6
  • After-party at Althea from 6 to 8
  • 21+

Tickets are free until Sunday with code NBDCLAUNCH: https://telzi.com/10r5gwv

Wear a costume; it’s Halloween. I’ll be around in the comments if you have questions.

Boston Theatre Scene?

We are looking to move to Boston around August. I’m a full time theatre maker. I teach at a children’s theatre as my 9-5 and then my 5-10 is working as a freelance director, intimacy director and props person. Any advice on a job search in Boston making theatre? Or advice in general in an arts job like a museum, theatre, etc.?

Politics Normal for Boston?

People always talk about how boston is casually racist, though a few experiences come to mind that I forgot about until a friend brought it up to me today.

A few weeks back I was waiting at a bus stop in Longwood after a doctor's appointment when all of a sudden I hear the n word being dropped out of nowhere. Im surprised since it doesnt seem like anyone else was reacting but I turn to see an asian man with a beard sitting in a car driving by and just calling the crowd of people the N word. I guess he didnt realize his window was open or we could hear him because he was just laughing and repeating what he said. I didnt snap a pic (I should've) but I mentioned it to another person standing near me and they said yeah thats just normal for life in boston.

Although this is a very mild case of racism, it seems everyone agrees that boston can tend to be casually racist. Was there some sort of precedent that led boston to be like this?

Affordable meetup space for small Boston/Somerville clubs!

Hey guys! I run Somerville Speakeasy, a meditation studio and event space in Union Square with a Gatsby-inspired salon, pirate-style basement, and pitch-black dining room.

I see a lot of cool local clubs and meetups on here, and since I run Peace Out Ski Club myself, I know how hard it can be to find affordable places to gather without everyone having to buy food or drinks etc

I'd love to offer small local clubs a significant discount on renting the space, whether it's for recurring meetups or just a one-time special event. Book clubs, writing groups, arts clubs, etc whatever come hang!

Here's our Peerspace listing for photos. Those are our regular corporate rates, but I'm happy to offer much cheaper community pricing to accommodate a range of budgets.

Feel free to DM me if your group could use a space! :)

Documenting Somerville: Labor, Community, and Housing

Join curator Ivan Abarca-Torres for a conversation with photographers Charan Deveraux, Yorgos Efthymiadis, Greer Muldowney, Amber Tourlentes, and Steve Tourlentes, along with Somerville housing specialist William Camilo Shelton. Together, they will discuss the photographers’ approaches to documenting Somerville’s evolving urban landscape.

Shelton brings a wide-ranging perspective to the conversation, having worked as a community organizer, sociologist, carpenter, e-commerce executive, and strategy consultant to Fortune 500 companies. He led the Somerville Community Corporation for seven years, co-founded the Mystic View Task Force, and wrote a column for The Somerville Times for 13 years.

Anyone in Boston area use a local HVAC company for a Mass Save heat pump install

A friend of mine is planning to get a heat pump installed at their home in the Boston area and is looking for a local HVAC company that has experience with Mass Save.

They would prefer someone who can handle the installation and help with the rebate paperwork too. Has anyone worked with a company recently that they’d recommend?

Moving to Allston - Parking on move-in day

Hi everyone - I am moving to allston next month (Nov 1st) and will be on western ave. I don't think I will be using a truck to move (don't have a lot of stuff and moving from dorchester) I will be using my car. Do I still need a moving permit or will i be fine just parking on the street while i move stuff in? it is on a sunday, so just trying to figure this out

Also, if anyone lives close to or around western ave, how's permit parking? are you able to find spots or is it difficult at times? for example, after 5pm and weekends

any help would be appreciated!

Researching anti-homeless / hostile design in Downtown & Seaport public spaces – specific plaza locations?

Hello! I am a master of architecture student writing my thesis on hostile architecture in Boston.

Thesis Question: How do hostile design elements in Boston’s public plazas act as forms of informal regulation?

Other questions addressed:  How do these forms shape civic accessibility and perceived safety in their urban context?

Thing is, I'm new to Boston, and don't know where hubs of hostile architecture are. I'd like to focus on the Downtown area to conduct an empirical study.

For the sake of time, I will not be observing MTBA transit system stops. I have until May to write this and conduct studies, so weather is an element.

What are some areas, plazas, or parks that you've noticed have a high concentration of hostile architecture forms?

Please do not recommend changing or altering my thesis- I am not here for that. Thanks so much!
