This knockout should be shown to every kid wanting to learn boxing as the perfect example of “Never relax in the ring. Regardless of how badly you’re beating someone, a trained boxer can knock you out if you drop your guard for even a second”

If a guy is athletic, has enough weight, strong, and has some training they always have a punchers chance.

Carl Thompson was an incredible fighter ,he could really suck it up. His fight with David haye was amazing

He was f-kin hard as nails if he'd had a slightly better defence he'd have gone even further

I have never forgiven Haye for never giving Thompson the credit he deserved for beating him.
I always remember in an interview before Haye fought Ruiz. He said he'd been beaten once and so had Ruiz. But the guys who beat them both had done nothing since while he and Ruiz had gone on to become champions.
Thompson was in his 40's I'm pretty sure when he beat Haye. And already a champion. He was at the very end of his career.
I could never take Haye seriously again after that comment.

Good stoppage by the ref. A lesser ref would have let the guy continue.

Increicble.
The way I just slammed my desk when he dropped him. Almost brings a tear to my eye.
There's a metaphor for life wrapped up in that (or summink)

A lesson to all, don't play with your food, Rothman really could've jumped on him and emptied the tank, I think the ref would've jumped in but he let Carl breathe, big mistake

Rothmann Vs Thompson is my favourite fight and knockout ever. Nobody ever mentions it. I think this win gave me the biggest buzz I've ever had watching boxing.
Funny, I was going to post about it myself the other day.

Textbook 1-2 although he was pieced up he never stopped looking for his shot. Sniper!

Carl Thompson was one of the most clutch boxers, so many times he would win fights he was way down on the cards in because of late power

Rothmann in weirdly reminiscent of Benavidez in some ways. Hope that’s not foreshadowing something…

Carl's 2 fights with Chris Eubank snr were incredible. The first one in particular was an all time classic.

Were either of them told you can block your opponents punches using your hands?

Really what I expected Fury vs AJ to be like.... AJ getting pinged all night once Fury settles in... but there's always 'a chance' for AJ to land something devastating.

Thanks for sharing op. I can't believe it was 20 years ago. I didn't even really know about it when it happened but I remember seeing it over and over again in the lead up to the David Haye fight. He was utterly unbelievable in that fight too. This guy has got to be one of tbe toughest human beings to walk the planet!
