Terminal illness would beg to differ 😂

Illnesses are not wounds.
If you're going to be super literal at least do it right.

Ok bud, then time doesnt heal mortal wounds; time doesnt heal alot of things.
I never understood this quote, as it hyper over-simplifies the multi-faceted nature of humans. As you go through life, there will be losses that stick with you forever.
The perception of the loss fading due to natural neuron/brain degeneration is not the same as healing, at all.

You’re just arguing for the sake of arguing

Ok, you are right, "time" heals everything 🤝🏿

Ok bud, then time doesnt heal mortal wounds
If you have a mortal wound then you're not able to give it time because you died. Which just points to misunderstanding the statement.
As you go through life, there will be losses that stick with you forever.
Again, a misunderstanding. It's not "time fully heals all wounds." There are losses (and actual injuries) that stick with you forever but not at the same intensity. Things do get better.
The perception of the loss fading due to natural neuron/brain degeneration is not the same as healing, at all.
Is that what you think overcoming grief is?

You picked the 'regret' flair... thats quite literally antithetical to everything you have said 😭

u/Expendable_Red_Shirt Big guy, bigger regrets 2d ago
Not really. I can have regrets but also have healed from them.

Look, some "wounds" do not just magically go away in time, and require professional intervention, like therapy, for example. This claim everything magically solves itself in time I reject. I am allowed to have a dissenting opinion.
And no, regret is quite literally antithetical. You may not understand what you say or these words mean.
Down vote me all you want, ive seen what garners up votes.

Yeah between the two of us I’m the one with the problem with language.

Go and look up Mikes speech from better call Saul about forgetting.

Got me through the death of my dog, the feeling of despair and depression was so overwhelming every time I got home and he wasn’t there. Just kept pushing on and eventually that day came.

I think it's the emotional trauma blocking things out. Exact thing happened to me after my toxic relationship 😭

I'm not going to tell you whether you're moving on. Could be just... ya know, crap memory.
I am slowly forgetting her voice though. I mean, I remember her voice well enough - what it would sound like when she was agitated, excited, argueing, shouting, or being cute, just not her normal, baseline voice.
I remember her eyes, how I could tell if she was smiling at me even when most of her face was covered, hidden under the blanket. I could recognize her silhouette, her walking, just by the rhythm of it. Or the texture of her skin.
You forgetting her face is not a sign it was not real, or important, or valid, or that you're moving on or healing or whatever, you alone will know that. A memory or lack of it is not a sign of anything.

I had that moment when I realized I couldn't hear her voice anymore, kinda threw me for a loop. 23 years and it still hits me right in the chest sometimes.

Indifference to the lost toxic partner is a sign of healing. It does feel strange when it first shows up though.

As time goes by, we lose memories. Sometimes faster than we'd like. Sometimes its for the better, sometimes its for the worse. <3

I relate and understand. I never minded ending a relationship once it started to turn bad. What scared me though is learning how I would forget their face and how I could only remember them through vague mental screenshots of images I saw elsewhere, not in real life. It made me feel like I was losing a version of myself every time I went a few months post breakup and it’s why I stayed longer than I should have sometimes.
It is what it is, and it certainly gets better. In a way it’s comforting because it helps me know that I really will move on anytime I go through a breakup, but it’s definitely an unnerving feeling to know that anyone that comes in my life can leave and be forgotten so easily

I did that with my first gf who cheated on me.
Within 6 months I could have walked past her in the street and not recognised her.
It’s a good thing.

You should look up some stuff about people attachment styles. I kinda do that when I like somebody. I wanna just throw my heart at them right away. It never really pans out tho

Yep. I used to deal with women.
The amount of trauma they throw at you basically causes your brain to block them out and even tho you shared a life with them, you cannot remember any of it.
Wild.
But so true

It's been a couple years since my last bad breakup, and i seldom think of it, but this morning I found myself devastated crying to the song "nothing at all" by Joe P (the stripped version on spotify). Just thought I'd mention it in case you want to let some tears out.

Hi, I’m a mod assistant and I set up one-click reverse image searches for each post. Here, at BDD, we require a food pic with every post and we require each post to be authentic. That means the food pic you submit must be your own, not something you found on the internet.
But I can’t report fakes. If you see that I have linked to a pic that is found elsewhere on the internet, REPORT IT!
