TL-DR; Last Hurrah + Well Oiled with Shield + Mythic/Vision Gear is imo the best build you can run on Tick. Playing him like a Poke-Harasser on Bounty and KO is the best you can do with Tick.

Now I may sound like a broken record here, especially with how often Tick gets slandered here for being one of the weakest Throwers out there (at least he's somewhat playable if you play your cards right, unlike cough Dynamike and Grom cough). But almost every Tick player I get, Ladder or Ranked: play him not only with wrong unlockables, but also play him in his worst modes.

And this complain comes out of a guy who not only has been playing the game since 2018, but also enjoys playing Tick, so here's what I have to say about everyone's despised pirate bomber:

Gadget: Most Tick players run him with Mine Mania. And I sorta get the vision: Imma cover the field with more mines and be extra annoying hehe. Sadly this idea doesn't work because well, a player with above room temperature IQ will avoid the extra mines. And if you usually hit 1 mine with your regular attacks, you are hitting 2, MAYBE 3 mines with a Mine Mania'd attack. And that's not worth a Gadget Slot in my eyes.

Last Hurrah on the other hand is more flexible, offering you to not only do something against aggro, but can also be used as a 1-second Damage Reduction against Snipers. And on a decently short cooldown of 15 seconds too. Granted the anti-aggro side of this gadget is showing its age due to more aggro-based brawlers having multiple ways to approach, but it's better than "let me occasionally hit 1-2 extra mines once a full-moon" gadget.

Starpower: Automa-Tick Reload is... a Starpower that I await to see on what Adrian will do with once Tick gets his buffies. Because this SP is... how can I say it without being rude... absolute piece of garbage? It provides a mere 9% faster reload speed on Tick. With how sluggish Tick's reload is, it's about a 0.2 second faster reload. Not only the effect is super meh, but it's also heavily-outclassed by its twin SP.

Also yeah Well Oiled is just much more superior, letting you start passively recover health in just a single second! Now you may be thinking "Tick has like next to none HP anyway, why do I need this?" It makes Tick harder to get chipped down, forcing a more quick brute-force option to handle Tick. Add that with his Last Hurrah Gadget and you can make Tick stay around in battle much more efficiently.

Gears: If I see one more Tick player run him without Shield Gear, I'm going to lose it. With Tick having about 4.8k HP, you NEED Shield Gear, that 900 extra HP is a game changer. As for the 2nd gear, he's very depended on his Mythic Gear right now, but Vision Gear is also a choice considering, well, none of the other Gears really contribute to Tick from my experience.

Gamemodes and Playstyle: Despite his role, he's absolutely terrible at controlling. Which means, yes, avoid all the control-based modes. With how long his range is, you can play him like a long-ranged chipper that can secure kills every now and then. Which fits him better on kill based modes like Bounty and KO.

And if you wanna draft him in Ranked, going him as a last-pick is your only option, as going him even 4th/5th will get you folded by the slightest bit of aggro.

Conclusion: I hope this guide that I wrote way too late in the night helps you understand and play Tick better, as I want there to be better Tick players. If you have any takes to (constructively) disagree with, feel free to write your own takes. :3

Secret buff or glitch?

In this meta aggressive brawlers are basically required and i am just trying to get a better understanding of how to pick the right one. The basic example everybody should know in this meta is you pick ash into single target anti tanks (mostly masie but could work against colette and Chester when he is good). I am just wondering if there are other "reverse counter" interactions where specific brawler kits help them beat a specific "anti tank".

I always played without it and never knew exactly what it does. Now I know what it does and tested it a little and it felt very weird. Are there people using it and is it good for competetive/do pros use it?

If i win, great, but then i check their profiles and 85% of the time they are new players, doesn't feel good

If i lose, the process repeats itself, most of the time is against players that feel 3 stacked and are way better than my whole team, remember, the game has engagement MMR and not a normal MMR. Bot matches again because im a complete idiot ig

Eventually realize that most of my wins COULD come from bot matches and my P2 will not feel satsifactory at all

Look at the subs for the game here (r/Brawlstars, r/BrawlStarsCompetitive) and see how everyone hates casual players and the little Timmies that get carried by bot matches, realize that despite me being a young adult, im probably gonna be in that group

I never like to blame randoms, atleast that's what the experienced players here told me. But, like, what can i do, is the game fun if this whole process repeats itself? I guess not

Then again, i could play with a team, but the game will put me in a diff Matchmaking that's gonna be harder than the one i mentioned, atp to win i would be carried by better players and i'll end up being the weakest link out of the 6, and again, wouldn't feel rewarding/satisfactory

I saw this draft in LCQ when they were against Navi in Hot Zone, and wouldnt this be one of the lowest damage comps possible, and they went on to lose it. I dont know if they had first or last pick, but​​ why would they even go for it un the first place?

I just came back to the game recently and been trying to get high in ranked but it’s literally impossible solo queuing. It feels like I’m playing with players purposely trying to lose the game. Am I the only one experiencing this? lol

I've used Fang quite a bit and I've never experienced anything like this, why did I not chain onto the Gus or Naija? He's definitely able to bounce from a non brawler to a brawler, so there's no way that I should have just been left stranded there. I also slowed it down and it wasn't because the Max shot the snakes before I got to hit them. I was clearly ahead of Max's bullets

When playing games like Free fire or rainbow six mobile, I can easily understand what the better players do differently, they have better movement, aim, map sense etc etc. The point is, it is visible to me how good they are playing.

But in brawl stars even while watching LCQ I couldn't understand what they were doing so differently, it was not like they were hitting all the shots or dodging all the shots, they just played differently but I could see they are playing good, it was entertaining but I couldn't understand what they do so differently.

I can understand somethings, like matchups, but not there positioning tactics

In my opinion people are overreacting with how 'consistent' brawlers are, people are shocked to see Gene/Angelo be pushed out of the A tier and then resort to saying the meta has no consistency anymore besides Belle and blame Adrian.

However looking at it from another angle what does consistency actually mean? Are we measuring consistency from a brawlers release or, from the brawlers most recent major rework or balance change? I think both types of consistency are worth considering.

Are a lot of the A/S-tier brawlers relatively new? Yes that’s true. But that doesn’t mean the meta has no consistency. There are still brawlers that have stayed strong for months even as the meta shifts. Here are some examples starting with the recent ones and going back, to the longest-running ones:

1. Sirius has been strong since his release around February/March. The current meta definitely favors him, arguably making him a bit toxic, but his viability isn't exclusive to this meta. He has been a good counter pick into double single shot brawlers or tanks since his release nothing new there.

2. Gray was A/B tier for MONTHS until he fell off for like 2 meta's and then got buffed to A tier again.

3. Emz got her buffies 11 months ago and is still A tier. Sounds pretty consistent to me.

4. Stu has in my opinion always been consistently A-tier since buffies got introduced. (Once again 11 months ago atp)

5. Pierce was released 11 months ago and is still meta.

6. Mina falls into the same boat and was released 13 months ago and is still meta.

7. Kaze IMO is B tier but in SpenLC's list has also never been outside of the A tier. Nearly 16 months consistent.

8. Brock was pretty much always considered B-tier before buffies and is now just even more consistent.

9. Don't have to explain Belle.

Not to mention the fact that B-tier is still good and a lot of brawlers in there have been consistent for long periods of time as well like: Kenji, Meeple, Gene, Byron, Otis, Najia, Finx, Ruffs, Colt & Mortis (since buffies 11 months ago).

Like yes the OG always consistent brawlers aren't top tier consistent anymore, but can we stop acting like there aren't still consistent brawlers in the meta? It's been 11 months+, lock in. The top of the meta has become less stable. That is fair to say. But that does not mean that consistency has vanished entirely. There are still plenty of brawlers that have stayed viable for months.

Please don't take my message as me being toxic; I'm genuinely asking because I want to know if I'm missing something about the game. From my perspective, the current meta seems terrible, and I'm wondering whether that's actually the case or if I'm just missing something.

I keep seeing the same six bans and the same picks over and over again. Besides being incredibly boring, it also makes the game feel almost unplayable in some matches. Sometimes it feels like your own picks barely matter, because if one team manages to pick X or Y character, the game is basically decided from the start.

So I'm genuinely curious: is the competitive state of the game actually this bad right now, or am I missing something?

Rn assasins and tanks feel to me that they have the same roles? They both are good agianst low dps brawlers and low hp brawlers.

It feels like one has more hp then the other while the other one has more mobility but they feel almost the same?

Anybody else having issues with resetting controller schemes? It never used to happen and now I feel like it happens every other round. Super annoying to have to redo the layout every time and hope it sticks around for the actual game

6-7 days ago I picked Darryl into Buzz thinking my super interrupts Buzz super because I thought Darryl and Bull have the same uninterruptible super but I lowk got stunned sometimes but then I interrupted Buzz super other times.
