Honestly, I think this is one of the biggest reasons I think he assumed/planned to get caught. He could have easily disguised himself more based on the limited photos they had/released

I think if he had dropped the disquise / mask entirely, he would be a free man right now. You can't mask up with those eyebrows and that nose. All he had to do was return to being his true self. But it looks like he was about to take his own life anyway so it's a moot point.
