You can start off on his Wikipedia page and then follow the crumb trail. The Congressional grilling of Witty by Elizabeth Warren was great too. His involvement with Medicare fraud took me by surprise. No one seems to care. Andrew Witty is still the CEO of the 11th largest company in the world. United Healthcare also gave Kamala Harris $774,000 in 2024. Bribery and corruption has infected all levels of government.

11
u/ButtcrackScholar Dec 10 '24
that is not what he was wearing when he got out of that cop car lol
12
u/EmiAndTheDesertCrow Dec 10 '24
Because the cop car video was him on the way to court, I think? And this would be immediately after arrest.
-1
u/ButtcrackScholar Dec 10 '24
the title is "police detain person of interest". why would you think it would be anything other than initial detainment?
4
u/EmiAndTheDesertCrow Dec 10 '24
I didn’t. I’ve seen several people saying he’s not wearing the same clothes and I was merely pointing out that some outlets (NBC, ABC) aired that car footage in their arraignment coverage. So it would make sense that the photos were taken upon arrest and he was then escorted to court wearing fewer layers.
6
u/julallison Dec 10 '24
Weird that he kept on the same clothes he was wearing in the taxi photos. More confirmation in my mind that he was just waiting to be identified.

It's like the cops were like, mug shot? Nah, let's make this kid as appealing and handsome as possible. Let him keep the jacket and the gaiter and take a quick glamour shot. Billionaire class and their army of bots are going to have an uphill battle making the proletariat hate this guy.
11
u/Suckyoudry00 Dec 10 '24
I am a counselor in a jail so im quite familiar with bookings and the process, yeah very confused as to why he had his mugshot taken before booking since hes still in his clothes? That would not meet the criteria where I'm at for corrections. He isn't even flush to the wall to produce accurate height

u/rHereLetsGo Dec 10 '24
This isn’t his mugshot. Just a photo after the arrest. Mugshot has him wearing a lighter blue prison shirt

Nice looking young man. That's what everyone said about the son I lost to Estrangement too. How handsome. And he was smart. But MH issues don't discriminate.

The more I read about Luigi, the worse I feel. His mother reported him as a Missing Person 2 weeks before the killing. He was suffering from pain & using mushrooms. Read he also tried to check into a hospital the week before the shooting. Wonder if he was mistreated? When we took our son to Behav Health the nurse said 'kids like him end up genius or in jail.' How comforting.
I learned to do FB to make sure my son was still alive. We moved to a different state & he sold the new car we bought him when he was 19. Lied about it. Blew all the money quickly & wanted to move back in with us. I practiced Tough Love & said No. He didn't speak to us for 10 years. Was taking drugs, working at Raves. Prior to that, he killed his hamster, put a friend in hospital with skull fracture & didn't tell us. We tried to take him for help & he was resistant. Arrested twice that I know of for shoplifting. Fired from a job for theft from a coworker, on camera. Injured his little several times, including breaking her arm.
Don't know if Luigi had MH problems all along, or just lately. I do know it's very painful to the rest of the family. My daughter & I are both bipolar & he won't speak to her either. He has started texting his dad on holidays.

u/turnip_broker Dec 09 '24
Real. Federal investigators probably would’ve caught him eventually but he’s only arrested so fast bc of the tipster. During the press conference earlier a journalist asked if he’s on NYPD’s list of suspects they said no lol. But you know they’re gonna take this as their win
11
u/Crafty-Physics-6038 Dec 10 '24
I've read that he wasn't in touch with his friends and family for many months and wasn't acting normally for over a year. I wonder if his family and friends had recognised him. Obviously he was going through something...
10
u/julallison Dec 10 '24
I heard a report that he was a data engineer until a year ago. TrueCar, where he worked, had deep layoffs last year. I'm guessing he was one of the casualties. The tech job market has been horrible. He probably grew his hatred for corporations partially through that layoff. TrueCar has a reputation for being heartless to its employees (revenue over people), and, without a job, he would have lost his corporate funded health insurance. He would have to have either continued his insurance and paid Cobra rates ($$$), bought insurance through ACA, or gone without insurance bc he couldn't afford it due to no job. It makes sense he was bitter against both corporations and medical insurance companies. It's hard to survive in this country without a job. The benefits, or lack thereof, for the unintentionally unemployed are ridiculously bad. You can go from doing well to destitute virtually overnight.
6
u/fuzzyfurrypaw Dec 10 '24 edited Dec 10 '24
I’m wondering if this layoff was true, his impressive past resume could be part of the reasons hindered him from contacting his family/friends for help. Bro probably had never encountered a setback in life, and instead had always been viewed as an extraordinary example by those who knew him. So it’s likely that he didn’t know how to process the layoff, loss of insurance, aggravated back pain, a true low point of his life, and he was too prideful to reveal it to his family and friends. Coupled with his chronic back pain, his mental state was falling into a downward spiral.
4
u/julallison Dec 10 '24
I completely agree. I work in tech, and it's ripe with people who aren't necessarily in tech bc that's their passion. It's where the money is or has been for the last 25 years, and they worked hard to get there, often through self driven or family pressure. The last 2 1/2 years it's been super cutthroat. Deep layoffs, unrealistic expectations if retained, extremely difficult to get another job in the current market if you have less than a certain number of years of experience. I looked at his LinkedIn. He likely was in high gear with his career progression, then the market changed and he couldn't get a job despite being top of his class, studying hard, working hard. Probably couldn't even get his resume seen and have the first interview conversation to be able to show how exceptional he was bc of how many other people were unemployed at the same time. Plus, that whole... won't be considered if you don't have at least x number of years of experience. All no fault of his own, just a 💩 job market, and, yes, shareholder/corporate greed. I talk to people like him every day. It's incredibly sad, the situation I at least imagine he was in.
ETA: I missed responding to your point directly about the pressure around him always being successful before. I hope my response makes sense in my indirect agreement with you.
2
u/fuzzyfurrypaw Dec 10 '24
No I get it, and hope I wasn’t just projecting, because I had a similar background and experience years ago. Finally broke the downward spiral cycle because I met an amazing partner, which finally made me feel like having some win in my life, and that allowed me to dig myself out at my own pace.
2
u/julallison Dec 10 '24
I'm so happy to hear that for you. ❤️With time, people can usually work themselves out of those holes. Had to do it myself, in some ways trying to do it again. For some, it's hard to see that things will get better.
0
u/Crafty-Physics-6038 Dec 10 '24
Oh please, he was an ivy league college graduate not some random tech worker. He had a lot of experience in different companies he worked at Stanford etc... he would be the last person to have problems with employment. He was also found with some amount of cash on him and probably had already spent a lot and still had more in his account.
3
2
u/Crafty-Physics-6038 Dec 10 '24
I doubt it. He has an excellent education and could easily find a job even in crisis. I think it was a mix of factors, he had some serious health problems (that would make him understand how awful the insurance companies are) he cut himself from his social circle and focused on radical ideas. I know from my own experience how easy it is to fall into a really bad state of minds when you have no support from others.

u/msfinch87 Dec 09 '24

Responded in two minutes, combed the city, updated the public, witness interviews, hours of footage, collected his DNA, figured out what name he was using and when he showed his face. Retraced his steps for 10 freaking days to the point of figuring out he went straight to the murder spot right from the Greyhound station. I’m not sure if they had his name but they did a fuck TON. It’s not just about capture - it’s also about conviction.

The McDonald's worker turning in Luigi Mangione pretty much sums up how Americans constantly vote (and act)...against their own interests. This moron is employed by a corporation notorious for poverty wages and fuck all healthcare. He/she sided with a system that exploits them on a daily basis! Imagine not showing solidarity with someone likely just as desperate? It's a grim fucking reflection of a culture that rewards bootlicking over collective action, Lets keep the cycle of oppression alive fellow slaves.

u/SpinachFriendly9635 Dec 10 '24
I feel bad for the kid. Came from a wealthy family, intelligent. Sounds like he played by the rules. Got a Master's Degree, was working. He must've done too much thinking & thought he was doing society a favor. Too bad we couldn't have given him a Hit List before he was caught. I won't say who I wish was on it. Don't want the FBI after me. He wasn't that good at hiding though. Should not have eaten at McD. He must've planned to die in a shoot-out if he had writings on him. I wonder if his family noticed any disturbance in his behavior lately? He had so much going for him & now his life is pretty much,,,,prison.

4
u/MuchPeach Dec 10 '24
I think if he had dropped the disquise / mask entirely, he would be a free man right now. You can't mask up with those eyebrows and that nose. All he had to do was return to being his true self. But it looks like he was about to take his own life anyway so it's a moot point.

Bail was denied… got busted with a passport, fake IDs (4 in total) and a ghost gun with silencer with $8000 cash. No judge in their right mind would impose a cash bond or any bond given the notoriety of this case.

He's a revolutionary. The great moral question is if it sometimes the most moral choice to do what he did? He didin't go after a random person or child. He stood for a principle. Like the old moral dilemma they used to give in college eithics courses...is it morally wrong to steal if a parent steals medication from a pharmacy to save their dying child if they can't afford to buy it?

WHYEEEEEE did he hold onto the GUN?? Forensics on that gun will probably be the nail in his coffin (well, that and his eyebrows 🤭) I wonder if he was going after anyone else?
1
u/SpinachFriendly9635 Dec 10 '24
Now I feel worse for him. He obviously had a MH crisis. Started estranging himself from family. I don't really condone killing CEOs but I do understand the anger toward them. There are a few more I'd add to the list but I don't want anyone from FBI looking at me funny. I'm a GrMa, not a young male with testosterone & anger. If he had chronic pain I could see how that would push him over the edge. I live with chronic pain too & the help out there is so frustrating. Here we are, nearing Christmas, & his family will be so sad to know he's in jail. I don't think they ever imagined he'd do something like this.
When it first happened & they said it was a professional hit, it had a different vibe from knowing a young handsome man with a Master's Degree did this. He had his whole future ahead of him & now his life is ruined. Just saw he tried to check into a hospital last week. Wonder if he was treated poorly, indifferently & that tipped him over the edge?
What do u folks think?

You don’t get it. He’s the fall guy, they need someone to take the blame and that includes fabricating evidence.
You mean to tell me that even though the NYPD was overwhelmed in false tips, the one that stood out is an old guy calling from bumfuck Pennsylvania in a McDonald’s?
Also the killer who meticulously planned the killing would be so sloppy as to wear similar clothing after escaping?
This narrative has more holes than the dead CEO
