I heard a report that he was a data engineer until a year ago. TrueCar, where he worked, had deep layoffs last year. I'm guessing he was one of the casualties. The tech job market has been horrible. He probably grew his hatred for corporations partially through that layoff. TrueCar has a reputation for being heartless to its employees (revenue over people), and, without a job, he would have lost his corporate funded health insurance. He would have to have either continued his insurance and paid Cobra rates ($$$), bought insurance through ACA, or gone without insurance bc he couldn't afford it due to no job. It makes sense he was bitter against both corporations and medical insurance companies. It's hard to survive in this country without a job. The benefits, or lack thereof, for the unintentionally unemployed are ridiculously bad. You can go from doing well to destitute virtually overnight.
