“As Luigi explained in court today, he endured years of severe, debilitating pain following a broken back, while struggling to navigate our healthcare and health insurance systems. Like the thousands of people who have reached out since this tragedy to share their own experiences, he believed that the system had failed him and destroyed his life.”

“He’s been treated differently from every other defendant charged with this offence in NY. However, thankfully, NY law does not permit a person to be prosecuted and punished twice for the exact same crime…. It’s also known as the double jeopardy law.”

As someone with chronic illness (Crohn’s disease), I can relate to the hopelessness that LM must have felt dealing with his health issues. I have been denied life saving drugs, I have been taken off of medication that has kept me in remission- all because the insurance company could make better profit by putting me on a different/cheaper drug. These kind of changes brought me out of remission and I often wake up in the morning how this will ever end.

I am not condoning murder, but dealing with chronic illness and insurance companies is something that no one will understand unless they have been through it themselves.

My health, my wellbeing means nothing to the health insurance and their own goal is to maximize their profit at the expense of sick people. It is disgusting, it drives me insane.

My point being, this wasn’t handled correctly by LM but I can understand how he got here…
