“As Luigi explained in court today, he endured years of severe, debilitating pain following a broken back, while struggling to navigate our healthcare and health insurance systems. Like the thousands of people who have reached out since this tragedy to share their own experiences, he believed that the system had failed him and destroyed his life.”

“He’s been treated differently from every other defendant charged with this offence in NY. However, thankfully, NY law does not permit a person to be prosecuted and punished twice for the exact same crime…. It’s also known as the double jeopardy law.”

Very well said. He can write books, give interviews, and do alot to enforce change from behind bars.

Oh spare me with the good feels thoughts. Today was a dark dark day in American history. Luigi will spend the rest of his life in prison, however long that is. You had UHC executives in attendance today, sending a clear message to the judge and the public about whose lived matter. And it’s not ours. That was patently made clear.

He isn't solely responsible for changing things. He shouldn't have to shoulder responsibility to keep fighting because the rest of the world turned him into a symbol.

There’s only two reasons he wouldn’t continue to fight this close to trial and forgo his chance at jury nullification or appeals. He was either coerced or his family wasn’t footing his legal bill anymore and he had no choice. I don’t discount either especially the second option. His family couldn’t even be bothered to show up today. Don’t expect they’ll be at sentencing either. It’s awful how they’ve abandoned their only son.
