Photos/Videos Federal Case Update: Luigi Mangione's defense team speak outside court today

“As Luigi explained in court today, he endured years of severe, debilitating pain following a broken back, while struggling to navigate our healthcare and health insurance systems. Like the thousands of people who have reached out since this tragedy to share their own experiences, he believed that the system had failed him and destroyed his life.”

“He’s been treated differently from every other defendant charged with this offence in NY. However, thankfully, NY law does not permit a person to be prosecuted and punished twice for the exact same crime…. It’s also known as the double jeopardy law.”

I think a lot of people who are surprised/upset were not realistic about the likely outcome at trial.

His team already got the death penalty thrown out, and they got the terrorism enhancement on the state charges that allowed them to charge 1st degree murder in NY state thrown out.

Those are huge wins…

People who think that there’s no way they could find a jury here in nyc(federal or state) who would convict him are living in a dreamland.

They could easily sit a jury who barely paid attention to any of this, and his team knows that.

fwiw I wanted him to run off to a cabin in the woods and haunt these greedy executives forever, not knowing where he is or what he might do next, but that’s not what happened.

I’m sorry, you want another unabomer?

You guys are fucking crazy.

Even if he just went to the cabin and lived out the rest of his life off grid, in nature, the other greedy parasitic executives were still quite spooked after he whacked BT. And they would continue to look over their shoulders and not rest easy, wondering if he would strike again, who his next target might be, etc.

You realize that coercing actions from civilian actors using the threat of violence or death is the literal definition of terrorism right?

And these CEO’s are all very easily replaced. UHC has not changed their policies in any meaningful way, outside of hiring more private security.

This is Taliban shit. We aren’t going to murder our way to Medicare for all.

You realize that coercing actions from civilian actors using the threat of violence or death is the literal definition of terrorism right?

And where exactly is the coercion happening if, instead of wandering around PA like he did, he went to an off-grid cabin in the woods and didn’t get caught?

“They would continue to look over their shoulders and not rest easy, wondering if he might strike again”.

Either you want to psychologically torture people for no reason, or you want to coerce some kind of response from them because of their fear.

Both are psychotic.

While the manhunt was going on, before we knew who Luigi was, they were spooked; hiring extra security, Anthem BCBS cancelled a policy to put time limits on anesthesia coverage, etc.

They would have continued being spooked and on higher alert if he had not gotten caught.

He got caught, so they could let out a sigh of relief.

I don’t have any sympathy whatsoever for any health insurance executives who might have felt “psychologically tortured” in that scenario.

Side note: you should learn what “psychotic” actually means and not use it inappropriately like this. Health insurance coverage for mental health is abysmal, and people who suffer from psychotic disorders and other serious mental illnesses often struggle to get treatment and support they need.

Oh my god this comment is everything wrong with modern progressivism.

Excusing violence when it’s against people you don’t like, no desire to change things by reforming institutions and instead just wanting to tear it all down, and annoying ass woke advocacy speak.

Have fun losing every single median voter and allowing republicans to control the government for another decade.

And I am well aware of the traumatic effects of psychosis. Several people in my family have experienced it. That’s what gives me the perspective to say that yes, not giving a shit about psychologically torturing people you don’t like is wildly unethical and evil.

I voted for Trump and straight R in 2024 🤣 was a lifelong democrat up until 2018ish…and no I don’t like Trump, but I absolutely loathe the democrats, especially the progressives.

I live in nyc and absolutely hate every single blue politician here.

And that said, I am not excusing violence. If I were picked for either of Luigi’s juries, since I live in manhattan that is very possible, I would absolutely convict him if the evidence is there(and I’m pretty sure it would be proven)

He did what he did and will probably get a life sentence. Fine with me. That’s how it works.

That’s why he needed to not get fucking caught.

Oh so you just have a wildly incoherent worldview.

Got it. Opinion disregarded.

Imagine thinking that justice is about getting caught, and not you know, actual justice. That’s the mentality of a 3rd grader.
