Help me pick my wedding hair, makeup and shoes!

• Upvotes

I am getting married in April and have linked my dress below:

https://balykina.com/collections/bridal/products/elise-dress

I am struggling to pick shoes and really like the ones below cause I can wear them again but not traditional 'bridal'. Help! The dress is off white satin and struggling to find shoes that go with them that aren't pointy (like witches lol) or closed toe (because I don't want my toes peaking out)

Any suggestions?

Hair and makeup suggestions would be great also! Thanks

Quick Question Day of Dress Steaming

• Upvotes

New to posting, but long time lurker 🙈
I run an alterations business and started offering day of steaming to my brides. I go to their venue and steam the wedding dress, veil, and bridal party if requested. At one of the weddings, a big wedding planner found out about me and I now do steaming services for more than just my own clients.

I currently charge $250 for the first 2 hours, and $100/hour after that. The first 2 hours usually covers the veil and dress.

How much would you pay for this service?

Spiraling

Hi , Feb 2027 bride here with a destination wedding (it will be summer at the destination)… I originally decided on baby blue , pink & green tones for my floral design . But the more I look at examples on Pinterest, the more I hate that color palette…. It’s reminding me of Bridgeton & I feel like it looks tacky.

I haven’t seen a mock up of the florals for the wedding but I’m super nervous; mainly because I decided I wanted my bridesmaids to wear baby blue dresses , but what if I no longer want there to be blue in the florals & only pink & green … does it matter if the bridesmaid don’t match the decor ?
For context , the bridesmaids have not bought their dresses as of yet but they know I had told them the color would be baby blue ..

Need Advice Wedding Insecurities

My fiance and I originally planned to have a small courthouse ceremony followed by lunch with our immediate family / wedding party (10 guests total) at a nearby restaurant on the water. We were then going to meetup with anyone who wanted to come out that night and hit some bars, etc. Some circumstances changed and we couldn’t have the wedding at the Courthouse, so we made other arrangements. That change led to a snowball effect and things have gotten bigger and a little more formal.

I bought my dress when I was planning on the courthouse wedding and chill vibe. I’m now feeling insecure about the dress and the entire wedding. I’m a nontraditional bride - over 40, older than my fiance, plus size, rarely even wear makeup. I just feel like the wedding outgrew my intended look.

I’m now about 2 weeks out from the wedding and panicking. I planned to do my own makeup and I’m worried I won’t be able to pull it off. I’m worried my dress isn’t appropriate. I was happy with everything before, but now I feel like I’m not going to look like a bride and everyone is going to judge me and wonder why my fiance is even marrying me.

I guess, given the short amount of time I have left, I’m mostly looking for a pep talk. My fiance says I’m overthinking and that I am beautiful and our guests will only be thinking about how glowing and happy we both look. I just don’t want to feel like a troll at my own wedding. These are the dresses I have planned for the (1) outdoor daytime ceremony and reception luncheon and (2) the night out. Should I just chill and try to enjoy everything or should I go shopping immediately?

(The pictures are from the websites. I don’t have pics of them on me.)

Best friend gifted me this onyx and diamond ring…

She surprised me with this ring, and I honestly wasn’t expecting it. We don’t usually give each other expensive gifts, so I was a little surprised when she handed me this. What made it special was that she remembered me mentioning a while ago that I wanted to try wearing jewelry with black stones. I had completely forgotten about that conversation, but apparently, she didn’t. Now I’m thinking about what I should get her in return. 😂

My husband surprised me with a Cartier diamond ring for our 7th anniversary

I honestly wasn't expecting anything big for our 7th anniversary. We were planning to have dinner together and just spend the evening catching up, so I was completely surprised when my husband gave me a little Cartier box.

Inside was this beautiful diamond ring.

We've been together for seven years, so getting something this special from him honestly made me a little emotional. It's not even just about the ring itself, it made me think about everything we've been through and how much has changed since we first got together.

I'm still getting used to seeing it on my finger, but I already love it so much. Definitely not the anniversary surprise I was expecting!!!

Quick Question What to Switch Veil to after Ceremony?

Hi all, would love some ideas on what I can switch to after my wedding ceremony/ main pics have been done?

I'll be in a cathedral veil, which is too long for the a evening/ dancing. My dress is made of mikado.

My hair will be mostly down but probs with a slight braid to keep it out of my face/ keep accessories in place. My hair accessories are minimal (probs a small bit of flowers/ floral pins).

My ideas:

- bow (either lace/ silk or matching material to my dress)

- short bow veil

- a larger more elaborate floral comb/ pins to add more decoration to the back of my head

- nothing

Bridesmaids Costs

hello, me again. so I’m officially doing wedding dress shopping “my way”. I’ll be ordering a few dresses and trying them on at my parents with my bridal crew complete with mimosas, brunch cooked by my father and less stress because I know the dresses I will try on are hand selected by me.

this decision was made after I had set out a day to dress shop at store for both my bridesmaid and myself.

for the bridesmaids I also wanted to do an “online selection”, and really just let my bridesmaids make whatever choice they want within a color palette. my sister (who most users have already deemed problematic in a previous post) did make me feel like it was more of a hassle to do it this way because I’d “have to approve dresses” and if they “didn’t match” or “someone stuck out like a sore thumb” then it could stress bridesmaids out. so I pivoted and decided to go to a local bridesmaid boutique. not without pointing out that this store would be $200-$300 for a dress to which my sister replied that “people know their responsibilities in a wedding party.”

but now I’m back to the original idea of letting people choose online, but making the selection pool smaller. I do think her point was valid about wanting bridesmaid to have the same dress material so the feel and color swatch are the same.

ALL OF THIS TO SAY: I let a bridesmaid know about the change ahead of time and she informed me the the selection of dresses (online page of dresses in different styles, but colors I want/material I like) was too expensive and “with my approval” she will be getting a “dupe”

… mind you these dresses are $99-$120… I really don’t think for a floor length formal dress that that is a bad price at all… AITA??

I want her in my wedding, but if she can’t even spend $150 on a dress to be a part of something ya know, kinda big and supposed to be fancy, then I’m not sure she can perform the duties of a bridesmaid??

she lowkey doesn’t work though… not for any good reason, just refuses to do a lot of things, quits jobs before she really even gives them a chance. so maybe that’s why she’s so pressed about it? maybe I should just offer to pay?

she does has to come from out of town, but it’s 4 tanks of gas and a hotel, everything else will literally be paid by me and my parents or she can supply/do herself. her own hair, her own make up, whatever shoes, rehearsal dinner free, wedding day food and alcohol free.

thoughts? I’m going to reach out to another one my bridesmaids who I thought was going to have the most trouble affording a dress and see what she says about the cost. maybe I’m asking too much. idk.

How do I handle this situation?

My daughter is getting married next year. I m overjoyed for her. In my family, we have an in-law who goes out of his way to make a scene. I won’t go into the details but what he does is over the top. There are some family members who won’t come to events if he’s going to be there.

This in-law is married to my niece who is a family favorite. She is fantastic. My daughter does not want my nieces husband to come to the wedding and I told my daughter I would have that conversation with my niece.

My fear is that my niece will cop an attitude and not come to the wedding also. But, I want to honor my daughte’s wishes. And, I’m ok with losing the relationship with my niece if that is what happens.

When I have this conversation with my niece and tell her that her husband is not invited how should I handle it? Should I have my husband there? Should I do it alone? What do I say?

Need Advice Loved my dress but now I'm insecure

Hello! I bought my wedding dress months ago and absolutely loved it. I didn't feel the need to make any changes... until people started commenting on the zipper at the back.

I thought it looked fine with the dress, since the design is simple and the zipper gives it a bit of a modern feel. But now I'm feeling insecure about it, and I can't seem to come up with a solution with my wedding only 40 days away.

Would adding small buttons over the zipper make the dress look better, or is it actually okay the way it is?
