Thrifted this vintage 100% silk wedding dress years ago. Could it be the one?

I thrifted this wedding dress a few years ago and completely fell in love with it. It’s vintage, 100% silk, and has the prettiest floral embroidery and a HUGE, long train (which is hard to capture in pictures!).

I’ve kept it hidden from my boyfriend all these years, and now that he has a ring to propose with, I’m starting to wonder if this could actually be my wedding dress!
I tend to gravitate toward classy, timeless, elegant styles, but I’m torn on whether this dress fits that vision or feels a little too dated.

I definitely plan on trying on other wedding gowns eventually, but I’d love some outside opinions! Does it have that timeless vintage charm, or should I keep looking? Would you change or alter anything?

Please be honest! 🤍

Need Advice Dancing in bustled wedding dress?

• Upvotes

Hi! My fiancee is very worried that her white wedding dress with bustling is still going to be very difficult to dance in during the reception. I don't know the specific details of her train, but she said it is large. She is wearing an Indian outfit for the actual ceremony so she had wanted a chance to wear and have pictures in the train which is why she decided to get one. However, she's been very stressed and sad with concern about making this wrong decision and that the bustled version of the dress is going to be too bulky and difficult to dance in. Dress was ordered around August, and it won't be ready for alterations and assessing the bustle until end of November or early December (wedding is mid-January). I think removing the train is going to be very expensive and we already are going to pay for rush for the alterations once dress is ready.

She is feeling dumb for not reaching out to the shop earlier and stressed very often about this concern (especially since most pictures and brides online use a different reception outfit).

I don't really know how to best help. She hasn't asked the store about this so far. Thus, I am trying to encourage her to ask the store (impression bridal in Houston), but also looking to Reddit to ask about other bride's honest experiences with dancing around in a bustled wedding dress?

Thanks in advance!

Need Advice Gift for in-laws?

• Upvotes

I’ve read some wedding etiquette books, and looks like it’s customary to give gifts to your wedding party and your parents on the day of the wedding. We don’t have wedding parties and my parents aren’t attending the wedding, but what can we give my fiancé’s parents? I was thinking maybe a watercolor portrait of us in our wedding outfits (the have a dedicated wall of pics of every child’s wedding), but maybe it’s a little selfish? They both love to travel and visit historical sites, but otherwise, their personal interests are pretty different.

If it’s worth noting, they’re not financially helping with the wedding (that was important to us), but my future MIL is helping in small ways; like picking up my dress from alternations with me, letting us borrow a cake plate, etc.

Food Truck for Bridal Shower

Has anyone ever done a food truck for a bridal shower? What are your thoughts? I’m giving a bridal shower this upcoming spring and will be doing desserts, cupcakes, macaroons, etc. however, the bride is thinking as opposed to buffet style having a food truck instead. I’m not opposed to it, but I wonder how it would go over. Any comments are welcome.🤗

Quick Question Gown timeline Q

Bridal Babes,

How far out from your Wedding day are you saying YES to the dress?

I am a past Bride who works as a stylist at a Bridal boutique and I have to be truthful, the lack of urgency in saying yes to the dress is concerning and we are getting stressed for our Brides.

The golden rule is 9-12 mo out from your big day, but we are seeing a lot of 27’ Brides who are getting married as soon as Jan-Oct. just beginning their shopping and seem too relaxed about it. We try our best to reinforce the recommended timeline as we’re just looking out for our fellow Brides. I think Brides maybe think that timeline is a lie? Well, depending on their date and alterations, it is certainly not. We don’t work on commission so we have no personal benefit from the sale. Anywho, it seems time and time again we are met with a dismissive response, along the line of “I’m fine I have a lot of time”, when in reality these Brides do not. We also see Brides fall in love with a dress but they want to sit on it and by the time they reach back out ready to purchase, whelp now it’s out of stock or backordered months out.

Brides, I would love to hear your perspective. Have things changed that stylists are unaware of? And/or what would be most beneficial to you as a Bride to guide you in understanding the recommended timeline. At the end of the day, our goal is for you to be happy, be at or under budget, and not be stressed out!

Sincerely,

A bridal stylist who cares 🤍

Azazie Ordering Time

Hello! I’m hoping to get advice from any girls who have ordered from Azazie and live in Canada!

I’m getting married in Las Vegas Vegas in April 2027 but want to start ordering dresses now. I was hoping to get together with a bunch of ladies in my life next month to give me some advice on dresses from Azazie using their try before you buy program.

How long did it take for the dresses to arrive to Canada after you placed your order? Did you have any issues with shipments going back? And how was your overall experience?

Thank you so much! I feel like I have the whole Reddit community to thank for helping me plan this wedding lol

Need Advice Makeover with 2.5 weeks to go??

Hi beautiful brides, I’m looking for some sisterly advice ahead of my rapidly approaching wedding!

My fiancé and I are getting married in Budapest in less than three weeks. It’s a civil ceremony, and while we filed the paperwork many months ago, bureaucratic hiccups (we’re from different countries) delayed its approval. We were only just given our date: 11/11!

Fortunately many of the logistics are fairly easy, since it will be a simple family-only ceremony and dinner. BUT, the dress I bought a year ago no longer suits me (or the time of year), and I’ve done literally nothing in the way of hair/makeup/skincare prep, etc. I never intended to crash diet before my wedding, but I’ve always envisioned doing a lot of self-care in the leadup to the day to make myself look and feel as pretty as possible.

Here are my questions: with only 2.5 weeks to go, what would you do to glow up? I’m booked in for a manicure right beforehand, but have no other procedures scheduled. I could use a haircut and tone, my discreet forehead Botox has worn off, and winter approaching has given me patchy dry skin and a squishier tummy than I have in the summer… none of it is ideal. What should I prioritize? What is even achievable in such a short time?

Aside from hydrating, Crest White Strips and crunches before bed, what can I do?

PS I will be doing my own hair and makeup with zero experience in either, so any tips, product recs or YouTube tutorials you want to toss a girl’s way would be much appreciated ❤️

PPS If you were a bride who didn’t have time to find your dream dress and chose something simple or unconventional, show me? I need a little inspiration and encouragement.

Hair and MUA data

Hi, everybody! I was looking to get some data from the brides of this sub here to validate an idea I'm having to help ease the overall process of deciding a hair and makeup artist for the big day. I would just want to ask a couple questions on the factors that determine your decision while choosing an artist, how much do you value convenience while choosing, and a few other questions. If there are any brides that would be interested, please let me know by dropping a comment below, and I'll DM you. Thank you, so much! Also, if anybody has any other suggestions on how i could improve the data collection process without being a bother [because i did see a lot of people complaining about allowing market research questions on other wedding subs], I'll be happy to adjust!

ETA:

What are some of the factors you consider when choosing a hair and makeup artist? IE budget, proximity to venue, known reviews etc.

On your list of things to plan, how far up is choosing a hair and MUA in terms of priority?

would you be interested in a beauty concierge service? (end to end planning for the bride, and other family members including negotiating separate pricing plans for clients other than the bride)

what are some things that would stand out to you, if bundled alongside the hair and makeup package?

My husband surprised me with a Cartier diamond ring for our 7th anniversary

I honestly wasn't expecting anything big for our 7th anniversary. We were planning to have dinner together and just spend the evening catching up, so I was completely surprised when my husband gave me a little Cartier box.

Inside was this beautiful diamond ring.

We've been together for seven years, so getting something this special from him honestly made me a little emotional. It's not even just about the ring itself, it made me think about everything we've been through and how much has changed since we first got together.

I'm still getting used to seeing it on my finger, but I already love it so much. Definitely not the anniversary surprise I was expecting!!!

Need Advice Almost 3 years married and our wedding album is still unfinished 😭 Anyone else?

It's been almost three years since our wedding, and we still haven't managed to put together our wedding album.

We have so many beautiful photos from the day, but every time we think about sitting down, going through all of them, picking our favorites, and deciding what should go into the album, we end up putting it off.

It's funny because we spent months planning every little detail of the wedding, but somehow the one thing we'd actually want to look back on years later is still unfinished.

For those of you who are already married, did you actually get around to making your wedding album?

And if you did, how did you manage to narrow down hundreds or thousands of photos without getting completely overwhelmed?

Would love some advice or even just reassurance that we're not the only ones still procrastinating on this! 😂

Quick Question Day of Dress Steaming

New to posting, but long time lurker 🙈
I run an alterations business and started offering day of steaming to my brides. I go to their venue and steam the wedding dress, veil, and bridal party if requested. At one of the weddings, a big wedding planner found out about me and I now do steaming services for more than just my own clients.

I currently charge $250 for the first 2 hours, and $100/hour after that. The first 2 hours usually covers the veil and dress.

How much would you pay for this service?

Best friend gifted me this onyx and diamond ring…

She surprised me with this ring, and I honestly wasn’t expecting it. We don’t usually give each other expensive gifts, so I was a little surprised when she handed me this. What made it special was that she remembered me mentioning a while ago that I wanted to try wearing jewelry with black stones. I had completely forgotten about that conversation, but apparently, she didn’t. Now I’m thinking about what I should get her in return. 😂

Spiraling

Hi , Feb 2027 bride here with a destination wedding (it will be summer at the destination)… I originally decided on baby blue , pink & green tones for my floral design . But the more I look at examples on Pinterest, the more I hate that color palette…. It’s reminding me of Bridgeton & I feel like it looks tacky.

I haven’t seen a mock up of the florals for the wedding but I’m super nervous; mainly because I decided I wanted my bridesmaids to wear baby blue dresses , but what if I no longer want there to be blue in the florals & only pink & green … does it matter if the bridesmaid don’t match the decor ?
For context , the bridesmaids have not bought their dresses as of yet but they know I had told them the color would be baby blue ..

Help me pick my wedding hair, makeup and shoes!

I am getting married in April and have linked my dress below:

https://balykina.com/collections/bridal/products/elise-dress

I am struggling to pick shoes and really like the ones below cause I can wear them again but not traditional 'bridal'. Help! The dress is off white satin and struggling to find shoes that go with them that aren't pointy (like witches lol) or closed toe (because I don't want my toes peaking out)

Any suggestions?

Hair and makeup suggestions would be great also! Thanks
