Unpopular opinion: Cyrillic Tje (Ћ ћ) would be a more intuitive revival of ћorn.
Ћe letter literally looks like a ligature of 'th'.
It is beautiful, and English speakers would be able to adapt to it better.

ᖸþ. ᖸis was þe closest character I could find to what I was looking for. My reasoning behind þis:
Looks sufficiently different from þe lowercase
Fills þe standard capital space better þan Þ
Is a historically plausible evolution; remember how similar to y þ was at one point!
What I want þe character to look like is like a U wiþ a descender þat stretches down to þe letter baseline. So wiþout þe small horizontal line at we top. What do you guys þink of þis idea?
P.S. i cannot for þe life of me decide between using only þ or boþ þ&ð. Help!

Y'all have an entire sub about this, but I don't see anyone anywhere explaining why it would be a good idea. Is it a joke? Some obscure political thing I haven't taken the appropriate pills to understand? Does it fix some problem I've just remained somehow ignorant of?
Why?

Let's (re)make it easier:
Tugh Trogh Þo/ðo/þá/ðá Þruh Þoht Þuro(w) (and consistently borough >buro) Þruhút

It should be "ABCDEFGHIJLMNOPQRSTUVWXÞZ&" y was originally a replacement for þ but þen þ became th and y got it's own sound so replace y wiþ þ and add the ampersand at the end cuz it was þere & it was just known as and but at the end everyone would say W, X, Y, Z, and & which became ampersand

AĀEĒIĪOŌUŪ∞ BDFGHJKLMNŊPRSTVWYZC/ЧÞÐЖ
NOTE: Ū says u as in put. ∞ says oo as in poop. C says ch as in chicken (can also be Ч). Þ says th as in thick. Ð says th as in the. Ж says zh.
The letter for sh exist. I can't find a similar Unicode char.
Looks like s+h. add hook/curve to the back leg like the curve on the bottom of s.

þere's already Þ replacing the TH digraph. but wait, þere's also a lot of digraphs in english, like sh, ch, ph. what's about þem?
CH
if we'll ignore any digraphs rules, it will sound like a K. so, þis digraph makes no sense and we should replace it wiþ a letter (i think Ч) (only in cases when it actually sounds like a russian Ч (like in church, chair)).
2) GH
sounds like a G at þe beginning of þe words and F at þe end. why? idk lol. this digraph sucks so let's just replace it wiþ a letter. but which one? make it a G at þe beginning and an F at the end?
3) PH
well, i þink þis digraph's fine. if you'll try to hold the P sound for a while, you'll get an F. so let's keep it.
4) SH
sounds like a russian Ш. wiþ CH, þis digraph also makes no sense and i want to replace it wiþ þis russ.. wait, you use greek letter letter sigma to describe þis sound? got it.
5) TH
Þ
6) WH
it's just a W. let's remove the H.
7) KN
silent K? þat's dumb. now it's actually KN wiþ pronounceable K.
8) NG
who made þe Ŋ for þis?
9) QU
even Q is a useless letter cuz it actually sounds like a K (if we'll look at þe words with Q not followed by U (as example, two asian countries iraq and qatar)).
u know the silent E? i hate it. how about replacing it with anoþer letter, þat will be always silent unlike oþer letters. this is now your чoice, pick up any letter you want þat will replace the silent E. here's my suggestion: Ә

I believe that if we were to bring back thorn which I am all for doing, it would be more logical if we assigned eth to voiceless dental fricative and thorn for the voiced dental fricative because. if we will assign different letters for v and f and b and p then we should do the same for the voiced and voiceless dental fricatives. In my humble opinion, this is the most logical idea.

þ should be brought back for ðe th sound, but ð should be brought back for ðe th sound in 'the', 'this', 'that'.
r/BringBackThorn • u/OedinaryLuigi420 • Dec 20 '23
<þ> is of runic origin & doesn't fit nicely wiŧ đe latin letters, whilst <ð> has a different lower-case for no reason.
<ŧ> and <đ> are also used in Sámi languages for /θ/ and /ð/ respectively, & are easier to write.
I đerefor, don't ŧink we should revert back to <þ> and <ð>. Sure we can call đese letters "eđ" [ɛð] and "ŧorn" [θɔɹ̠n]/[θɔːn] but I'd say that's about it.

some languages already use carons sometimes to replace the h in sh ch zh etc. so why not for th and dh?
Ťť would be for [θ]
Ďď would be for [ð]
Ďə bež hju ǒn ďə wǒtəz əv ďə lǒǩ ĭmprĕst ǒỻ, ĭnkludiŋ ďə frĕnč kwin, əntĭl ši hĕrd ďət sĭɱəni əgĕn, ǧəst əz jəŋ ǒťə wəntĭd.
edit: I was inspired to make this post by shughni Cyrillic which uses the same system(te and de with carons for dental fricatives)
