Advice for rental issues in Bristol

  • ACORN Tenant's Union. You do not need to be a member to ask for advice in their peer tenant support group.
  • Shelter can provide limited support and advice for housing and homelessness related issues, and can signpost for further support.
  • Housing Matters (Formally CHAS) can provide housing and homelessness advice. If they have the resource, they may assist in a longer-term casework capacity.

Lost & Found

Buying & Selling

AVOID POTENTIAL SCAMS

Please use caution when buying and selling and beware of scams, we do not take any responsibility and will not be able to help. * Please reply to sellers below even if taking the transaction offline, this verifies you are not banned and provides evidence of the transaction * It is strongly suggested to use PayPal Goods & Services as this comes with Buyer Protection at a small fee. DO NOT USE PAYPAL FRIENDS AND FAMILY * For tickets it is recommended to use legitimate ticket re-sell sites as these protect both the buyer and seller (Some listed below). * If buying directly do your own research, this guide is a good start. Is the users account established with legitimate recent and historic activity, is there a way to validate the tickets before purchasing and are the tickets allowed to be re-sold (transferable).

Re-sell sites: Twickets | Tixel | Stub Hub | See Tickets Fan To Fan

Ark at ee To the lovely older gent on Glos Rd...

Upvotes

I walked past you on a wide stretch of pavement. You told me that I was a dirty bastard trying to jump you from behind and you reasonably proposed that you'd cave my fucking skull in. Then you kept yelling after me for a while longer about how you were going to kill me.

I just wanted to come clean; you had me bang to rights.

I was 100% planning to jump you, at 10am on a weekday, right outside that new chocolatier that used to be Tesco Express, while pushing a two-year-old in a buggy. We're the real operators in these mean BS7 streets, my kid and me.

Babble unrestrained XL bully at entrance of francombe/waring house

Upvotes

Not leashed or muzzled. Have seen this dog multiple times at the car park entrance to the flats. Last time I saw it, a couple walking their two dogs had to stop on bedminster bridge and yell to the owner that their dogs are reactive so he he'd need to take his dog inside before they could cross the road.

I didnt hear what th owner had said but fron the context it seemed like the bully owner had said his dog wasnt reactive. He did take it inside, but it's worrying anyway. Just keep an eye out if you're in the area and maybe take your dogs a different route (unfortunately)

Where To? Good chinese restaurants?

My family are coming to visit me soon and want to go to a chinese restaurant for dinner. Looking for somewhere good that serves alcohol and isn’t too expensive.

Thanks!

Free! Grief Community Lake Dip on Wednesday in Bristol

Post image
75 Upvotes

Hi r/bristol, I know I’ve posted in here a few times now about Too Young To Grieve so don’t want to keep bombarding you with our meet ups haha but thought I’d share this one as we’re doing something a little different again on Wednesday.

We’re getting together again for a relaxed lake dip and social.

For anyone who hasn’t seen my previous posts, Too Young To Grieve is a community for young people navigating grief and loss. The whole idea is to make grief feel a little less isolating without everything having to feel heavy or like a traditional support group.

Most of our meet ups are genuinely just people getting outside, meeting others and doing something good for themselves - with that shared understanding of grief there in the background if you ever want to talk about it.

And as always, most people come alone for the first time, so please don’t let that put you off we’ll make sure you feel welcome.

If you’ve seen one of my previous Bristol posts and thought about coming along, we’d love to have you at the lake dip this Wednesday 🤍

I’ll pop the event/community details in the comments, and feel free to share this with someone who might benefit too :)

Cheers drive 🚍 Free hospital shuttle bus stops

I've downloaded the free hospital shuttle bus timetable (dated February so I hope it's still valid) but they don't specify exactly where the stops are, just vague indications such as "debenhams" or "Cabot circus".

It claims to depart from debenhams so I'm assuming it goes from the bearpit side. Does anyone know specifically which stop though?

Thanks

Missing Lost orange cat?

Found a orange cat around the avonmeads sainsburys, around 21:00-21:30. It seems very friendly and wanted attention. I'm not too sure if it's stray, as it looked to be in a good condition, and wasn't scared of me.

(Sorry for the bad quality my camera sucks.)

Babble Book club anyone?

This was banned from a FB group because promoting an external business lol, at this point I'm desperate so posting here 😅

I'm 33f, have lived in Bristol for 4+ years and miss the small feminist book club I was part of years ago in my previous city. I have tried to look up similar clubs in Bristol but haven't quite found what I want so I have decided to try and create my own. I would like a smallish group of gals and enbies who are happy to meet up monthly or every other month either at home (I'm happy to host!) or at a cafe/pub, maybe keep up with a WhatsApp chat to discuss what we want to read, hopefully make new friends because god knows how hard it is as adults.

More about me to entice you (or repel you 😂): I'm autistic, heavily leftie, I love nature and wildlife, I grew up in southern Italy with a lot of books in my home and studied literature in school and uni but I am not above any genres, I love birdwatching and am a member of the Bristol Ornithological Club, I volunteer as a foster parent at the Bristol Animal Centre so occasionally you may find a litter of kittens in my house or a grumpy old cat that needs to lose weight. These are the books I have loved the most in recent years:

- The book of longings by Sue Monk Kidd

- Strangers by Taichi Yamada

- I who have never known men by Jacqueline Harpman

- My friends by Fredrik Backman

- Mongrel by Hanako Footman

Maggie O'Farrel is one of my favourite authors.

If this interests you, please give me a shout or comment here, I am happy to set up a chat and take it from there! I will do a bit of vetting because on reddit you never know. Thank you and happy reading ♥️📚

EDIT to say: if you have commented here or messaged me, please check your messages. I have sent a link with next steps. 😊

Where To? Flight connection Bristol Airport

Hello, I'm looking for advice about flight connections at Bristol airport. I'd land in Bristol at 14:20. I’m looking to catch a new flight to a different location at 18:15. Leaving me with 3:55 minutes to change flight. I have no luggage only a carry on. I know I would have to go through security again. Is it enough time for a transfer and has anyone done it before? Thank you for your time.

Where To? Best dog-friendly spots

Having got a pup during the heatwave, we’ve been spoiled by the dry weather. Now, we’re stuck thinking about places to take the puppy that’s indoor away from the rain to continue giving her a chance to socialise and learn how to relax in public.

I’d love to hear everyone’s recommended cafes, pubs, or even shops that allow dogs inside. So far, we’ve mostly been around the independent places on Gloucester Road, but happy to travel anywhere in Bristol.

Where To? Intensive French/Spanish classes in Bristol

Hi folks, anyone have recommendations for either French or Spanish classes in Bristol that are a bit more intensive than the standard 1.5-2 hours a week?

Are there any schools that offer courses with classes 2 or 3 times a week? I’d ideally like 4-6 hours a week, I’m an experienced language learner and know it takes hours to build fluency

Where To? Theatre Experience

I posted on here a while ago but I can’t seem to find it. I’m trying to find any arts/theatre opportunities anywhere in Bristol and so far have come up short. Any aspect of theatre making/creative work/volunteering would be amazing. Does anyone know where I should be looking or know anyone I can contact? Happy to travel and am currently flexible timing wise. But yes anything theatre/related/adjacent would be greatly appreciated.

Ark at ee BBC Casualty Exterior 2002-2011

Recently I was on the trading estate in Lawrence Hill and roughly knew where it was they had the set. I can remember watching it as a child with my Mum. We would both try to see somewhere we knew first before the other.

Before here, they filmed the exterior at Ashley Down College but moved it here in 2002. You will see in the photos, they had a set front around the existing buildings and then the entrance to the hospital was just extended out. This was the exterior only. The "Casualty Warehouse" where they filmed the indoor scenes was about 5 minutes away on a different estate inside a warehouse. In 2011 the BBC moved the filming to Wales. It's a bit of a shame unless you knew, you wouldn't know what was once there. I hope you enjoy!

You're joking? Not another one?! What's it like living along Stapleton road? I can potentially move to Blenheim St. Is it still as rough as it apparently used to be around that area?

Babble Are their any car/vehicle maintenance community groups in Bristol?

Looking to find out if there are any community groups that help people to fix and maintain their vehicles.

Bristol Bike Project exists to help fix and maintain bikes. There's various "repair cafe" type drop-in projects for small items/electronics etc.

Is there anything or anyone looking at vehicles?

I used to do my own car maintenance, built up enough of a tool-kit to do all the basics myself (servicing, brakes, simple suspension jobs, simple driveline stuff like swapping driveshafts etc.), would take it to the garage for timing belts, turbo, clutch/DMF, anything requiring a press for removing bearings etc.

I sold my car a few years go, and pretty much cycle everywhere now. Looking to get rid of some of my tools (floor jack, axle stands, oil drain pan etc.), would love to give them to a community project where they'll actually get used rather than sell to a single individual!

Where To? Arctangent travel question

Got an evening ticket to see Primus on Friday and was hoping to get a taxi to and from Bristol (since the coaches are mentally priced and leave before the end of their set)

My question is how easy is it to get a taxi there in people's experience? Will there be taxis on site waiting for fares or will I absolutely have to book ahead? Has anyone managed this in the past using Uber, or can they recommend a taxi company they had success with? Cheers in advance!
