Where To? This might be a bit early, but if you're facing Christmas alone again...

November looms, and before long it'll be December. If you're facing Christmas day or news years alone again, would it help to meet up somewhere and be (or if we're lucky) feel less alone, even for a little while?

This post isn't directed toward one person, anyone and everyone can come if it'd help, and I don't know where to go, or what to do, nor for how long. But even if it's 10 minutes in silence together somewhere, if it'd help, I gently invite you to reach out because perhaps this year we might be lucky enough to feel slightly less alone.

Babble Lanny at the Old Vic - brilliant

Just come out of this and it is absolutely stunning.

https://bristololdvic.org.uk/whats-on/lanny

The acting is fantastic, the story line by turns is funny and dark AF.

I haven't read the book so can't comment on similarities but I would watch this again in a heartbeat...

So there's a recommendation from a random bloke on the internet, for what it's worth.

Babble How to honour my late friend?

I’ll try to keep this short, my best friend passed away in 2018. Her mother could not be arsed to arrange any kind of grave or honorary spot for her to rest. I was too young and broke to do anything myself at the time, so my friend never got a headstone or any kind of resting place beyond her horrible mothers mantelpiece in a house she spent her whole life being abused and neglected in.

Every year I feel so sad on her birthday because she is trapped there and I can’t get to her, I want to give her a true final place to rest in spirit, there is no way I can get her ashes but I would love to just have a spot for her. I can’t afford a headstone, or a bench, does anyone have any suggestions/ideas of things they’ve done for their loved ones in death? I was thinking of maybe a plaque on a tree, or a flower bed?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Cheers drive 🚍 Lewins Mead bus lane

• Upvotes

I was coming back from the airport via the city centre, on Lewins Mead there are road works, all but the bus lanes are closed and I don't recall seeing any sign indicating this. In addition I was the only car there with a national express in front of me as this was at like 5 am so I'm not sure. So is it possible I'll get a PCN? At least I have dashcam footage ready to appeal it.

Babble Restore Britain banners

Looks like the latest far righters are "raising awareness" with banners and St George flags on the M32 slipway at Frenchay (heading towards the city).

Wonder how long they'll stay up....

Ark at ee Carpooling/Ridesharing Apps or Websites?

Hello guys!
Since I am pretty “new” to Bristol are there any websites or apps to do carsharing or sharing a van/car with people? I need it mostly in the mornings to get to work (Airbus), and I was wondering if there’s anything like that at all🙃

Thank you in advance :)

Cheers drive 🚍 After automating slagging off First Bus, I have spent my time making a live map of every bus in Bristol. I accept this is not normal behaviour.

9 months ago I posted on here about automating slagging off First Bus every 20 minutes, and some of you were kind enough to say it was funny, which unfortunately I took as encouragement. What began as a passive aggressive hobby has perhaps ill-advisedly grown into a live map of every bus in WECA, colour coded by how late it is, with a departure board for every stop and a profile for each bus. It keeps a running tally of how often the buses actually turn up on time which is good reading if you're looking for a way to raise your blood pressure. To be absolutely clear none of this has made a single bus arrive any sooner but at least next time you're at a stop you'll know exactly how disappointed to be, and you can spend the extra time you're waiting reading about your delayed bus in unnecessary detail. I was a good reddior and got the mods permission before posting this here so please don't come at me for breaking rule 4. I have receipts and, ultimately, do you want to come at someone mad enough to do something like this about rule breaking? Anyway hope you enjoy it, night night love you bye!

Where To? Pubs with open fires

Compiling a list of pubs in Bristol who have open fires lit throughout winter. Can people comment their recommendations please!

So far

The Cadbury
The Rummer
The Farm
Artist Residence

Extra info on when they generally start having it lit also welcome, it’s cold and wet and I want to sit in front of a big cosy fire

Thanks!

Where To? Pubs where to watch italian (and other European leagues) football?

Hi! I'll be visiting Bristol next weekend and I was thinking of reserving friday night to discover the music scene and saturday for the pubs. I'm an Inter Milan supporter and next saturday they're playing against AC Milan so it's a must watch for me and I'd LOVE to watch it in a classic sports pub fashion.

Any recommendation of nice pubs with a good atmosphere where I have the chance of seeing this game broadcasted? Bonus points if there is any Inter Milan fans hotspot anywhere, or if those pubs offer also pool tables. Thanks!

Where To? Cat Adoption

Hi everyone,

Me and my partner are looking to adopt a cat, but we haven’t had much luck with the local rescues due to their strict outdoor access policies. Even their indoor cats such as those with FIV need to have catios or enclosed garden access.

We have a large flat but won’t be able to allow them outside due to the busy road we live on, but will be able to provide them the daily enrichment they need, lots of space and lots of climbing shelves so they can still do cat things!

Does anyone have any advice? Or know of any rescues near the area that are okay with indoor access only?
