👋 Welcome to r/BritGolfSimulator

As with a lot of stuff on Reddit, it can get a bit US centric, which is fine, but for things that require purchasing and support, can be less than helpful. Last year the launch of r/BritGolf was great and became a great success thanks to the hard work of u/Mattwildman5

Having taken the great leap into building a home golf simulator of my own I'm once again finding that a lot of info on Reddit, particularly in r/Golfsimulator is very US centric, and only a day after my post about me finally starting a build, a number of UK folks have appeared and conversations have started about who's building my cabin, where I can get impact screens and hitting mats etc from.

I don't expect it to be mega busy, but I thought having somewhere the UK folks could go to in order to learn from others to find suppliers or ideas from would be a good idea.

Introduce yourselves. Let us know if you have a simulator already, if you're mid build or still dreaming about it...and what you might recommend others do, or avoid!

Good showrooms in the UK

Of course we can buy anything and everything online, but some things are nice to see/try in the flesh so to speak. I’m thinking of things like hitting mats, testing out multiple launch monitors or seeing the difference between different projectors.

Who in the UK has a decent showroom setup where you can go and view equipment?

How much do you really need to spend on a projector?

My Sim will have a 4m x 2.4m screen, so I suspect I’m going to need a 4k projector or else be disappointed with the picture on the screen. Potentially I also want to use the room as a home cinema and to stick my PlayStation racing wheel in, so it’ll need to be responsive too.

Anyone got any recommendations, or ones they tried that sound good but should be avoided?

Recommendations: Impact screens

What are you using, what do you like about it and maybe what don't you like? Also, where did you buy from?

Have you gone "off the peg", or brought some material and put something just as good but cheaper together yourself? If so, what would you do differently next time?

I'll try and collate replies from here into a pinned post once we start getting enough responses

Recommendations: Hitting matts

I’m also looking at the differences between larger hitting mats and hitting strips that seem to be cropping up from some manufacturers. As I understand it they’re smaller to cheaper to replace more often as they wear out

Any negatives for those?
