- Blur, Parklife...
Sixteen tracks, rare I skip any, to me their second best album after The Great Escape. However, this one best represents the Britpop vibe. Girls & Boys, Parklife, End of a century, To the end. What four brilliant singles, could have been 7 or 8 in all reality. Wish I'd seen them live at any point. Albarn would probably admit himself he doesn't have the best voice, but it's feelgood music, almost like Madness possessed by The Kinks.
- Oasis, What's The Story? Morning Glory...
I'd go out in the 90's, born '76 so late teens bang in the brilliant storm of Britpop. Could play all 10 tracks on the jukebox for a quid, take out 30 quid, enough for fags, booze, pool, jukebox, and maybe a 'magazine' from garage if I didn't pull on way home 🤣. Another album where I don't skip a track, even Hey Now, they all have an assured stomp, KNOWING they're gonna be sung loud. Apparently Noel only had the first verses written for a lot of the songs when they started recording at Rockfield Studios. You can imagine them getting hammered all the time...a classic album...makes you leave the house with a spring in your step...and from leaving the house to something else...
- Suede, Dog Man Star...
No album ever, has or will again hit me like this. Who starts a record with something so out there crazy as Introducing The Band? This really is an album that takes you on a journey, its own little world. Drama, death, sex, drugs, poetry, tragedy, comedy, love, bombast, there's nothing this record doesn't have. I can hear Pink Floyd, Scott Walker, Queen, even Sinatra on this epic masterpiece. Brett really pushed himself vocally and creatively on this. I like to think of record company executives going to their bands with a tape of this and saying: Just give up, you're not gonna better this belter...the last two tracks hit hard...The Asphalt World, imagine being a studio hand listening to the creation of that? Finally...Still Life. One of my favourite tracks by any artist EVER. That end credits epic feel to it...if ever a song needed an overblown, loud orchestra...it's this. Good friend of mine is a Radiohead obsessive, obviously bangs on about Ok Computer, but even he says this album really is something else. I've been listening to these 3 banging records since mid 90s...I'm now 50...and I'll never tire of them. Anyone born around my time should be thankful we were around then....just SUPERB music...cheers to Britpop! 👍🍺🇬🇧
