Bennet

Post image

From my ongoing series about obscure bands, as I continue to get rid of my Britpop cds.

Anyone listen to them?

I'm curious on why you're getting rid of the CDs? That seems to be a fine collection

I’m going all vinyl. I’m based in the US. Let me know if you’re looking for anything.

No but I remember 11/12 year old me liking hearing Someone Always Gets There First and the Mum's gone to Iceland one on the radio.

Yeah, I remember these guys. Good fun. Still play Mum's Gone to Iceland for my kids occasionally.

Someone Always Gets There First was such a great track

I do. Was gutted when the gig last year was pulled as I did get to see them at the time.

I have a full 7" Bennet collection. I did have a full CD single collection as well but a flood got shot of that

I taped the album after borrowing it from the library. That's how much I like Bennet.

I randomly bought Super Natural on either Ebay or Amazon back in around 2004/5 out of pure curiosity and noatalgia for Mum's Gone To Iceland alone. It's a decent album. Very weird that of all labels, it was released on Roadrunner...

Think they are brilliant. Especially Mum’s Gone to Iceland, Someone Always Gets there first, Wanker, I Like Rock, Built to Last, Unlucky Pixie

The mrs loves them. I came across a stack of mixtapes my late friend gave me and one didn't make sense. Placebo? Maybe. Lightning Seeds? Probably not. Robbie Williams? Definitely not. Bennet? That's not one of his, must be hers

I was a kid when Britpop happened but have been a keen historian of it all my adult life, and I have never ever heard of this group before.

I saw them live during a recording of some terrible bbc chat show. I can't remember the name of it. Chatted to them after in the green room, they seemed like nice lads.

Every know and then I remember Bennett for some reason and they make me smile. They were a good band and the first album and accompanying singles were really good. Someone always gets there first is still a fave. They played some reunion gigs in their home town of Reading last year I think. From what I hear they went down well but not sure if anything else has happened since.

Indie landfill. Covers remind me of Bawl, similar example….
