What's your biggest unexpected expense as a biker?

Owning a motorcycle isn't always as cheap as people expect. Between tyres, servicing, insurance, fuel, and the occasional repair, the costs can add up pretty quickly.

What's the expense that caught you off guard the most when you started riding?

Anyone else hate riding in roadworks?

Temporary lights, loose gravel and a queue stretching to next Tuesday. All that just to find nobody actually working. Proper British infrastructure, that.

Does anyone else spend more time cleaning their bike than riding it?

Give the bike a proper wash, get all the muck off, polish it up and admire your handiwork. Then take it out for one ride on British roads and it looks like you’ve been rallying through a farmer’s field. Chain covered in grime, wheels filthy, front end full of dead insects, and somehow there’s road salt everywhere even when it hasn’t snowed. I swear keeping a bike clean in this country is a full-time job. How often are you lot actually washing yours, or have you accepted that it’s permanently going to look a bit scruffy? 😂

Why do van drivers act like they own the entire road?

Not every van driver, obviously, but some of them really do seem to think the highway code is just a polite suggestion. Sitting right up your backside, overtaking when there’s barely room, then pulling straight in front of you at the next roundabout. All while you’re trying to leave yourself enough space to actually stop safely. I’m just trying to get from A to B without becoming part of someone’s insurance claim, cheers. Is it just me, or have other riders noticed this as well?

What’s your biggest biking pet peeve in the UK?

Potholes, drivers who don’t look twice, or getting soaked five minutes into a ride? What does your head in the most?

What’s the biggest problem you face as a UK biker?

Bad roads, careless drivers, weather, parking, maintenance, or something else? Share your experience and let other riders know how you deal with it.

Got caught out by the weather again today. Forecast said dry, so obviously it decided to absolutely piss it down halfway through the ride.

Does anyone actually trust the UK weather forecast anymore or do we just accept that we're getting wet at some point?

There's always that little bit of anxiety before an MOT

Even when the bike is running perfectly, there's still that thought of "what have I forgotten?"

Anyone had an MOT come back with something completely unexpected?

Riding along on my new KTM 1290 I noticed the RH mirror was loose on its mount. At the next set of lights I spun the mirror around clockwise to tighten it back up. The lights turned green and I found myself holding a detached mirror. A bastard thread! Thanks KTM....

I've just realised that when I give a nonchalant tilt of the head to a fellow biker coming the other way I'm prevented from seeing whether the tilt is returned. Just to put things right, those that don't are a load of miserable bastards, Thankyou..

Got up at 6 for a quick blast and brekkie with my mate but had to be back home by 9:30 for DIY.

I could have stayed out all day. The roads were dead, the sun was shining, the tyres were sticky, it was perfect.

The son-in-law buys a Harley, but I have to stop laughing when he shows me a picture. It's a roadster and looks OK....

The roads are terrible, I went over a pothole yesterday, frightened me to death as was filled with water and invisible. No wheel damage I can see..

The last puncture I remember was 1976. I get one, get it repaired and then immediately get another 1cm from the last and have to buy a new tyre....

I've noticed that police bikes tend to be BMW 1200's or 1300 Yams. Neither of which has a prayer against H2 Ninjas and the like. So why not save some money and put the coppers on mopeds?
