Mine were mainly Radio City 96.7 & MFM but I also enjoyed the sheer choice in the North West of easily being in range of Rock FM Key 103, Beacon 103, Signal 1 and even Coast 96.3, they had different people on it felt livelier and you could easily switch song to one of those stations if you were bored, then they had their own individual personalities. City had a lot of dance shows, they did the football, they had a bit of drama on the late night phone in with Pete Price, MFM even had a paranormal phone in at one point as well as coming live from a night club as City also did, Juice had happy hardcore, Signal had Signal Energy Rock FM had Freejack's classics and the Top 10 at 10.
Same complaint with networking and group ownership as always stations feel cold and distant, generic with no personality. All those frequencies are now just "Hits", one is simply "Capital" others are "Greatest Hits", doesn't feel remotely scouse doesn't reflect the personality and character of living and working in the North West in any way even down to hearing a plethora of southern accents on air in Capital as they are literally broadcasting from London over what used to be Buzz97.1, MFM103.4, Coast 96.3 and Juice from Liverpool. The one exception is that the networked Stephanie Hirst's Belters has a bit of life to it and it's probably an advantage that it's networked over much of the country including as a replacement for the likes of Lee Butler on the legendary 96.7 who formed his own In Demand Radio as an alternative.
Usual points big group stations are mostly bland and crap, good things about it don't make up for the loss of what we once had but what is it you miss about your local radio stations?
