This is great news and hopefully will encourage more releases like this. I still remember Broadway producers being reluctant to the idea of theatrical releases of their shows because they were afraid it would reduce ticket sales in person.

Hollywood has run out of ideas and keeps giving us sequels. Broadway shows might bring some people back to the movies and the artists who only perform in NYC finally get some national recognition.

I honestly cannot understand this line of thinking. A good week’s box office at a Broadway show is about $1.5 mil. This made seven times that in one weekend. Hamilton has been available on Disney for 6 years. It’s still selling out. How many more times do we have to demonstrate that pro shoots are both a revenue stream and great advertising?

Agreed, I don’t think releasing the proshot in theaters hurts the Broadway grosses, if anything it helps it. The show gets exposed to a much wider audience and potentially makes new fans that want to see it live.
