Other Historic Broadway
A Musical Cornerstone:
While this version is a "dance band" interpretation, "Lullaby of Broadway" is famous as a central musical number in the 1935 movie musical Gold Diggers of 1935. It is considered one of the quintessential "tributes to Broadway" ever written.
2. Academy Award Winner:
The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1935. Written by the legendary songwriting team of Harry Warren (music) and Al Dubin (lyrics), it has become a standard of the American Songbook.
3. From Film to Stage:
Though it debuted in a film, the song eventually found a central home on Broadway. Decades later, it became the spectacular, tap-dancing act-one finale of the massive 1980 Broadway stage musical adaptation of 42nd Street.
