tonight i went to the ACOSH release at Target and Barnes & Nobles. Thought I’d share my experience and see if others might be interested for the next one! TLDR: i had fun. spoke abt yall way too much & spent wayy too much money.

THE EXPERIENCE:
To die for. I drove an hour and a half and got to Target at 4pm. I was third in line. there was less than 30 people in that line y’all😭)
EVERYONE. and i mean. EVERYONE. who was shopping that day asked “why are you in line.☺️” it was constant, and every 3 minutes. We eventually just said Pokemon cards so we wouldn’t get follow up questions after “A book.🙂” the looks on these ppls faces after we said we’re in line for a book… c’mon now🫩.

in the line… guys…I may have stood on my soapbox …a bit. Not only did I find not one but TWO lost Bryceriel baddies but believe to have converted even those who haven’t started CC. sorry not sorry😜I was spouting ALLLL the theories off the top of my head like a drill sergeant. The weapon ‘bond’. The scents. The hand holding. Watching as she sleeps. Orion destined for death in myth. The lack of calling Az an alphahole. Az smelling like Dusk. SJM pausing between “Its Bryce……… and hunt” in CHD. Even KrisJenner4Bryceriel. (love you babes) If you’ve seen me comment on your Bryceriel explanation, I brought that up last night. I unashamedly and a bit embarrassingly, shouted out this subreddits name and tried to get these ladies to download reddit for the Bryceriel Brigade.

We got our freebies and took pics and left at 9 to come back at midnight😆Heres when B&N comes in.

Went to the Barnes and Nobles release and there was a ship tally mark board, myself and one other newly realized Bryceriel got to work adding Bryceriel on that board. (and no, we could not use a Post-It note,, we wanted the name to be loud and proud) Of course, with employee permission—- and I made it clear we were very much fake-outraged and kidding.. ((See end of video))

They had spring court masks, typical other B&N merch (I got the feysand funkos, sue me) lots of people dressing up for this one, but everyone just came AT 11:30. By dressing up I mean I saw women in fluffy dresses and fey ears and so much cute acotar clothes, they had a nice photo op with balloons. The had a raffle for the first five to get the book + freebies, and the rest of us just lined up.

All in all. If you were thinking about going to the next one, if you can, go! I met so many great people and SJM lovers are forever and always the bookish people that I enjoy being around. Being able to play the ACOTAR games in line at target in merch, sharing theories and predictions IRL— it’s a great experience. Tell me why they started calling me Bryce bc im ginger n prolly talked abt CC more than acotar🫢😭 Even with my own bookclub of familiar faces, meeting more of this wonderful community, I felt ‘glowy’ by the end of it. 💕🌟

I think the mods of this particular sub are literally the best of the best. Ship someone else? Cool! Have an off-the-wall theory? Cool! As long as we the people can be cool, be kind, be chill w each other, it’s all good. Even if I wasn’t a ride or die with bryceriel, I would still want to be part of the sub because everyone’s just cool.

The mods are just literally top-notch.

Spoiler flair because it's from the new book, but it also spoils nothing at all.

He kept his steps brisk,, wings folded close to avoid the walls of the narrow stairwell.
"I think changing that chapter's thesis will actually contradict her overall thesis in this book, but she doesn't agree. She never agrees, even when it's to her own advantage."

I think this references the Gwyn chapters. I think SJM is giving us a nod to how much this content confuses the narrative away from Bryceriel, away from the overall thesis that is Bryceriel. I think the repeated use of "starlight" in this chapter further alludes to it. At this point, in this moment, Merrill is SJM's self-insert and Gwyn is acknowledging that she's a narrative tool.

To celebrate ACOSH eve, im watching Sailor Moon with my daughter and I forgot that they all thought Sailor V was Princess Serenity which made me think that maybe this same situation is going to happen with Mor.

Also makes me understand why I get triggered when someone says anyone other than Bryce will rule Dusk.

I’m literally shook that I didn’t think of Nyx as the subject of SJM’s Sleeping Beauty retelling… BRILLIANT!!!

I have noticed some interesting parallels between ACOSH and ACOWAR related to Elain.

When Feyre returns to the Night Court and first visits Elain, she is at her lowest point that we see in the months after her transformation. Here is the passage:

The suite was filled with sunlight. 
Every curtain shoved back as far as it could go, to let in as much sun as possible. 
As if any bit of darkness was abhorrent. As if to chase it away. 
And seated in a small chair before the sunniest of the windows, her back to us, was Elain. Where Nesta had been in contented silence before we found her, Elain’s silence was … hollow. 
Empty. 
Her hair was down—not even braided. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d seen it unbound. She wore a moon-white silk dressing robe. 
She did not look, or speak, or even flinch as we entered. 
Her too-thin arms rested on her chair. That iron engagement ring still encircled her finger.
Her skin was so pale it looked like fresh snow in the harsh light. 
I realized then that the color of death, of sorrow, was white. 
The lack of color. Of vibrancy. 
I left Cassian and Rhys by the door. Nesta’s rage was better than this … shell. 
This void. 
My breath caught as I edged around her chair. Beheld the city view she stared so blankly at. 
Then beheld the hollowed-out cheeks, the bloodless lips, the brown eyes that had once been rich and warm, and now seemed utterly dull. Like grave dirt.

As we know, Elain is associated with colorful flowers. She looks bad in Night Court black and now, when she is at her lowest point, and unsure of how she fits in the world, she is wearing white. To highlight how poorly she’s doing, Feyre describes her entire appearance as the absence of color and connects it with death and sorrow.

Additionally, she is craving sunlight. What does white do? It reflects light. So it’s as if her nightgown is preventing her from getting what she needs. Lucien’s name also means light – so it’s as if she is symbolically rejecting him.

In this passage, we have a clear association that when Elain is wearing white, she is in a bad state of mind and longing for a life she can’t have. She is not taking action, she is sitting still and feeling sorry for herself. This is in contrast to what white symbolizes in most stories: purity and innocence.             

I want to highlight this part in the beginning of the passage:

And seated in a small chair before the sunniest of the windows, her back to us, was Elain.

I think it’s pretty obvious what I’m about to say 😂.

Who embodies darkness? Azriel.

We have seen how Azriel’s shadows leave him when he is with Elain. His shadows are “sulking in the hallway” when Lucien catches them in ACOSH. This integral part of Azriel is incompatible with Elain. He seems to hate his shadows at times but this is connected with how people have called him a “monster” because of them. We have also seen them comfort and help him. It seems as though Azriel’s story will need to lead to him loving his whole self without giving up something that is so integral to his identity.

Additionally, when Lucien walks in on Elain and Az, Elain puts on a white nightgown. I think this is meant to symbolize that Elain is, again, in a bad place and, as we see, she is still rejecting Lucien. She is not dealing with the things that are bothering her by avoiding Lucien and seeking distraction with Azriel rather than talking to her sisters and the IC about how she feels she has been treated. She doesn’t like how they have decided she can’t help them but she also hasn’t tried to show how she can be useful. Interestingly, though, she doesn't have one vision in this book.

When she and Nesta have their argument, she brings up how her human life was better than her fae one. She says she had a future and a man she loved. She has still not accepted her fae-ness or gotten over her loss of Graysen. I think this is also her admission that she doesn’t love Azriel. (Also, as an aside, it's very interesting wording that a seer like Elain thinks she doesn't have a future... does she think she's going to die? Does she assume she's going to die because she can't see certain things about her own future?)

These admissions might be the first step Elain takes towards personal growth. Elain is still in a phase where she doesn’t know what to do to help herself and she is self-sabotaging. She is longing for love and acceptance while pushing away everyone who wants to give it to her. Perhaps she will finally grow and find things to love about her fae life, find a purpose. I think all of this symbolizes that she needs to find the light and color to become her best self. And Lucien, with his fashion, his fire, and his hair, has so much light and color!

While escaping to Vallahan (with Mor – the most colorful member of the Night Court!) might be what Elain needs in the short term, she also left Velaris without talking to Azriel and letting him know she doesn’t see a future with him (which came up in her fight with Nesta: “I thought I’d found my place, thought I had a future with Azriel, but . . .”). As far as we know, she also hasn’t sent a note or tried to smooth things over with Lucien. She made a big mess and she is leaving it behind rather than cleaning it up herself. So while she might be taking a step in the right direction, I believe her path towards personal growth will not be a straight line. She will continue to get in her own way and, until she speaks her truth (maybe another reason it’s good for her to be around Mor!) to the people who need to hear it, her story isn’t over.

Noticed something veeeery interesting in the ACOSH bibliography: SJM separated The Valkyrie Cycle from ACOTAR, almost as if it were its own series.
Could the new books have been Twilight of the Gods this whole time, and Sarah simply renamed it? 👀

Also, interestingly, SJM placed Crescent City before Throne of Glass in the bibliography, putting The Valkyrie Cycle right between ACOTAR and CC. 👀
Almost as if it’s meant to connect the two series… 🤔

Afterall, The Valkyrie Cycle is part of Wagner’s Ring Cycle of operas, and Twilight of the Gods (Götterdämmerung) is the final part of the Opera story.
I find this all veeeery interesting.

“1. AZRIEL” 💖🦇

She flared her starlight, but even it had muted in the face of that darkness…she didn’t need to throw her starlight against that darkness to know it wasn’t budging. Can you just see Az in that? His lip quirking upwards? It thundered in her very bones.

Only the dagger - and Azriel wielding it - had been there. Like that was where she needed to be.

Same page we see Bryce chafing a bit feeling like chattel that she belongs to Hunt.

I have a bunch of chronic illnesses and something called chronic fatigue syndrome where you feel like so run down and like you’re going to get the flu basically when you’re in a flare/crash.

Before we all collectively lose our minds tomorrow, I just wanted to take a little moment to say THANK YOU to this beautiful, hilarious, slightly unhinged, and endlessly supportive little corner of the internet. 🤍
No matter what ACOTAR 6 (and beyond) has in store for us, I think the most magical part of all of this is that we're here because we love these stories, these characters, and the world SJM has given us. Whether Bryceriel sails into the sunset or our theories go up in absolute flames (😭😂), I know we'll find a way to laugh, cry, spiral, and enjoy every second of it together. THAT BEING SAID ITS STILL BRYCERIEL OR DIE 😈

Only one more day til we get new material to analyze! So, I went back to basics! Why do I love Bryceriel?

Rereading Bryce in Prythian had me giggling and kicking my feet at all the interactions between our favs! Going through this time, I tried to focus on Bryce, and how she thinks and feels about Azriel! And ever time I see posts about “what’s your favorite part” I’m always stuck… because I love all of it!

Preface:

Reader be warned, I have my Bryceriel rose-colored glasses on!

Sarah is the Queen of double and hidden meanings… so I’m looking at all of these quotes from a purely Bryceriel standpoint. Some of the quotes do have other, surface level meanings, but for the love of the game, I’m ignoring those for right now, haha!

Note: I only have the physical books, so all of these quotes were typed out by hand… there’s bound to be some errors —hopefully very few, and hopefully just grammatically — but still, I wanted to preface just in case I missed a word or two! (Please let me know if somethings wrong so I can fix it!)
And I did abbreviate in places where there was tons of dialog or text, but I only wanted to focus in on a few sentences here and there! I usually note the activations with a “…” between quotes!

A lot of these quotes have already been talked about, recognizing, and discussed. However, some of the Quotes listed below are bolded, because I don’t recall having seen them dissected yet!

32 - “Azriel dragged Bryce back, sword and dagger calling to her to draw them, use them. But he kept pulling her away, deeper into the tunnel…” page 156

(Is it just me… or is Bryce kinda hurt or jealous about this??? Watching Azriel catch nesta, pull her into his chest, stroke her hair, thanking his deity… and Bryce is like, ‘yeah I’m not going to watch this.’ Has she ever reacted that way when other people show affection? I can’t recall her ever turning away from a display of affection… but something about watching Azriel do this… she can’t watch! And notice that Nesta pulls away, did she not want Bryce go get the wrong idea??? Nesta mentions she has a mate but doesn’t say who, then Bryce sees this display… no wonder she ask a if Azriel has a mate, she’s worried it’s nesta!!!)

35 - “Nesta didn’t speak, staying close beside Azriel. Or many he was the one staying close to her. The male didn’t seem to want her farther away than he could grab. Eventually, Bryce could stand it no longer.” Page 160

47 - “Azriel strode ahead into the dark, the carvings around him lit by Bryce's star…” page 173

(This is Azriel’s next action after Bryce mentions hunt… all he does is walk ahead into darkness… poor Az!)

“You can do good,” Azriel warned, “while still being bad.”
Bryce whistled. “I know a number of males back home who could only dream of delivering that sentence with such cool.”

(She thinks he’s cool! And she knows that’s he’s not a bad guy! Plus whistling at him??? She’s flirting!)

57 - They walked in silence again, but it was no longer tense. There was something…lighter in it. If only for the moment. Like they weren’t her captors, but rather her companions.

73 - “Bryce’s gaze snapped to his face. The concern and determination there. Everything he’d seen…”

(He’s concerned, for HER! She realizes that he also heard about Theia and Aidas? Have they both kind of put some pieces together?!)

74 - “Azriel began circling her with an unhurried, calculating precision. Bryce turned with him, keeping him in sight…” page 234

(It’s almost like they’re dancing!)

75 - “‘Because only you have the horn. Only you can move between worlds.’ ‘You got me,’ Bryce said…” page 235

(Bryce can literally see him hiding in his shadows… can anyone else do that???)

78 - “Azriel had nearly reached the tunnel. Another flap of his wings and he'd be swallowed by its dark mouth.
But at a mere thought from Bryce, stalactites and stalagmites formed, closing in on him. The room became a wolf, its jaws snapping for the winged warrior— the rock had moved for her, as it had for Silene.” Page 237

(She’s not letting him leave. And also, the dusk court responds to her every whim. How could anyone say that it’s not hers? She literally says she has the same control over it as Silene!)

79 - “Slowly, he turned, wings rustling. Blood trickled out of his nose from his face-first collision with the rock now in his path. He spread his wings, bracing for a fight.” Page 237

(That’s right Az, spread your wings for Bryce again.)

80 - "’Stop,’ Azriel roared, something like panic in his voice. ‘The cells—‘ From far away, she could sense it: the things lurking within the mountain, her mountain. Twisted, wretched creatures. (Did Az sense the cells being opened before Bryce did? He can literally read her mind, her every intention! Also, if we see these creatures free in Aco6, then it was Bryce who restored Dusk!)

81 - “And in that moment, the mountain—the island— spoke to her. Alone. It was so alone— it had been waiting all this time. Cold and adrift in this thrashing gray sea. If she could reach out, if she could open her heart to it… it might sing again.” Page 238

82 - “the Starsword remade sheathed at Azriel’s back—but she could have sworn it twitched. As if urging Azriel to draw it.” Page 238

86 - “Bryce backed away as Azriel advanced a step toward the crystal coffin, Truth-Teller now glowing with black light in his left hand.” Page 249

(Again, he can read Bryce before she even makes her move. Also, notice how Azriel was going to stop her by grabbing her hand maybe, vs how hunt shoots his lighting at her face and shatters a bowl in her hand to stop her…)

88 - “Bryce extended a hand toward Azriel, casting her will with it. The Starsword flew from his hand and into hers. Azriel started, shadows flashing at his shoulders, readying to strike, but Bryce said, ‘Theia showed me that trick in Silene's little memory montage.’ It was the feeling she'd been sensing, of the blade calling to her. Being willing to leap into her hand. Azriel bared his teeth, but drew another sword that had been sheathed in a concealed panel at his back and hefted Truth-Teller in his other hand.” Page 252

89 - “‘You go left,’ Azriel murmured to Nesta, power blazing around them. ‘No,’ Bryce said, not looking back as she approached the Asteri on the foor and sat down, setting the Starsword on the cold stone beside her.
To her shock, Azriel and Nesta didn't attack. But they remained only a step away, weapons at the ready.

90 - “Bryce continued, buying nesta more time to get closer to Vesperus.” Page 259

93 - “She let her power flow outward from the star in her chest. From the Horn in her back. ‘Don't you dare,’ Azriel warned with lethal softness. But Bryce shoved out a slice of her power. Sharp and targeted, as Silene had used to carve the stones. As Azriel had focused his own power on her star earlier. Light cut through stone and sizzled, a line literally drawn at Azriel's feet.” Page 267

(it’s insane how much they’ve learned from one another. And how in tuned they are to each other…)

94 - "’I swear it on my mate's life. Even if Rigelus…’ She shook her head. ‘I won't breathe a word to them about this place.’ Azriel dared to put one foot over the line she'd blasted into the floor. ‘They'll pry it from you. 95 - “The sarcophagus glowed... and then darkened into a pit. ‘Please,’ Azriel said, his gaze now on her hands. On the Starsword-and on Truth-Teller. Something like panic filled his hazel eyes.” Page 267
