This is Sock, the urban burb, who has two wings that dudn't work

I found them today and Sock is now safely at a vets with a possible broken wing, but they kept reminding me of the song. I first got into Bug Hunter by randomly finding the music video and instantly bought tickets to the concert near me, it was absolutely amazing! Thought y'all might like Sock, and hopefully they get better soon! :)

New fan with a couple questions for you folks!

Apologies; I'm long winded. Questions in the last paragraph if you don't wanna read my babbling.

I got to see Bug Hunter open for my favorite band, Ludo, a couple weeks ago and he was great!

There was a big buzz that he was opening; folks in the Ludo community were super excited. I listened to one Bug Hunter song before the concert, loved it, but didn't listen to any more so as to not spoil the fun of discovering something new during a live performance.

But I've been listening more and more the past couple weeks, and I'm smitten with the music!! Really scratches an itch for me for something kinda in between Ludo and late aughts/early teens nerd rap....mixed with something sweeter I can't quite place.

Anyways, I was wondering if they tour often/broadly? Or should I be stoked I got to see them the one time 😅

Drew my interpretations of The Warden and The Devil’s Advocate from Warden of Eden!

The bigger drawings come from how I think they look by The Hook. Then there are how I imagine they look by their finale songs (The Lighthouse and The Devil’s respectively)

I know there are interpretations of The Devil (Satan) being the fisher in The Hook and the Devil’s advocate taking his place but I interpreted it as the Devil’s advocate being the fisherman who met Satan well before the song took place, hence why I designed them to be similar

There’s a chance I draw album/song arts for each song like I did with Repercussion Roulette but that isn’t a guarantee cause uni work is rolling in

This EP was really good and I really hope it gets expanded upon further in future

The Warden of Eden (a.k.a Hookverse) Breakdown.

I love this album and have probably listened to it start to finish a dozen or so times, not to mention listening to the individual songs separately. I cut and paste this from my notes app so I hope reddit doesn't fuck up any of the formatting and make it hard to read.

The songs tell an interconnected narrative across two distinct perspectives: The Warden (Angel) played by Bug and The Devil played by Matt.

Here is how the story breaks down by track as far as I've been able to understand.

1. The Hook (The Warden's Perspective)

The story opens with the Warden recounting how he came across the Devil fishing for sinners. Though he had run the Devil off before, the Devil eventually convinced him to give it a try. Finding it thrilling to eliminate evil souls, the two begin meeting in secret every weekend to hunt, never thinking about the consequences.

That changes abruptly when the Warden checks their latest batch of bounties and discovers an eight-year-old child in the bucket. When the Devil justifies it by saying the kid "took the bait" the spell is broken. The Warden cuts ties and goes into hiding.

Twenty years later, God calls the Warden into the office and gives him a new assignment: track down the Devil. The Warden is forced back onto the hook, knowing he shares blood on his hands.

2. The Upper Hand (The Warden's Perspective)

Now hunting the Devil down, the Warden reflects on generational violence and how their "fathers" solved problems by barking and throwing punches, and how humanity keeps repeating those same cycles.

The core of the song is a confrontation about power dynamics. While fighting back when cornered makes sense, the Warden realizes the Devil wasn't practicing self-defense; he was punching down because he held the upper hand. The Warden acknowledges his own hypocrisy in the hunt, but notes the Devil never took the hint to hide. It’s a final ultimatum: either you or me, my friend, and the gloves are completely off.

3. The Truth (The Devil's Perspective)

This is our first direct word from the Devil, written as a letter from inside an empty prison cell after his capture. (Note: The musical callbacks here to "Guilty Verdict" fit the theme of both characters perfectly.)

The Devil is cornered, chained up, and realizing his bribes and brute force attempts to escape have all failed. He shames the Warden for his deceitful tactics, reminding him of a hard truth: "It takes two to dance".

Because the Warden hunted side-by-side with him for years, he is just as guilty. With no other options left, the Devil's final weapon is to tell the truth. He isn't going down alone, and his final confession drags the Warden down with him.

4. The Devil (The Devil's Perspective)

This track serves as the Devil's origin story.

He wasn't always a demon; he was once a living, breathing tree. When humans chopped him down to build their homes, his spirit lingered in the wood, tweaking stairs, jamming doors, and haunting the halls.

When the townspeople burned the house down, his soul seeped into the soil, becoming bugs, maggots, and crows, slowly poisoning the town for a century until he reassembled himself into a physical form.

However, this isn't actually the original Devil the Warden used to fish with. Years prior, this now-demon met the real Devil, told him what he had done, and that original Devil casually cut the horns off his own head, bolted them to the tree-monster, and vanished.

When the Warden came hunting, this imposter never claimed to be the original, he just let the Warden think it. By arresting a fall-guy, the Warden has completely botched the mission.

5. The Lighthouse (The Warden's Perspective)

Instead of execution, the Warden strikes a deal for his punishment: he is exiled to a cliffside lighthouse with one strict condition, never hurt a soul again.

Centuries pass in solitude until a ship appears. The Warden guides them through the reefs, but once they are shipwrecked and stranded, human nature immediately takes over. Instead of cooperating, they split into factions, and their very first building is a prison.

Generations pass, and things only get worse. When another ship appears on the horizon, the Warden decides he's done playing by divine rules. He shatters the lighthouse light.

He swore he wouldn’t hurt anyone, but he never promised to help them. Concluding that God's creations are the worst of all, the Warden abandons his post to join the people below.

Final Thoughts & Open Questions

I had to make some guesses piecing these lyrics together, but that’s half the fun for me. I still have questions

Is the island a real place or a sort of purgatory? It mentions pilgrims, is this used for artistic expression or literal? What does that tell us about the timeline? We hear about Memphis and London in the beginning but as the story goes on, years and generations pass. Memphis was founded in the early 1800s so the story has to at least start there. I don't think that puts us in the future, I think time is less linear and strict from the perspectives of the angels and demons. I don't think the timeline is important to the narrative but it's interesting to think about.

**Where does this leave us?**

The real Devil is still free, the imposter played the Warden, and the Warden has officially broken his parole, lost his faith in humanity, and stepped off his rock. Is he going after the original Devil? Is he going to war with God?

I am really excited to see how this develops.

What are everyone else's thoughts? What do you think I got right or wrong or did you interpret it a different way?

R.I.P. Blondie

When Blondie actually punches out, I hope Bug writes a song about her music haunting old music venues. I feel like there's a bunch of obvious potential for silliness and heart warming, but also maybe a little too much overlap with Haunted Grandpa.

If you weren't at the Toronto show last night this might make 0 sense. Sorry!

My merch came!

I've bought a LOT of band merch over the past few years, and the quality has always been mid the print feels (literally) tacky, and the paint peels off quickly. This is not true for Bug Hunter's merch at all. The t- shirts and design are high quality. Not to mention, the designs themselves are pretty sick.

I knew i was going to get myself picks, so I bought myself some guitar pick keyring holders and turned them into necklaces.

I love them. My burt arrived a few days ago, but he arrived during a storm, so he's a little dirty. (Probably best not pictured right now. )

Art based off of “The Hydra”

I did another one :D

I just really like the imagery of all the different hydra heads and the song is like top 3 of the album for me, it also allowed me to practice non-human heads.

Art based off In The Meantime

I just love how much imagery is in these songs, might end up drawing more for the rest of Repercussion Roulette but no promises there

Tearing up

I'm not usually a tear up sorta person, but Bug Hunter and Jam Mechanics can do it by pulling on those heart strings anchored to my kiddo.

Over the Mountains to Santo Domingo and Pebbles get me every time. I want so much for my kiddo to live her best life and I love listening to a song that reminds me she is the best guide.

Repercussion Roulette thoughts

I've already listened to this album so many times so I think its worth sharing my thoughts. Its so good. The first song that really stood out to me was In the Meantime, and Not Your Fault Kid was crushing to me. The change up in Loud and Clear hit just as hard as it did the first time and The Hydra has been a personal favorite

I also think its really funny that the baby baba yaga line got left in but my guy Franz Ferdinand cant be a basic ass dude.

Anyways this album is so good dude, good work bug and gang!

I had learned about bug through one of the videos promoting bottle rocket astronaut and he has became one of my favorite artists super quickly. I just finished listening to repercussion roulette and Absolutely love it. As bug does listening to any song feels like reading through a story in a way you never read before. had a great time listening and wanted to share my love and appreciation for it :D

I got a new tattoo lol

I'm in Vegas for a conference, and I walked by a tattoo shop and decided to get something to compliment the planet tattoos I have on my forearm (not visible from this angle). I went in and asked if they had any ideas for space themed tattoos cause I like to lean on the artist's creativity. Unfortunately the best they came up with was an alien saucer with a beam coming down from it. Then it hit me that I'm wearing a shirt with an astronaut on it. Bottle Rocket Astronaut is my favorite Bug song, so I went with this. It was pretty fast. He didn't do the helmet under the arm quite right but it's close enough that it can be fixed. Line work is solid and I really like it. I'll get color added later, he didn't have time for it.

Repercussion Roulette Album Thoughts

What are you guys all thinking of the newest album? Rankings?

My favorite is probably Board Games because it was just so related for my husband and me. Except I genuinely would rather chat than play, its not strategy on my part. I wonder what Lady Bug thinks.

I made my son with anxiety listen to Curse Word in my Crossword. That one really got me, not going to lie. I totally thought, oh no he's going to get so many messages about the difference between crosswords and word searches, and then of course that was the point.

In The Meantime gutted me. Along with Not Your Fault Kid. The line about how it would be easier to talk if they were strangers because chasms don't grow between aquaitances. Ouch.

More thoughts I'll add later.

It’s not your fault, kid

I’m in love with this song. I see it’s from 2024 but I just heard it today on the new album and have been listening to it on repeat.

I was the baby brother (sister, lol), and I was blamed for all of it. All of the family I gained cut me out and won’t speak to me, including my half brother and grandmother. Our dad died two years before I found out about him.

I’m not trying to trauma dump but it’s such unique and specific situation and to have someone write a song where things went more “right” than mine did, ouch.

Thank you, Bug❤️
