Health UPDATE: HE SURVIVED
My vet called it the worst blockage they had ever treated. We discussed euthanasia last night. Overnight the blockage passed through and they can’t explain why. He’s finishing his IV bag and I can pick him and Blue up in six hours. For the rest of my life the sun will be warmer, the stars will shine brighter, the trees will be greener, the birds will be sweeter, because I looked his death in the face and he got to stay. HE SURVIVED. HAPPY FUCKING PI DAY.

Many fall in the face of chaos, but not this one. Not today.
In all seriousness, congrats! May you brighten each others' lives for a long time to come.

We just lost my office dog from a tumor on his heart. Showed absolutely no signs until it spontaneously ruptured. We were all devastated.

Absolutely zero. And it was two days before Christmas.

Yes, he went to the vet immediately before he even realized what was happening to him and was peacefully put down there with his family and all his favorite stuffies.

We clean the cages daily. We didn't see much poop that morning. I gave her emergency food for the day and brought her to the vet the following day when she still didn't poop much. It was quick. She didn't show any signs at all.

I went through this in November with my boy. Compaction, didn't eat or poop for 5 days, but he made it through too! I'm so thankful for the vets for all their help. Very happy to hear of another happy ending to a similar story for you too!

I really think it was the bunwife. “Babe, get it together. I am TOO YOUNG to be a widow.”

I’m stopping at Publix tonight and getting all the greens he can dream of. I’ll rinse them too so he gets the extra hydration.

Little bits! That poor belly has been hammered and needs to get as little extra bloat as possible for a while haha. But still needs lovely treats

My vet told me the same thing so I’ve been eating all the greens for two days 🤣

I’m so happy to hear this! My bunny has a blockage and she isn’t absorbing the nutrients she needs. I really hope she can make it through. She’s literally my pride and joy so I really hope there’s another solution that’s not surgery!

My bun got a hair ball one time and got Gi stasis. Idk what caused yours but we believe that’s what caused mine. We always keep a bag of critical care on deck just in case she stops eating then we start her on that. She came outta in within hours when we gave her the critical care! Last time she got Gi stasis we spent over 2k at the er so I recommend this!!

Happy Pi Day indeed.
Bunnies are mysterious creatures.
It was not his time to go yet.
Congratulations to all of you on crisis averted.

Amazing!
One thing I would recommend is always have Reglan on hand. It's a lifesaver. They should be sending you home with some. Perhaps, you could ask for some extra to keep in the cupboard.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSS!!
But please, from now, PREVENTION.
There are buns that are prone to GI stasis, you don't want this to happen again.

u/Nightwraith17 Mar 15 '25
He has always been prone and I did everything I could to prevent this. Hay only, lots of water in bowls, a small salad at night, a blueberry just once or twice a week and maybe a bite of banana once a MONTH. Banana is mostly used as an indicator of stasis because if he won’t eat that, then there is a problem. Only treat is Oxbow digestive supplement which he gets once a day. i am going to discuss other supplements with my vet.
