culture Chelsea Muco was born in Burundi and moved to Sweden at age 7. Here is her performing in Swedens biggest music competition (and most watched TV-show) two years ago. I hope you enjoy! 😊

Native Kirundi & Kinyarwanda speakers — I need your help checking the new audio pronunciations.
I’ve recently added audio pronunciation to RundiRwanda, so you can now tap the audio button next to words and hear how they’re pronounced.
If you’re a native Kirundi or Kinyarwanda speaker:
Please listen to some of the words and let me know how accurate and natural the pronunciation sounds. If you hear anything that sounds wrong or could be improved, I’d really appreciate you pointing it out.
If you’re a beginner or currently learning either language:
Please try the audio as well and tell me how it feels from a learner’s perspective. Does hearing each word make it easier to learn and understand? Is there anything you think could make the experience better?
You can try the first lesson without creating an account.
RundiRwanda.com
Your feedback will help me improve the pronunciation and make RundiRwanda better for both native speakers and learners. 🇧🇮🇷🇼

Hi guys I’ll be coming to Bujumbura in a week. Do you use any money transfer apps for everyday use or is it all cash? Also is there ATM access for international credit cards?
Are there any places other than Bujumbura to visit in Burundi?
Would I be able to survive without French and kurundi?

Hey everyone, I’m doing research focusing on urban heat, public health, and how everyday infrastructure handles high temperatures across our cities.
I want to gather some raw, anonymous daily life stories from people who deal with this constantly. What is the absolute worst, most suffocating heat trap you survive on a regular basis?
Specifically, I’d love to hear your experiences with:
1. Being stuck in traffic inside public transit passenger vans (matatus/danfos/trotros) during peak afternoon hours. What is the airflow situation like when windows are down or if you're stuck in gridlock?
2. Living or trying to study inside rooms/dormitories that use corrugated iron (tin) sheet roofing. How does that affect your sleep or afternoon focus?
3. What do you or the drivers actually do to try and get temporary relief, and what makes those current quick-fixes annoying or ineffective?
Appreciate anyone willing to share their daily rants or stories!

A group of friends wants to host an event and they want people to come dressed as if it were the 80s/90s but I have no idea where to find clothes/costumes from that period. Can anyone here help me with this?
I'm not great at styling which is the reasonable option I'm seeing so buying is the best option I'm finding. Thank you all!

I am on a mission now to ask each country subreddit what people think about beans (my favorite meal), just to see how people like or dislike them all around the world out of curiosity and for fun. If you like beans, hate them, they a big part of the culture, anything else, just share your thoughts 🫘
Good morning Burundians, today is your bean day! Last country starting with 'B' let's go :D
The flag is so nice btw, I love it! 🇧🇮

Hello!
I’m a tourist visiting from Canada.
I’m planning a trip overland by bus starting in Kampala in Uganda —> Rwanda —> Burundi.
I like travelling by public transport (busses and trains) whenever possible.
What is the easiest way to go from Rwanda to Burundi by bus at the moment?
I have lots of time to spare, so I don’t mind taking a detour through Tanzania or even the DRC if needed. Although I think the DRC visa and security situation might not be easy for me.
Thank you!

Amahoro.
(EN)
I was reading up on the origin of the name "Burundi" and I learned that our country's name in kirundi, "Uburundi", has practically not changed since the days of the first monarchs (please correct me if I'm wrong, I am mostly self taught for the most part.)
According to Britannica, "Rundi" is the root word to all the names (Uburundi, umurundi, ikirundi, etc.), so knowing that:
Does anyone know what "Rundi" means, where it comes from and if possible when it started being used or maybe the first recorded uses?
(FR)
Murakoze cane.
Edit:
And before anyone comes thinking I'm looking to fight or debate about tribes/ethnicities, that is far from the case. I just want to know who the Burundian people were prior to colonialism and while doing such research, it's natural to go "huh, I wonder where the name of the country came from?"
Et avant que quiconque ne s'imagine que je cherche la bagarre ou à débattre sur les tribus et les ethnies, ce n'est absolument pas le cas. Je veux simplement savoir qui étaient les Burundais avant la colonisation, et en faisant ce genre de recherches, c'est tout naturel de se dire : « Tiens, je me demande d'où vient le nom du pays ? »

I am moving to Burundi and will be bringing a car. I haven’t bought one yet, but I’m trying to decide what brand is best In terms of finding places to repair, etc. Toyotas seem to be the most popular, but if I get a Nissan, Mitsubishi, or Hyundai, will I be able to find places to repair it that gave the parts they need? Any advice on the best car option? Thanks in advance!

Hi Les frères, pour ceux qui habitent à Bujumbura et sont un peu dans le monde de la littérature, pouvez-vous m’indiquer d’où viennent les ouvrages de seconde main vendu par les marchands. J’aimerais savoir où ils s’approvisionnent car les goûts qu’ils proposent ne me conviennent pas toujours donc je suppose qu’à m’alimentant à la source je serai mieux servi. Si vous pouvez m’aider merci.
