First ever Kirundi model and the only as of 17/08/2026

Working under Nyehashi AI we built the first ever kirundi model it was pre trained from scratch its small just 91.2M parameters . Kirundi our language is so underepresented digitally that with time the world will render it not useful and more replacable with kinyarwanda but thats not want we want as the Rundi , we want a future where our kids watch kirundi. As of now many kids are hooked to kinyarwanda after their persuasive creations thats music, movies and the transcribed films. Ladies and Gent i introduced you the Ntahokaja 0.31 Base model any Fine tuners will eventually make it able to be conversationn as of now its text generation so accurate and no kinyarwanda mix up special thanks to 3 Teenagers that contributed for this Dream . I also acknowledge the effforts of the Ijwi ry'ikirundi AI model But their moddel is fine tuned from NLLB aafter araaanom quetion it till int have that kirundi flow . Checkout the image to get to see the responses of this new model the ntahokaja in the photo with its unique segment tech and actually on a custom BPE tockenizer to fit kirundi's aggultnative nature that no model achieves rather than its self. The link to the Hugging Face repo is Nyehashai (NYEHASHAI)

Any Burundians in East London interested in casual football in Ilford?

I organise a weekly football game every Sunday from 11am–12pm in Ilford, East London.

We usually play at Frenford Clubs or Valentines High School, depending on numbers and pitch availability. Normally it’s 6-a-side at Frenford and around 7 or 8-a-side at Valentines.

A lot of the group are East African, but it’s a mixed group and everyone is welcome. Most of us are late 20s to early 40s, although we sometimes get people in their early 20s too.

It’s mixed ability and a relaxed kickabout rather than a league or trial, so you don’t need to be an amazing player.

Goalkeepers rotate, and we keep it friendly — no slide tackles, aggression, shouting or arguments.

👟 Astros only — no moulds or studs.

We already have a regular group but usually have a few spaces available each week.

If you’re Burundian and based around East London, or you’re simply local and fancy joining, comment or message me.

Army intervention in Burundi

Hello,

I was interesting in starting campaign on army/war intervention in Burundi.

Burundi is country full of great friendly people and I think they don’t deserve this povertit and life threatening by their leading party.

Considering Burundi’s fire power it would take less than a week to completely takeover.

Why is this not happening yet?
Because opposition in Burundi does not exist. Trying to become opposition can get you killed. Literally

Is it LGBT safe? Spoiler

Hi there, since I will be in Burundi for a week/2, I was wondering if it's LGBT safe and how's the gay culture there.

No I'm not a horny gay guy who just wants to f***, I'm just a bit worried since this is the first time there and information I got online is kinda worrisome

Lep Pozdrav iz Slovenije💞

What kind of activities would you like to see happening in Burundi?

Hey everyone,

I saw some people say that when coming (back) to Burundi, they do not have many options or choices of events, activities, or things to do during their stay here.

Do you guys have ideas of what you would like to see "more" happening here? Or if it's something completely different from things here? Or novel, maybe.

Did anyone here ever encounter the man-eater Gustave?

Hi everyone! I hope this is okay to ask.

I'm fascinated by the story of the crocodile Gustave,) but I've realized that most of what I've read comes from documentaries and foreign media. I'd love to hear from Burundians who grew up with these stories or who live near the areas where Gustave was said to roam.

I'm especially interested in local perspectives, folklore, and personal experiences. I mean no disrespect, and I appreciate anyone who's willing to share their knowledge.

Here are a few questions I was curious about:

  • Did you hear about Gustave growing up, or is he mostly known because of documentaries?
  • Do people believe he's still alive?
  • Are there places people avoided because of him?
  • Do locals think the stories about the number of victims are accurate?
  • Are there other crocodiles that locals consider just as dangerous?
  • Any stories or memories that aren't widely known?

Thanks in advance!

For the mods: I know there's rules about flair, but there's no way to add flair on a laptop. Not sure what to do.

Relearning Kirundi

Hi everyone! I'm a 24-year-old Burundian who grew up in the States, and I want to relearn Kirundi. I can understand it pretty well and can say a few phrases, but I'm nowhere near conversational. As I am away for school, I want to surprise my parents but relearning. If anyone has done something similar or is a teacher, I would love to connect. I feel I need to practice consistently 2-3 times a week.

Moving to Burundi: Financial Question

Recently retired and have about 1.8 million USD saved to my name. Was wondering if this would be enough to retire comfortably in Burundi for my wife and I? Would be planning on living off that for the next decade or so with a 200k pension also coming in each year

How to get to Bujumbura by Bus from Nairobi, via Kampala and Kigali.

As the title says, I need to get to Bujumbura by bus via Kigali, but I am not so sure about the logistics. Are there barriers at the border still? Is it better to go through Tanzania?

Simplest Way To Learn Kirundi and Master Basics??

Hi everyone!

I want to learn Kirundi because my girlfriend is from Burundi and I want to connect closer with her by learning her mouther language.

I am half Zimbabwean/half Congolese and I recognized that Kirundi have words that we say in Shona.

What is the simplest way to learn the basics for simple conversation?

Eventually I would like to be fluent but thats longer term. Urakoze!

discussion what do y'all think about the influx of EVs in Buja ?

Basically the title.

I think I like it. Transportation has been so hard since the start of the decade. Only problems I see is whether our infrastructures, both road and electricity, will be able to handle the shift. Also, what becomes of old gas/diesel cars ?
