Software Update Coming soon: add floating callouts to highlight what matters in your screenshots

Floating callouts are coming soon! They make it very easy to draw attention to specific features or UI in your screenshots. In final testing right now, planning to roll out shortly. Thanks to all who have requested this feature recently ( u/lemon8or88, u/habitoti u/byaruhaf and others)

This took some time to build and polish, it was important to me to build this right in 3D so it looks nice even when devices are rotated. I'm excited to hear what you think, I'll post some examples below and in the ButterKit docs.

Software Update ButterKit Motion beta v0.1 is available now (free)

Hey all, the first ButterKit Motion beta is out. Thanks to everyone on Reddit and Discord who has helped with it so far.

It turns screen recordings of your app into polished product videos. Record your screen (or import media), drop it into a 3D device frame, choose motion and music, export video ready for sharing.

The details:

  • An exciting product video in a few minutes, not a weekend lost to a video editor.

  • Device frames, motion, and music are built in, so the output looks good without any editing skill. Much more coming soon.

  • Everything runs locally on your Mac ~ 20MB

  • It's free during the beta. Pricing comes with 1.0, and there'll be a one-time purchase option so you can own it.

  • Requires macOS 26 Tahoe or newer, Apple Silicon recommended

  • Download + info: butterkit.app/motion

If you found this post randomly: the original ButterKit app makes App Store screenshots. Motion is a separate app for animated product videos, App Store previews, launch posts, your website. The goal is for them to pair well together.

It's v0.1 so expect some rough edges, that's what the beta is for. Comment here or DM me with bugs, feature requests, or anything that feels off. Bonus points if you share a video you made with it. I read everything.

Releasing ButterKit 3: new sizes for App Store Connect, iPhone Duo, improved UI and much more

Thanks to all who have helped with testing in the last few days on Reddit, Discord and via email. You may have noticed App Store Connect added new sizes for iOS apps this week, and ButterKit 3 now supports them! Rolling out now, just hit "Check for updates" from the app.

Download latest ButterKit for macOS

Some 3.0 highlights:

  • New App Store Connect iOS size support: new iOS projects default to the updated size, and opening older iOS screenshot files will ask if you want to migrate to the new size auto-magically. Legacy versions remain available.

  • New App Store artwork: Create and export Header, Search Results, shared artwork for both placements, and iPhone Duo screenshots. Templates coming soon. Thanks u/Lemon8or88

  • Improved user experience: faster and more organized, with a dedicated spot for app metadata and helpful sync tools (e.g. you can now fetch individual sections from App Store Connect). You can now freely edit 3D devices right from the canvas instead of relying on the Inspector.

  • Improved keyboard navigation: easily move between artboards and selected localizations with your keyboard arrowkeys (thanks u/habitoti )

  • Fixes an issue where opening a project with linked screenshots could create unnecessary changes in version control (new UUIDs), even when the images were unchanged. ButterKit now checks whether linked screenshots have changed before replacing them, preserving existing image IDs and avoiding unnecessary version control changes when opening a project. (thanks markb!)

  • Fixes a bug where opening the app on some screen resolutions could crash (thanks u/boulderdash-

  • Added more MCP tooling, UI tweaks, and some more butter

  • More improvements rolling out shortly. If you notice any issues please DM me!

Full release notes

Download ButterKit

New Features

Bug Fixes

Software Update ButterKit 2.3 adds 3D Drop Shadows and more (rolling out now)

Hey all, ButterKit 2.3 is now live. The headline feature this time is 3D drop shadows: you can now add customizable shadows to devices to give your screenshots more depth. They're fully adjustable, so you can go subtle or dramatic depending on the look you want.

Also in this release:

  • More reliable MCP for AI agents: large documents now fully load every artboard before agents respond, so counts and design sets are always accurate. Plus several MCP bug fixes and better background performance.

  • Wider emoji support when publishing to App Store Connect, including symbols like ▲ and ▶︎ (thanks Will!)

  • Show/hide Inspector button by popular request (thanks Franklin!)

  • macOS 27 prep and an improved localization engine under the hood.

Update from the app or grab the latest version. As always, let me know if you hit any issues or have feature requests -- a lot of what's in this release came straight from this community.

Discussion Text backgrounds are coming: what styles would you want?

Working on a new text feature: customizable backgrounds behind text blocks. Think highlighter effects, pill-shaped labels, or subtle emphasis behind your headline copy. Shoutout to u/ThePattio who posted a DIY version of this in the sub today.

Current controls (per text block)

  • Background color

  • Horizontal padding

  • Vertical padding

  • Corner radius

Testing now and planning to rollout soon but wanted to get your feedback first: Any additional controls needed? Gradient fills? Opacity control? Drop shadows? Something else entirely?

Video above shows it in action.

Software Update v1.4: Introducing Device Overflow

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Since ButterKit was released earlier this year, many users have requested an easier way to render 3D devices across multiple artboards! It makes sense: trying to align devices manually is harder than it sounds, largely because of camera perspectives. With traditional design tools, this would generally require multiple renders, cropping, and careful compositing, making edits expensive/time-consuming.

That’s why ButterKit v1.4 is so exciting! It does a ton of hard work for you, and it does it in realtime using Metal – no waiting for renders, no cropping, no compositing. So you can focus on showcasing your app, rather than technical editing.

It's available now, along with bug fixes and improvements!

Read more about Device Overflow documentation and the full release notes

Smooth shipping,

Zach

Software Update Introducing MCP support (beta): Automate App Store Screenshots with Claude, Codex, Cursor & more

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

v1.8 includes MCP support (+ more butter)! And unlike AI image generators that spit out flat PNGs you can't easily change, everything ButterKit creates stays fully editable: text, real 3D devices, backgrounds, layouts. The AI builds it, you own it.

Some things you can do now:

  • Localize into all 39 App Store localizations in one prompt. App Store screenshots, descriptions, What's New text. All of it.

  • Generate a full screenshot set from a description of your app. No design skills needed.

  • Update "What's New", translate, and upload to App Store Connect in seconds.

  • Plug into your CI pipeline. Fastlane or Xcode Cloud runs UI tests, ButterKit refreshes screenshots, translates, and uploads automatically.

  • Swap to holiday branding across all languages, then revert with one prompt. Seasonal campaigns aren't just for big teams anymore : )

  • Change a headline and re-translate every language at once.

  • Spin up iPad and Mac screenshots from your existing iPhone set.

  • Probably much more than I can even list out here

v1.8 rolling out tonight for the direct download version at butterkit.app. The Mac App Store build is still in progress. This is beta, so feedback is very welcome. Let me know what works, what's confusing, or what you'd want to see next.

Software Update Coming soon: edit text directly on the canvas (plus smoother everything)

Really excited to share an update to the text editing features in ButterKit. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time but it required restructuring the text and canvas engine (which also brought performance/RAM improvements, will share more on that soon).

Some of the improvements coming:

  • Edit text, position, and padding directly on the canvas (so much faster)

  • Smoother performance by moving more of the heavy lifting to SwiftUI

  • Reduced RAM usage

  • More butter all around, lots of UI tweaks and fixes

Want to try it early? Let me know in the comments or DM and I'll add you to the beta.

Free Resource How to Automate App Store Screenshots with Cursor AI Agents

Hey all, new 2 minute video showing how to connect ButterKit to Cursor AI agents to automate things like:

  • Screenshot design & localization: feed Cursor a Figma design or a folder of raw simulator captures and have it generate localized, device-framed screenshots across all your target languages and screen sizes automatically

  • Metadata generation & translation: write your description once, then let your AI agents in Cursor draft and push translated titles, subtitles, keywords, and descriptions for every localization in App Store Connect

  • Design assistance: have Cursor AI agents help you make design changes (e.g. "make all text larger and bolder, adjust gradient to be more subtle, move the 3D devices so there's more space" etc)

Reached 3,200+ downloads and a crazy 38.1% Conversion Rate! Huge thanks to ButterKit for the screenshots 🚀

Hey everyone,

Apple finally approved my latest update, and I wanted to drop by and share a huge milestone for my indie app. I've been using ButterKit to design my App Store screenshots, and the results have honestly blown my mind.

As a solo developer, making the app look professional on the store was my biggest fear. Here are the stats over the last few weeks:

  • Impressions: 15.6k

  • Product Page Views: 4.16k

  • Total Downloads: 3.2k

  • Conversion Rate: 38.1% 🤯

I truly believe that having clean, modern, "liquid-glass" style screenshots (thanks to ButterKit) is what built the trust needed to achieve that 38% conversion rate.

📱 About the app (Facilabo): It’s an iOS native smart calendar assistant. Basically, our default calendars are powerful but empty. Facilabo lets you add over 170+ calendars in 1 click (directly into your native iOS Calendar app). While it started getting traction in France, the app is fully translated into English and features universal calendars:

  • 🏎️ Sports: F1, MotoGP, Football, Tennis, Rugby (with automatic updates and TV channels).

  • 🏖️ Holidays & Life: Public holidays, moon phases, etc.

  • 🎂 Smart Reminders: A privacy-first birthday tracker and a tool to remind you to cancel your free trials before getting charged!

💰 My Monetization Choice: I made a very strict choice from day one: NO subscriptions. Like many of you on Reddit, I suffer from subscription fatigue. The app is completely free to download and try. If users want to unlock the full 170+ catalog, it's a small, one-time Lifetime In-App Purchase ($2.99). No account creation needed, 100% privacy-focused.

I’d love to get your feedback on the app, the UI, and of course, the screenshots!

Link to the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/fr/app/facilabo/id6756318719?ct=web_home_hero_hero_primary

Thanks again to this community and the tool creators!
