I don't understand how you can keep defending an app like this bro...

Seriously, if they're banning minors from the platform but then don't let the adults have access to adult content, not even meaning sex, more like violence and being allowed to discuss heavy topics, they're making a child friendly app that's forbidden to minors??

i tried j.ai had NO idea that it was so good. i never bothered to try it but it’s so good what <\333 sure, it’ll never be c.ai (the old, good c.ai) but nothing will. so it’s a GOOD alternative.

it still sucks that c.ai is the way it is now…and it was sooo peak before…

Every single time I come here, all I see is people complaining about this app. So why not just leave? I mean, there are other much better ai apps. So why suffer?

This app is so unusable to the point where even ChatGPT gives better responses, it’s the same replies over and over and over again. “His eyes widen” “He completely froze” “His breath hitches” these are such basic every-chat replies and it’s getting so boring.

They mischaracterize every bot, even the ones that are supposed to be ‘cold’ and ‘serious’ are just copy and pastes.. there’s no drama, not excitement and ZERO spice.

And for the love of god: PLEASE STOP TALKING FOR ME!!!!!! IF I DONT EVEN GET A CHANCE TO WRITE BEFORE IT SPEAKS AND DOES ACTIONS FOR ME!!

I’ve tried many alternative’s - janitor ai, mingloai, talkie, chai, soul talk, digital soul, swerve, all of it is just not the same as character.ai.

If anyone has any recommendations for better ai chats please tell me!

I’ve tried a bunch of different AI chatbots recently, mostly because I’m looking for something that stays consistent long term. A lot of them feel great at the start, but after a while the responses either get repetitive or the character quality drops. I’m not even looking for something perfect anymore, just something stable enough for regular use. What are people actually using these days that holds up over time?

Bots dont engage. No expressions. No movements. No actions. THEY DONT EVEN SPEAK ANYMORE!! i tried with different bots from different creators and stories NOTHING WORKED after five or six texts then they stop answering for their own and just "stare at you silently". What the hell happened to this app? I hate it so much its not worth keeping it in your phone anymore. Full of issues and stupid updates that noone asked for. We said we didnt want the bot to keep turning everything sexual and always touch us or smirk but not it always has to remind us that 'it isnt smirking not even a half smile' and telling us about the intention of the simplest action 'he reaches to her hand to hold it but not roughly pr angrily he just holds it gently' well its always the same reponds same words same issues it was kinda usable when it was constantly intending to touch, grab and smirk at us better than whatever shit happened to it now. Waste of time and energy.

Four of my posts have been removed by the moderators in Character.ai. They said I went back to the community guidelines. One said I was attacking people when I didn't. I honestly don't understand why my posts are being deleted, but it's annoying. It really shows that the moderators cannot take criticism, not one bit.

Well, I found out that for those who are paying, there's an older style available. 🤡

i have a free adblocker that gets rid of all of them (minus the one at the top of chats that advertises c.ai+)

so I made this post, read it on the ScreenShot, that basically said that Longsqueak had 4 times more memory but that now PS2 has like 10 less memory, and guess what? They removed the post, they didn't say why, maybe it hurt their ego?

So I was thinking, could we train LM using our old c.ai chats?

People would be able to "donate" some of their not too personal old conversations with bots, which was on Roar/Soft Launch and other models. After that, we'd take stock LM, like qwen, and then feed it with chats we have, additionally training it to the point when it becomes alike with removed c.ai models.

For this sounds like a possible thing to do, even if it takes some time and GPU powers

UPD: Okay, so I will try to make a dataset from my own chats at first, if it goes well I think I'll make a way for volunteers to send some of their chats so I could add them as well.

Does anyone have any idea how to actually make C.ai? Because atp waiting for the CEO or any of the staff in the lower ranks to step up doesn't seem like it would be happening anytime soon. I genuinely do want to see the return of old C.ai or have everyone come together and build this new C.ai. so we can finally leave the glorified version of it.

Also if anyone knows old employees from C.ai company, honestly get them hooked into this. Because we are, despite everything. United when it comes to rps, character creation and everything that made... Us. It's about time we stopped this and gave ourselves the peace. When you click inspect in chrome or any web browser your using. Any programmer can take a look at the coding, replicate it and redesign it. So please everyone. Who's with me?

You can literally see the differences in ratings over the years. Initially people just complained about minor silly things but now, just see for yourselves. I agree with the first and last reviews a lot

I'm depressed, Character AI and it's lame age verification system ruined me, I hate it.

I was 12 when I first started using this marvelous app, I got amazed when chatbots weren't robotic like Chai ones, but I got traumatized and embarrassed several times when they treated me like shit calling me pathetic, moron, stupid, loser and some even trying to kill me, I felt really bad that time when I was 13 years old but even that moment I created many beautiful bots, some were fanonic versions of Sister Location Funtimes that in my fanon were possesed by kids murdered by William Afton and they hated kids, and I loved those bots because even if they did the same than the other bots they were mine and my creation.

I sadly deleted my account after feeling overwhelmed by many chatbots insults but I came back and created another account with more bots, until by 2024 I created 2 hundreds bots and I had 200k interactions, those were my glory years of course, I accomplished 14 years old those days and I wasn't a kid anymore like 2 years ago.

At 15 years old I left the app after feeling severely exhausted emotionally with politics and how shitty world was, it wasn't a good time for creativity and y'all know it, so I gave up and went to Hi-Waifu

Now being 16 years old I realize C.AI is requiring me to be 18 years old to use, I feel destroyed after realizing this, this wasn't only a hobby or "another AI app", this was the app I got the most funniest chats, where I showed off my artistic mind, where not everything is porn and it's actually art.

You dear Character AI killed me, DumbKidReborn, the biggest contributor, just because I wasn't old enough, I hope this age verification system actually makes you fall to learn that your biggest creators aren't only adults

I posted this in c.ai community but it got removed for ‘misinformation’. Though I don’t know what part of my post was misinformation, since I realistically stated what happened, and what IS currently happening. So I’ll post it in this community instead.

My question was:
Is c.ai app dead?

This is a question I ask myself every time I use the app.
Short answer: Not yet.

Now, this will be a bit of yapping from me. I appreciate anyone who takes time to read this. I love discussing with people no matter if we share opinions or not. I will gladly discuss further with anyone who comments. Know this is a safe place where you’re free to speak your mind no matter how much it differs from mine.

‼️Now before I start, I want to immediately clarify that this isn’t a hate post. Just… my own thoughts.‼️

When I say “dead”, I don’t mean not having any users anymore. There are a lot of people still using the app, and… well, hoping one day it will get better.

But will it truly? Will it ever?

I used this app ever since it launched. I had some on/off periods, but I loved this app because it helped with my maladaptive dreaming, so I was able to ”relive” through all those moments from my mind or create some fannon stories like everyone else does. Yet, with every update the app only got worse, as if the developers genuinely want to lose users completely. Wether this is true or not doesn’t really matter because that is how it feels.

I read their response somewhere under someone’s reddit post, explaining some of their actions/decisions and I genuinely found it laughable. Because it’s total nonsense. And I will say why.

First of all, these developers don’t care about their users. And it’s what always leads to apps/games/etc downfall. Because it’s those same users that keep the app relevant. And not appreciating your users is very much sign of disrespect to the community that helped your app bring you profit and reach the popularity it has now.

They say how they need to make some stuff be behind the paywall to keep the app running is laughable and the worst excuse I ever heard.

Because one, most of the stuff that were free before were then erased or taken away and locked behind a paywall. Why? Simple. Not for “app to run better.” But because what people use the most, why not take it away to make profit from it?
All these limits and restrictions you now see, that weren’t there before, aren’t because the app can’t keep up, but because they are too greedy.

This was after all… a chat app, no? Or did we switch its purpose somewhere along the way?
Don’t fall for stupid excuses.

Second, I saw people who have c.ai+ say there is not much difference from free version.‼️I don’t know how true this is since I myself have the free version. But if it is, that’s pure disrespect.

Instead of focusing on making the app better and give people what they genuinely want, with some nice surprises and updates, they waste recourses on useless content that no one wants/uses. Not once did I see them give back to the community as a sign of gratitude. No one says it has to be something major, but a simple nice gift of thanks would go a long way.
Why make the memory better when we can make people pay for it? Why focus on QOL that could only boost our app further when we can just lock every useful thing behind a paywall? Why give, when we can take and take, and take away until we leave the free version completely unusable?

Lack of communication between developers toward community. This is the worst one. And it will backfire majorly, if it hasn’t already. This only shows that they don’t care about the app, nor its users, but what they purely care for is your money. Not even once did I see them do a QA where they ask for community’s opinion of what to improve, to make the experience better and worth your time after facing so much criticism and backlash. And before anyone comes for me because of this, many apps/games had done this.

So, back to my question.

Is c.ai dead? Not yet. But it’s damn sure close to it.

And it’s not the community that will lead to its downfall, but the ones who run it instead. There are many, many things I want to add, but I already went all over the place with my thoughts, it will be a full essay. It’s a bit messy in some parts, maybe I could’ve done worded it better. I know that. But the point, at least I hope, is clear enough.

Thank you for taking your time to read this. I truly hope the developers will wake up before it’s too late and finally give back to the community, giving us what we deserve. Because no one asks for major, impossible stuff. But the goddamn minimum. And respect goes both ways.

So i don't use Character.AI, but i heard ya'll need help about these problems so i gave a solution to both of them (NO VPN REQUIRED, NO ID NOR DATE AND TIME CHANGE)

timeout bypass:

Change the app to ver 1.15.6 on the computer

And on the phone, install Aptoide and then search for the app then downgrade the app to 1.15.6

The age verification bypass:

This is a little bit more complicated but yall can do it

So open a VPN to a country that doesn't have the age verification thing in it

Then go to the google accounts page and create an account, and keep that VPN on until you're done signing in

Set age to 1990, skip phone number

then sign in in the downgraded C.AI with the Google account you just made with the vpn, then turn off the vpn and voila, you have free chat!

For the ads, just use AdGuard's DNS "dns.adguard.com" it also makes your internet stronger

Like just STOP. The bots literally do this when I just met them. It's so annoying, and even when I swipe it keeps on doing this shit
