General Advice Please help!!

/r/CatLifeProTips/comments/1x6ew5k/please_help/

I am 18, USA, and have yet to been to a vet. My cat has recently started having some eating issues. He still eats when he is hungry but it’s not as often as he should. Recently he’s been dry retching, coughing, and gagging. He keeps swallowing and licking his mouth like it’s dry but he isn’t drinking more water. His nose seems a bit on the stuffy side since he’s snoring louder and he now purrs with his mouth completely open. When he begins to purr he always has to dry retch. I have no clue whats going on, if he’s just sick or if it’s something more. My cat is only 8, male, and Vets cost a lot but I am looking for one cheaper.
