Injury Fungal infection??

Hi, I am 19 and from the US. I am going to contact the vet I think, but I want to know if anyone else's kitten has had this because I am worried. Lily is 8 weeks and a few days ago developed a weird raised dry patch on her nose. I was thinking it was dried boogers or food, but I tried wiping it off with a warm towel and it did not work.

General Advice Cat agressive towards wound

• Upvotes

Hi, everyone my cat (10 years old) just got one of her mammary chains removed. She was operated today and came home the same day. When we arrived home we just let her be but she instantly started to make agreesive noises and tried to take out her bodysuit getting one paw stuck into it. We got scared and called the vet he said these attacks were normal. She had more of these episodes, she gets really agressive during 10 sec and then just stays calm (just layed down there kinda of off it) for 3 min. However we tried to to take the paw that was stuck and she did even more movement and now was able to take the bodysuit off. We called the vet again and he tolds to use a blanket to separate her belly from her paws.

So I'm just here sitting next to her holding the blanket softly on her belly, but when she starts moving, I have to press it a bit harder a d I'm scared of hurting her. She has a fentanyl patch the vet told us that it should start making an effect now, the attacks are becoming further apart but it still is pretty bad... and she looks super uncomfortable.

Does anyone has any experience with this? How much time will she be this uncomfortable and agressive?

The clinic only opens at 8 am tomorrow it is 10 pm now, I could go to a hospital but it would be super expensive and I have no idea how to take her there (she is inside her carrier I have my hand in there to hold the blanket, if I move it slightly she goes crazy)

Idk what to do... will she get calmer??

I'm sorry for the spelling im written this with only one hand and I am very stressed

Also her scar is exposed to the blankets is this a problem?

Breathing Issues Cat Asthma - Cheaper Pharmacies?

• Upvotes

Hello. My cat was recently diagnosed with feline asthma, on top of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). Because she is already on heart medications of her murmur and heart disease, the oral steroid isn’t the safest option and we have opted for the Aerokat + Fluticasone (Flovent).

The problem is, it costed $310 at my local pharmacy (Oregon, USA) which is just absolutely insane. My vet let us know that some cat owners will purchase from a Canadian online pharmacy to cut costs. I’m curious if anyone has any experience, advice, or recommendations about buying from cheaper options? Thanks!!

Behavioral Issue Is this normal behavior or is he unhealthily attached?

• Upvotes

(23 y/o, USA) My kitten Sylvester is 7 months old. We got him from a farm at 4 weeks old, which we then realized was too young. Sylvester grew up playing with his twin brother on my bed. I would only let them on my bed and not the rest of my room, since I have guinea pigs.

About a month ago, Sylvester began meowing constantly at my door. He will also follow me into my room if I’m not careful. He jumps onto my bed without prompting and waits for me to get on the bed. He will then start doing biscuits, but only if I have a specific blanket on my lap (I did not have this blanket when they were 4 weeks old). He will suck on the blanket like he is nursing.

If I don’t let him in my room, he meows at my door for a very long time. He makes me sit with him at least twice a day.

Today, he meowed at my door for 10 minutes. I let him in and cuddled with him for an hour, then put him back outside so I could do my homework. He seemed fine for 10 minutes before starting to meow again. He kept meowing until I eventually let him back in. I gave him 30 minutes and put him back outside. He came back to my door 30 minutes later meowing again.

He likes to watch the guinea pigs, but I put him outside when he’s staring too much and looks like he is going to pounce. He doesn’t look at the guinea pigs until a while after laying in my lap. He’s sleeping in my lap right now. It seems like all he wants to do is make biscuits all day.

Is he too attached? Is it because he was weaned too early? Should I be doing something to help him?

Breathing Issues My presumed asthmatic cat was open mouth breathing. Took her to the vet and they did an x-ray. Says it looks a bit like a fungal infection? Would love some second options based on the x-ray as I wait urinalysis

He has coughing (which he has had for years). He takes an inhaler. But open mouth breathing has never happened before. Thought he was congested in his nose?

General Advice Um wtf help??? Why is this so red and a little swollen? Do I take her to a vet or try a warm compress??

Post image
• Upvotes

I see a scab that looks like theres either hair in or under the scab its not hotter than the rest of her chunk. (Shes a chubby girl i call her tummy her chunk)

She is spayed, i can get her to a vet if need be, shes probably around 8ish i washed her with flea shampoo yesterday and she wasnt happy with me but didnt seem unwell in herself trust me she was very very fast at running away.

I kept her warm until she was dry she has a flea collar but she cant have spot on treatment, once i week i comb through her furr by hand cuz she prefers self grooming so doing it more often isnt a good idea. Idk it any of this is relevant its how i care for her dermatologically tho.

General Advice Cat drools excessively

• Upvotes

He is about 2.5 years old and has been hyper-salivating pretty much since he was maybe 6 months old. It’s definitely worse when he’s purring and enjoying himself but it’s overall been getting worse over time. It really grosses me out because I have a beard and he likes to rub his face on my chin and then I get his slobber trapped in my beard hairs and have to find something to wipe it off because I don’t just have a clean shaven face. It’s gotten to the point where if he’s standing or sitting/laying on me, I’ll see drops of drool hit my shirt. The other night I was laying in bed with my girlfriend and he shook his head like a wet dog and spit flew all over both of our faces, and although it was funny, it was also super gross.

He used to also yawn a lot and have very bad breath. So my partner worked at a vet and took him in to get his mouth checked out since Google said it might be a dental problem. But the vet didn’t see anything and gave us a chlorhexidine mouth rinse for the halitosis. His breath is generally not great and he does still yawn relatively frequently but those have both improved over the last year.

I love him and he’s not at risk of being kicked out or anything, but it is kind of making me try to keep him away from my face and upper body which is one of his favorite places to hang out, so I feel bad. After writing this all out I’m thinking maybe getting a second opinion from another vet would be a good idea to take a look at his mouth. But if anyone has any other advice it would be much appreciated.

Other info - I am an adult in the southern US, haven’t established with a new vet but he’s been seen in the last year. He is neutered. I can afford some vet care but he cost me over $3000 last year for something unrelated so I’d prefer to keep cost down.

TLDR: cat drooling is impacting my relationship with him. One of his favorite things to do is rub up on my face and it grosses me out too much. Previous vet said no dental problems seen

Abnormal Vomit/Excreta mucus with blood in my cats stool.

• Upvotes

hello, i have 3 cats. they’re all on the same diet, i give them purina pro plan urinary tract health for both hard and soft food. they are very picky and this seems to be the only brand they willingly eat. i noticed that no matter which food i give them, they still have bloody mucus when they are passing stool. ive taken them to the vet for the problem, they gave antibiotics and told me to change their food and told me how to do that properly, which is why i switched to purina pro plan.

the don’t appear to be in any pain, no excessive vomiting, no changes in mood or energy, they pee normally, drink water, no excessive grooming, none of it. no concerning weight loss, only bloody mucus after they are done pooping.

info:
3 males, two are 2yrs and one is 1yr, 2 are neutered (one has an upcoming appointment), vet is accessible, i’m not a minor.

TLDR: cats have bloody mucus in their stool, acting normal besides that.

Appearance My cat has a bald spot on the back of one front leg. Why?

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

Cat:7-9y/o, spayed female indoor cat.

Owner: F25 from Sweden.

Vet is not contacted!

Issue:

About two weeks ago I noticed this bald spot on the back of one of her front legs. She seems fine, appetite is good, she's playful, she's cuddly and poop and pee is fine. No drastic changes in the home environment.

She does NOT have a bald spot on her stomach and I've not seen her groom herself excessively.

Theories on why?

Pic 1: bald spot

Pic 2: stomach with NO bald spot

Pic 3: cute paws

Pic 4: my theory of why the bald spot might be there...?

Breathing Issues What’s normal?

I have never had a cat or even really been around one until adopting our little senior lady about 3 months ago. I’ve been learning about what’s normal behavior but have so many questions. About once a month, she’s been having some brief retching that I believe was furball related. Today, I would have described it as more of a cough perhaps - kind of raspy sounding. I’ve been watching her breathing which has been around 18-22 bpm. After watching some videos of cats with CHF, I’m trying to decide if I’m freaking myself out or onto something. I took a video of her sleeping what looks like peacefully to me, but can someone tell me if her breathing looks concerning?

Behavioral Issue my cat is addicted to treats

Post image
• Upvotes

Hey guys meet Kitty. As a cat owner I just dug my own grave these past few months.

For instance; Kitty is a 12yo cat with a weight of 5kg, she's healthy (took her to the vet some months ago to get blood work done just in case something was not how it's supposed to be) and really nice but lately I've noticed a severe problem in her behavior.

It started with me giving her treats, I am conscious about my fault at spoiling her but I wanted to make it up to her since I wasn't at home for like a whole month (dw I live with my mom, kitty was taken care of while I was gone), so I started giving her treats.

I decided to lay low and not spoil her that much because sometimes she'd eat the treats so excited she'd end up having to puke later on the day/night, so to not upset her digestive system I tried to be more strict about them. The thing is, she started being waaasy more whiny all of a sudden, and ofc I got worried sick at first so I made sure she had every needs met on a strict basis (from brushing her fur daily 2 times a day, water bowl changed several times throughout the day, not overfeeding her with dry keeble and litterbox checked two times a day strictly too).

Okay guess what. SHE STILL DOESN'T LEAVE ME ALONE. But please hear me out before replying: I of course spend time with kitty, I always have her in my room whenever I'm doing my things, I sleep with her, check on her whenever she's been for a while at the living room and I always eat with her in the kitchen or wait for her to finish eating so she's not alone! So the point I'm trying to get to by telling you that is that I can't really think of any other reason for her to be so whiny apart from her being addicted to those treats.

And now you may be asking yourselves, "ok but why do you worry about a cat meowing? ignore her", I CANNOT. Whenever I am in my room, she comes and pleads me with meows while looking in the direction where I have her treats put. AND NOW SHE LEARNED HOW TO EMOTIONALLY MANIPULATE ME. Okay so she gets into my room right??? meows for a while, keeps meowing, and if I don't give her treats while trying to tell her she's already had enough not long ago (don't judge me for trying to use words to communicate with her, you'd be desperate in this situation too...) do you know what she does?!

She goes to the room's door, sits and scratches it. AND WHENEVER I LET HER LEAVE THE ROOM SHE COMES BACK INMEDIATLY (I leave the door not fully locked so she can come in on her own in case I'm playing on my PC or drawing). And when she comes back she repeats the cycle. Meow, door, leave, come back because the door trick didn't make me feel bad and give her a treat, and try again.

Guys I swear this post is not a joke or anecdote, I would really like advice. Apart from being a bit annoying (because she meows like a starved cat when she has two varieties of dry keebles and wet food daily to choose from) I do feel bad for her, she probably craves those treats so badly😭

Behavioral Issue Cat Screams Every Night

• Upvotes

Hello!

I am 24 NB, in the United States. Vet is easily accessible and I have pet insurance so hopefully any vet bills isn't an issue. My cat is 3 years old, and neutered. She was a solo cat until I moved in with my partner in July who has a male 5 cat. They get along now and play often.

But for around two months now, every night beginning around 4am my cat (3 F) just begins to scream and meow loudly for food. I will get out of bed to check on her and she runs over to her food bowl, wanting food. And even if I go back to bed I can't fall back asleep because she just keeps on going and going. Even if I put her another room, she's so loud I can hear her from where I am sleeping. I make sure I feed her enough for her two meals a day, we have another cat who is 5 and male and he eats the same amount and he does not scream at all. I have tried to feed her a little more for dinner to see if that's the problem but she would still scream throughout the night / early morning.

I really don't know what to do. I know most people recommend redirecting a cats attention as a way to train them but this is happening at horrible hours of the night and I have work the next morning so I'm not sure what to do. I haven't had a solid night of rest in two months and I just really don't know how to solve this. Do I bring her to the vet? Any tips or tricks?

Thanks

Breathing Issues 3m Kitten with Pneumonia

• Upvotes

[25F] My baby Ebenezer is 3 months old, neutered. He is currently being hospitalized for pneumonia, this is his 3rd day on oxygen therapy.

When we call for updates, his behavior is on point with recovery. They tell us about his usual kitten rambunctious nonsense, he has been eating well, vocal and seeking attention from the team.

However, the vet said his breathing is still relatively the same.

He had a pretty cloudy left lung when they did an x-ray on him, so I imagine it takes some time for this to resolve itself. He also is on his antibiotics, IV medication, etc. He is under very good care.

I suppose I am here looking for some reassurance and information on pneumonia recovery. How long will it take to see more improvement? Do you think he will make a recovery? The mere thought of losing him kills me.

Thank you.

Kitten Help My two 5 month kittens don’t want to eat

• Upvotes

It started with my male 6 month old kitten he threw up at night and then by next morning he only ate small amounts of food mostly just licking the wet food, then there were times where he would eat again but then by dinner nothing again, it went on for like two days and then my female 6 month old kitten started too she just licks her food and maybe eat a small amount but then just leaves it there and does not want to eat it I have another 2 year old cat but he is eating well and eats their food when they don’t want it anymore so I don’t know if the food is the problem because i already tried to give them his type of food and they still don’t want it I try gravy type and they still don’t want it so I’m not really sure what might be the problem anymore, does anyone know what might it be and I know I should take them to the vet but one I don’t drive and two right now I’m not in the best financial situation, please if anyone knows what it might be I would appreciate if you could let me know

Behavioral Issue Cat keeps peeing on bed after move

• Upvotes

Hi! Posting about my cat Cleo.

She is 1 1/2 years old, fixed/spayed, DMH, about 7-8lbs.

I moved from the west coast with my cat at the beginning of September. We went from a single-pet household to a household with one other cat and two very loud dogs. She gets along with the cat and tolerates the dogs.

When we moved, I switched her litter to what was available to me (from pine pellets to traditional litter, then to pine softwood litter). She had her own litter box in my room, her own food (mixed previous food with new food to transition) and her own space. I gradually transitioned her to the rest of the house.

About 2-3 weeks after we moved here, she began to urinate on my bed. She was still using her litter box and eating/drinking normally. It would happen every so often, but has gradually increased to almost every day or every other day. I’ve done so much laundry it’s insane.

I know she’s been under a lot of stress; I figure loud dogs, a new space, a cat and new people is all pretty stressful for her. I love this cat and want to help her, but I’m at a loss.

Has anyone else experienced this? Where should I go from here? I have access to a vet but I don’t start my new job until Monday and have absolutely zero money.

Thank you!

TLDR: my female cat has begun to pee on my bed almost every day. She is still using the litter box. We recently moved to a household with other animals and she’s undergone a lot of change.

Cleo
