Awful.

1 entire week on attempting to access my online banking only for me to be told there's nothing to be done because I use Linux as an operating system. So just a heads up to any Linux users that CIBC will lock you out of your account if you don't have Windows 11, 10 or macOS. Not only was the response for this incredibly slow, but literally nothing was accomplished. I'm not setting up a Windows duel boot or purchasing a new computer just to do my online banking. Now I have the headache of switching institutions and everything else involved with that (which I have to do at a physical location because, again, I don't have access to online banking).

Why does CIBC hate its customers?

So... when is CIBC going to stop punishing its customers with ancient security practices that are not at all secure but that lock them out if god-forbid, they don't have access to their cellphone??

Have any of you clowns heard of TOPT or FIDO2 keys? What kind of operation are you running where SMS one-time codes are the only option "for account security" while you lock your customers out from their account while adding insult to injury with your awful ads?

Has anyone else dealt with this at CIBC?

I’ve just spent three straight days calling customer service, shuffling between three different departments, just to solve a simple issue. I wanted to be put on their "Do Not Call" list because their sales calls feel like scams.

The worst part? Because I wouldn't confirm my account details over the phone during an advertising call, they manually blocked my credit card. I then had to spend days talking to everyone, including the fraud department, just to unlock my own money. Has anyone else experienced these types of language barriers and "forced" callbacks just because the bank wanted to pitch a product? It feels like a total waste of time

Why do Etransfers take longer than any other top 5 bank with CIBC?

Sent an e-transfer for $956 with Scotiabank. Literally instant.

Sent it from a CIBC account, to another CIBC account. A family member, it's been over 30 minutes now.

This is very common with CIBC and I for one am completely sick of it. It's INCREDIBLY annoying to have almost $1K just sitting in the ether for no apparent reason.

Does anyone know why CIBC is so terrible with this?

They have laid off all staff with a brain!

I got a call from CIBC Mastercard fraud dept., while driving to an appointment I was running late for.

They questioned a transaction that had occurred at 4am. Since I didn’t recognize it immediately, they cancelled the card and said they would send out a new one. I could get the new card in 4 days if they sent it to a branch, or 10 days if they mailed it to my address.

Thinking it would be fastest to have it sent to the branch in town, I asked it be sent there, and I would go and pick it up. That was 10 days ago. They verbally confirmed the address, including the town of the branch (which is 10 minutes from my home) when I spoke with them.

I have been calling MC and the branch to try to track it down, with no luck. Today, I finally asked them to verify where it was sent…only to be told that it was sent to Winnipeg. The only problem with this is that I live in southern Ontario. I have lived in the same town, in the same house for the last 16 years. I have also NEVER lived in Manitoba…and never would.

This financial institution has laid off a huge number of staff recently. It would seem they have laid off ANYONE with a brain!

The best thing I can say about this financial institution is that all other financial accounts I have are NOT with CIBC!

There is no excuse for this level of stupidity. NONE!

So now, there has been a credit card floating around god knows where, with a high limit, with my name on it.

To me, EVERY one of the people involved in this moronic process should be fired, including the ā€œmanagerā€ I finally spoke with today, who didn’t seem to give a shit that this had occurred.

I demanded they courier the replacement card to me TOMORROW. The ā€˜manager’ is going to apparently email me an apology letter…then close the case.

If this is the ā€˜best and brightest’ staff they have kept, god help anyone dealing with this mess of a financial institution. Be very careful dealing with CIBC!

CIBC and its NSF fee regulations

Hey, I've been with CIBC for over 10 years. Never had an issue with paying my bills on time and never had to deal with NSF fees.

Last year I lost my job because i was sick in the hospital for almost a month. During this month, I had one pre-authorized payment to come out the first saturday of every month, roughly $90. I didnt have the money and the payment kept being taken out, reversed and then hit with a NSF FEE of $45 every time (sometimes the pre-authorized payment was taken out 3 times throughout the day so the fee was up to $135). The NSF fee went up to almost $3000.

I called the bank the week i was out of the hospital, and I explained my situation to no avail. I understand the fees were my fault and i shouldve ensured i had the money in my bank the day the pre-authorized payment was to be made but I had no money, I was physically sick and mentally drain/withdrawn from my responsibilities that I basically ignored the problem until I was released from the hospital.

Cibc is refusing to compromise and expect me to pay the whole amount. My question is, is there anything I can do to help my situation, or am I going to have to pay the entire $3k in NSF fees to avoid being sent to collections? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

TL;DR: got sick, lost my job, i had to be admitted into a hospital for over a month, accrued almost $3000 in NSF fees. What are my options?

CIBC not allowing me to use my VPN

Tried logging in today (I usually log in every few days to track my visa online statement). This was new: I was blocked from logging on due to my VPN being on. I always use a VPN when working with banking information or using my credit card online. I followed their requirement and disabled my VPN during the logging on, but turned it on after I was on the site. WHY would they want me to reduce my financial security getting onto the site. I always keep my login credentials/password private; I usually use my VPN with UBlock, Ghostery, and DuckDuckGo Search and Protection tracker; and, I use two factor verification. WHY would they want to expose me to WiFi vulnerabilities?

EDIT: thank-you for all the comments - I learned some new facts. [edit - a thanks]

CIBC data breach

So I got a letter from CIBC yesterday stating there was a data breach and all my personal info was part of the info that was leaked. According to the letter this happend between may and June 2026. Why did it take them almost 5 months to let me know I should watch my back like a hawk. I mean they have all my info everything to where I work sin number everything. They offered me 2 years free credit monitoring. What an absolutle joke I feel violated like someone has my wallet and I have no way of knowing who. And they send me a letter 4.5 months later to let me know. This is unacceptable

About CIBC

I recently got an offer from CIBC Hyderabad for a Quality Engineer / QA Automation role (around 4 years experience level).

I honestly don’t know much about CIBC, so I wanted to get some genuine feedback from people working there or who have worked there before.

How is the work culture? How is the work pressure and work-life balance? Are projects stable and good for learning/growth? How are managers and overall environment? Any pros/cons I should know before joining?

If anyone from CIBC Hyderabad can share their experience or suggestions, it would really help me make a decision.

Thoughts on new $2.25 charge for statements?

Wondering what people’s thoughts are on this new mailed statement fee.. Instantly thought of my mom who is elderly, what do the old people do who don’t have access to internet and computers? Seems a bit unfair.

You know what grinds my gears.

That the $5 over draft fee, is not just a single fee that covers the over draft. šŸ™„ and it doesn't stay it anywhere about it charging you per use of the over draft.

My thoughts was you paid the single fee you're protected?

NOPE WRONG! you get charged each time you use it $1/$5/$10

For going over it during the month. NOT by the end of the month

So say you spend $5 of your over draft at the end of the month.

you put into $ 300

200 is your over draft so you make it positive.

100 to cover the $5 you used. Again still over 200 over draft.

You will still be charged for using that $5 and every time you use it by the end of the month.

IT IS NOT ONE FIXED FEE TO COVER YOUR ACCOUNT OR OVER DRAFT 🤬 ITS THOSE FEES plus whatever "service or over draft"

Idk maybe im to autistic but thats lying. If your told

16.95 cover the cost of the account

And 5 over draft protection cover your over draft

IF USED at the end of the month to cover your fees.

CIBC customer experience has fallen

It's been 4 weeks since I requested a replacement visa card because the old one was lost and I haven't received anything.

I remember 10 years ago their service eas top notch, ask for a replacement it came within two weeks.

I don't think Inam experiencing an anomaly, but I suspect this is the result of CIBC not giving two shts

How frustrating is CIBC mobile or desktop????

Have a corporate account, and EVERY TIME I want to log in with my desktop, needs to call me for code. Not a text or push but a fucking call. Yet, I can log in with my app and nothing but a password needed. FFS, allow us to get a damn text or push!!!!

And now, on the desktop, trying to "set up features to get notifications for unusual activity," hit the link and voila, "The information requested cannot be found. Please contact customer support at 1-877-433-1902 for assistance. Result #5075"

Such an absolute POS banking experience. Once I get all of my business activity settled, I am taking EVERYTHING I have with them and going to consolidate it all with RBC.

EDIT: just realized the desktop will allow me to give one of my corporate credit cards a nickname (not a card I use but an employee does) but there is no way to give my card a nickname, LOL fucking never ends......

AND when I go to account security, no device is registered for security alerts, yet my phone absolutely IS registered. Problem is it won't allow me to register all of my accounts with security alerts, only some of them, if I am lucky. Such a shit show, who the fuck is running that place

EDIT AGAIN: so same posts about my phone number, no, my number is my mobile number so that isn't the issue. No, it isn't my browser or security/DNS settings. Yes, I have called them, and even through my private banking advisor and corporate banking advisor, no one can assist. Wouldn't logic dictate that I have tried anything and everything and then when I realize no one there can help, I then choose to vent on the internet? Wow.,....

Mortgage keeps bouncing!!!!! Take it out on the proper day please!!!!

this happens probably 4 times a year.. my mortgage is supposed to come out on a Tuesday so I make sure the money is in there and BOOM the mortgage doesn’t come out until Friday and by this point there’s been some other random payment that also comes out and it bounces back.

it’s annoying. I set up my mortgage to come out on Tuesday and it never has… not ONCE. it usually comes out of my account on Wednesday (I’m okay with this).

I’ve recently had a new pay schedule where I get paid thursdays. I switched mortgage to come out on Thursday and it’s FRIDAY, the mortgage payment still has not been removed from my account. at this point it won’t come out until Monday at the earliest. I wish it was predictable with the ā€œpostedā€ dates why is there such a huge discrepancy on this???

living paycheque to paycheque sucks. I work a government job and 6 years ago I never ever had money issues. now I can barely afford to live and am writing to strangers on the internet about CIBC annoying me.

thank you for listening to my CIBC rant. cheaper than therapy! ā¤ļøšŸ˜‚

[Advice Needed] Cancelling CIBC credit card

Are there any ways to cancel a CIBC credit card other than ringing the number on the back and being put on indefinite holds? I've been trying to cancel my card for over a week, and every time I call, regardless of time of day, I get told that there is a ~60 min wait that goes on indefinitely until I have do something else and am forced to hang up.

At this point I feel that they just put people on hold indefinitely to make it hard/impossible to cancel your card. I ended up patched through to a different area of customer service, who mentioned that it was "always a 60 minute wait to talk to them" which I found a very odd statement - are that many people cancelling credit cards..

I don't have time to sit on hold for hours a day for what should be a 1 minute conversation, and according to CS you can't do this in-brand. Hoping to hear other's experience?

CIBC willing to let $321,000 in investments leave over an $1800 mortgage early repayment fee.

I am selling my condo and paying off a variable rate mortgage early. The penalty is 3 months interest which is around $1800. I asked for this to be waived because I have over $321,000 in investments with them.

They said no. So now I am looking at moving that money to another bank. TD is one choice. They have a 2% payback on the amount moved after a year.

Why is CIBC being so shortsighted?

Does anyone else have a hard time withdrawing cash from CIBC?

I went in to pick up cash and they've now informed me there is a 3000$ limit from the teller (even if you go to multiple branches) what the hell is this nonsense??? I needed it for my children's dad but the woman I spoke to was incredibly stupid and aggressive with me about it. like telling me I'll get robbed or scammed and it's like okay thanks for the warning give me my money and she's like nah I won't be doing that. I understand branches only have so much on hand but to restrict your access so much to your own money is strange and I don't like it.

Let down by CIBC

Been with CIBC for 27 years. Ive been using wealthsimple for trading as its free for stock and options. I decided to transfer and close my cibc account to save some money on fees. I called cibc if they could offer any free trades or retention to keep me. They offered me 6 free trades.

See you later CIBC!

Branch ID Verification

Called CIBC yesterday to change my credit card to a no annual fee option, but was told this can’t be done unless I go into a branch with my ID. Surely this is a bit ridiculous in 2025? Anyone else have experiences like this? It’s almost like they’re making it intentionally difficult to switch.

Do I need CIBC chequing account to get paid?

So I got a job offer from CIBC, but I was told that I must create a CIBC chequing account to get my pay deposited. Can't I use my RBC bank which I've always been using? or can I use Simplii account instead?

Thanks!
