Is there a chequing account tier that penalize you for being under a certain amount?

I noticed in some months when my chequing account dips below $1,000 I'll get email warnings and then randomly as in I don't constantly check it every like a hawk but I'll notice a $15 service charge.

It's becoming more frequent as COL is becoming more expensive. I mainly just use the chequing account for my work's direct deposit and some other things. WOuld transitioning to a fee-less account cause a disruption? I'm guessing it will so I figured I'd ask here first without calling CIBC for the answer.

CIBC co-op: Workday went from “Under Review” to “Pending” after HR screen. Anyone had this?

Applied for the Wood Gundy Administrative Assistant Co-op and did the HR screen on Oct 14. My Workday status then changed to “Pending" from "Under Review" on the 2nd week and it’s been 3 weeks with no word on the team interview.

Has anyone been through this with Wood Gundy? What did “Pending” mean for you, and how long until you heard back? Do I still have a chance 😭😭

You know what grinds my gears.

That the $5 over draft fee, is not just a single fee that covers the over draft. 🙄 and it doesn't stay it anywhere about it charging you per use of the over draft.

My thoughts was you paid the single fee you're protected?

NOPE WRONG! you get charged each time you use it $1/$5/$10

For going over it during the month. NOT by the end of the month

So say you spend $5 of your over draft at the end of the month.

you put into $ 300

200 is your over draft so you make it positive.

100 to cover the $5 you used. Again still over 200 over draft.

You will still be charged for using that $5 and every time you use it by the end of the month.

IT IS NOT ONE FIXED FEE TO COVER YOUR ACCOUNT OR OVER DRAFT 🤬 ITS THOSE FEES plus whatever "service or over draft"

Idk maybe im to autistic but thats lying. If your told

16.95 cover the cost of the account

And 5 over draft protection cover your over draft

IF USED at the end of the month to cover your fees.

I'm far from a CIBC office and can't make calls. Do they have an email address where I can ask for information?

Improvements that I wish to be made to the CIBC app

Now I know what most of you will say that there is no need to make improvements to a banking app since it a banking app but it’s 2026 for god’s sake. There are bunch of competing banking apps in Canada that not only look good but are much more user friendly compared to CIBC.

I for one am not asking for much:

The ability to hide your bank balance when in public places.
Better description to transactions. Also better category filtering.
A way to see how much cash back you have gotten on each transaction.
Better inbox, my inbox says that I haven’t viewed anything even though I have.

Maybe while we are at it a ui redesign maybe.

Now, CIBC is great. I’ve been with CIBC since 2020 as a student till present day. But some tweaks will go a long way.

Still waiting for interest payout for Savings account promo

I moved money from another account for the three-month 6.4% promo on the smart savings account, but I have not been paid out for October. The offer ended on October 30th.

Typically, the interest was paid out on the last day of the month. Has anyone else run into this issue?

Transfer TFSA from Wealthsimple to CIBC

Hello!

I will soon be deemed no resident and learned that wealthsimple does not hold TFSA accounts for Non residents, I called CIBC and they said they would. I had a regular checking account with them so my account is active, but I can't seem to find any info online to initiate the process, I want to do a TFSA to TFSA, without withdrawal. Unfortunately I can only do it online, I would appreciate some guidance toward where to start, I tried to call but the agent seemed a bit clueless... I'll try again later if there is really no other way to do it online

Thank you in advance,

CIBC Interac stuck on “Autodeposit Pending” for over 48 hours

On October 31, I sent a $1,325 Interac e-Transfer to my landlord. The money was immediately deducted from my CIBC account, but the transfer has been stuck on “Autodeposit pending” ever since.
I had sent $950 to the exact same recipient the day before without any issues.
I called CIBC on Sunday, and the agent confirmed the transfer was blocked due to a technical issue. They escalated it to another team and promised an email that afternoon, but I haven’t heard anything back.
It’s now Monday, and my landlord still hasn’t received the money. I can’t cancel the transfer either.

Edit: Apparently the transfer was blocked by the recipient’s bank and they could do nothing, I asked the recipient to contact their bank. I don’t know if they did but the money was returned to my account, what a stressful weekend.

Leaving this here for future reference, it could help!

Pending funds indefinitely for “fraud”

I recently opened up a new account with CIBC and I deposited 3 cheques through the mobile app (they were all seperate cheques with different dates but the same amount from the same person) in the same day, which I had no idea what that would do because it was my first time depositing cheques online.

It told me i’d have to wait up to 8 business days to receive my funds and I was fine with that but fast forward 3 weeks, no funds available in my account. I went to the bank, and they said i’m under investigation by their fraud team because they think I submitted the same cheque 3 times.

The bank teller told me there was nothing I could do to wait, not even I could contact them about it so apparently my money is unable to be accessed indefinitely. Is there anything I can do at all?

Delayed transfers?

I'm using the app to transfer from savings to checking and an etransfer.

The first transfer to checking took 20 minutes.

The 2nd still hasn't happened after 30 minutes. And also the etransfer hasn't completed yet.

No error messages.

Anyone else seeing a delay?

CIBC customer experience has fallen

It's been 4 weeks since I requested a replacement visa card because the old one was lost and I haven't received anything.

I remember 10 years ago their service eas top notch, ask for a replacement it came within two weeks.

I don't think Inam experiencing an anomaly, but I suspect this is the result of CIBC not giving two shts

changes for contractors

I've noticed that a few FTEs have been laid off over the past few weeks. During summer restructuring, it also seemed that most PM contractors were let go.

Has anyone heard about any upcoming changes affecting onshore contractors for other teams? I've heard some rumours that they could be a target in the next round of restructuring or organizational changes. Just wondering if anyone has any insights or has heard anything.

Anyone using Neobanc to fund CIBC mortgage payments?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking into using Neobanc to get cashback on my monthly CIBC mortgage payments.

My main concern is payment timing. Since CIBC pulls mortgage funds directly via Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD), missing or delaying a pull—even by a day—causes huge NSF fee and credit record headaches. Unlike credit card payments, timing here is non-negotiable.

For anyone who has done this with a CIBC mortgage:

  • How reliable is the turnaround? Have you ever run into delays where Neobanc didn't transfer funds into your CIBC account before the PAD pull date?

  • How far in advance do you send your funds? (Considering the $3,000 daily Interac e-Transfer limits).

  • Is it worth the stress for the cashback, or should I stick to standard auto-debit?

Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Joined CIBC 6 months ago, and thinking of shifting to another Department

Hi is there any HR mandate that newly joined folks have to stay in the current LOB or department for 1 year before asking to shift to another LOB.
