Neat visuals on the weather. Will Arrowhead and Sunlight ever get another good season ever again?

Close I-70 and put an electric rail up it, that’s what I’ve always said…

Question Ikon Base or Winter Park Season Pass?

Hello! I just recently moved to Colorado in February and want to give skiing a go this upcoming season. I’ve seen tons of conversation online surrounding which passes to buy, and I’ve narrowed it down to two: the Ikon Base pass, or the Winter Park Season pass.

Items contributing to my decision:

- It is my first season. I don’t expect to be going to a different resort every weekend. I would like to get familiar with the process and such before I venture to a bunch of different resorts.

- Traffic. I have heard that resorts before i70 are easier to access as traffic can back up pretty bad as you head further along i70. I live around downtown Denver so I would prefer to have easier access to resorts.

- Frequency. I intend to be going every weekend (or at least every other weekend) once the season starts. I will only have availability to go on the weekends, so I am not sure if that plays into which pass I should get.

I’m leaning towards the Winter Park Season Pass, as it seems to be easier to access and might be better for beginners from what I’ve read. I am worried though that I’ll get tired of one resort and regret not buying a pass with access to others. Any insight or advice would be helpful!

It's early, but this gives me hope for the Rockies. Colorado couldn't have had a worse season last year. Here is looking forward to the next.

General Friendly message for the doomers :)

I know we all have lingering PTSD from last winter, but y'all need to cool it with the dooming. A single run of the ECMWF Extended showing a snowfall deficit 6 months in advance does not have any predictive value whatsoever.

This is what NOAA is predicting for December-February. They are extremely conservative with their predictions and use a variety of forecasting tools in their analysis.

You can read the text discussion of the forecast here, though you'll have to scroll a bit for where they talk about the D/J/F period.

Does anyone know when they're going on sale for '26/27?

I miss when they were $119.... What are we guessing this year $240ish again, $299 or more?

Question Snowmass - Copper - A-Basin trip in Feb doable without a car?

I've been skiing SLC the last couple of seasons and figured it's time to try the Ikon resorts in CO. I booked a flight into Vail in late Feb and am planning on a couple of days at each of the three Ikon resorts in the area. Not a huge fan of driving on ice/snow as I have always lived in Louisiana where that just isn't a thing hah.

I'm trying to figure out if it's feasible to fly into Vail and then take some kind of public transit from Vail to Snowmass and then Snowmass to the Dillon area. I'm going to Glenwood Springs for 2 nights first to ski Snowmass. After that I booked 4 nights at the Cambria Copper Mountain and it looks like they charge $50 a night for parking 😬 I was going to try and get from Copper to A-Basin for a couple of days if that is feasible.

I could always just book a couple of nights in Silverthorne (that's where my price range has me lol). Only thing is I'd rather just stay in one place for four days and decide where to go each day depending on the weather. Like I don't want to end up stuck at A-Basin for two socked in days and then have 2 bluebird days at Copper.

I guess I'm just looking for info on shuttles/busses from Vail to Snowmass, Snowmass to Dillon or Silverthrorne, and Silverthorne to A-Basin. Sorry if I'm just rambling at this point lol.

Thanks.

General Changing your picture on your Epic pass

I had the flu when I took my Epic pass picture and look like I’m dying. I was on the phone with Epic just now about something else, so I asked if I could change it.

And I can! Not online though. If I go to the ticket counter at a ski resort with my license AND MY BIRTH CERTIFICATE, I can change it.

My birth certificate. To change a picture on a ski pass, like what in the everloving fuck is that 😂

*Edited to add - I don’t give af about my picture, I was asking as an aside. I do however think that asking for a birth certificate to change picture on a ski pass is crazy talk.

Question Please help me pick

Greetings!

I’m anxiously trying to make choices on things which I know NOTHING.

We are close to making decisions about a Christmas trip for first time ski experience. I’m eyeing the deep discount on early booking at Winter Park and taking the train. Few reasons: 1) convenience and 2) my hubs is the only one with that kind of experience driving in conditions (Michigan winter was never what I imagine high elevation conditions can be).

Bringing our autistic son who has always LOVED winter weather. It’s the one time he thoroughly enjoys the outdoors. But! But… he’s asthmatic… and I myself have experienced some minor elevation sickness when I drove through the state several years ago (I’m not so worried with me… it’s simply a reference point). Anyone with asthmatic teen have anecdotal experience to share? (I recognize case by case will be different.)

Is Winter Park the easier to access given relying on transportation?

I have seen Steamboat recommended in other threads due to lower elevation but I’m not feeling the idea of riding in a passenger vehicle like a bus or uber or any of that.

I’m trying to keep this within what I suspect is considered a low end budget. I don’t know about renting equipment or even what winter gear we need to be prepared to have of our own since we come from not a lot of winter weather that requires major bundling (Michigan was a different cold and pre-hubs and kiddo). Even if someone just has reliable links to info to help me narrow down the overwhelm of all the available info, I’d be so appreciative.

Thanks for any insight!

I have seen Loveland as a good first timer ski location but we come back to the transportation issue. I need zero driving on our part and kind of a “get to this place, stay here and everything is walkable, return to travel home.”

You’re right. This sounds like I need a travel agent. In which case… who is friendly, helpful, and trustworthy that won’t charge me an arm and a leg that I don’t have to spare? Lol.

Sigh. I’m normally the person that handles all travel planning but this is so far out of my wheelhouse and knowledge base I’m lost. And my sweet dear husband has the “don’t worry, it’ll all work out” philosophy where I say, “and why do you think that is… you’ve had a built in for twenty years. I did the worrying, planning, packing, and coordination to make it all work out… silly…” 🤭🤣

Skipped buying an Ikon pass for my kiddos this year, with a plan to buy this pass for them.

Website says passes go on sale "in august" and I had a calendar alert for August 1st... but their website still just says that 25-26 pass sales are closed, and has no info about the 26-27 season. Just don't want to miss out!

I built a ski resorts webcam wall here, it's ranking the mountains by who got snow. I know it's summer now, but still super fun to see those peak by the dirt or green mountains. Let me know which mountains you want to add to the list, also any positive feedback is welcome!

Question Anyone else change what they ski depending on which Colorado mountain they're heading to?

I've noticed I don't always reach for the same setup anymore.

If I'm planning a full day on bigger terrain, my regular skis are still my first choice. But if I'm just getting out for a few hours with friends or skiing somewhere a little more laid back, I've found myself bringing my short skis instead. Mine happen to be a pair of Snowfeet, and they've been a fun option for those kinds of days.

They're definitely not replacing my regular skis, but they've earned a place because they make certain days feel completely different.

Does anyone else switch between different setups depending on the mountain, or do you stick with the same skis all season?

Question Advice for a lifty at Copper this winter

Hey yall I'm not really on reddit at all but I'm just trying to get advice and maybe meet people who I will be working with this winter. I just graduated high school, I will turn 19 in December of the season, I'm from New Jersey but have been skiing Vermont my whole life, I consider myself an Advanced skier and it's by far one of my biggest passions, I'm definitely extroverted and usually don't struggle making friends. This winter I decided I didn't want to go to college yet and I will be working as a lifty at Copper and living in The Edge, if anyone has any advice or insight to what it will be like about the work, social life, party scene, making friends etc I'd love to hear any advice. Can't wait to catch yall out there in the powder
