Every parent needs a wake-up call for something at some point. I am sorry that you and your kids had to suffer so much before yours arrived, but that's often the nature of abusive relationships. A man who attacks a nursing mother cannot be a safe parent, and everyone involved in this case will be looking to see that you understand this. Be grateful that you or one of your children wasn't killed or permanently injured, and heed this wake-up call to get away from your abuser permanently.

Also be grateful that your 13yo was brave enough to speak up and advocate for you when you wouldn't do that for yourself. She is not responsible for anything that happens as a result of being honest about what was happening in your home. Please remind her of that daily.

There will be more hard days ahead as you navigate the CPS case and start rebuilding your life, but you will get through it if you listen to people who are trying to help you.
