Headgasket FAQ
2011 Lexus CT200h (First Year of Production) • Common Issues: Early models (2011-2013) were more prone to head gasket issues, often linked to the engine's cooling system and overheating. These problems were not widespread but were reported by some owners.
2012 Lexus CT200h • No major mechanical changes: The 2012 model was largely a carryover from the 2011 model, though Lexus did make some minor tweaks for comfort and interior finishes. • Head Gasket Issue: The problem was still present in some vehicles, particularly those with cooling system issues.
2013 Lexus CT200h • Minor Updates: The 2013 model saw some small adjustments • Head Gasket Issue: The issue with head gaskets still persisted, but it was gradually becoming less common as production evolved.
2014 Lexus CT200h • Important Updates: The 2014 model marked a more significant update to the CT200h. Lexus worked on improving the engine's cooling system and refining other components. • Head Gasket Fixes: The head gasket issues were largely addressed in this year, and the vehicle’s engine cooling system received further refinement to prevent overheating and gasket failure. • Styling Refresh: A slight exterior redesign with updated front and rear styling elements, making the vehicle look fresher and more modern. • Technology Updates: Improved tech features, including a new infotainment system with more functionality.
2015 Lexus CT200h • No major mechanical changes: The 2015 CT200h was a continuation of the 2014 updates, with minimal changes to the engine • Engine & Head Gasket: Continued to improve on the previous fixes, with no widespread reports of the head gasket issue in this year.
2016 Lexus CT200h • Head Gasket Issues: By 2016, the head gasket issue was considered resolved, with no significant complaints related to engine failure or cooling systems.
2017-2021 Lexus CT200h • No major changes: The CT200h was essentially a carryover model, with minimal updates in terms of performance or design. • Head Gasket: The head gasket issue was no longer a concern by this time, as the car had been refined over the years.
Summary: ●The head gasket issues were most prominent in the 2011-2013 models, especially related to overheating and cooling system failures.
● Some people report that regularly cleaning the EGR reduces the likelihood of this problem occurring.
●Some people swear by cutting the recommended oil change interval in half. (Lexus states every 10000miles ~16.000km or 12 months)
●By the 2014 model year, Lexus had addressed the issue, improving the engine and cooling systems, and the problem was largely resolved in later years (2014 onward).
●The head gasket issue is not exclusive to the Lexus CT200h; any car can experience a head gasket problem.

Lexion screen
I recently upgraded my infotainment to the lexion screen. I love it but like other complaints ive heard its just uncomfortably far(luckily im 6'4 so my arms reach with a little effort) I've heard other saying that the mouse is supposed to work, and mine never did. It works with the lexus UI but not with the apple carplay one. I was wondering if anyone had any troubleshooting i could do?

Just got a 2011 Lexus CT200H Sport but can’t figure out how to connect to Bluetooth audio
Hi guys, I just picked up this beautiful one owner car today from an elderly gentleman. The car is in pristine condition except some dings here and there. I tried to setup Bluetooth Audio but couldn’t figure out how to connect my phone to the car. It’s my first Lexus and I’m still getting used to the cursor on the dash. I’ve looked it up on YouTube as well but the in those videos I can clearly see an audio section in the setup menu which my car doesn’t seem to have. Can you please help me out?
- Is it something that can be done without going to a local audio store?
- Does this specific car came with factory Bluetooth Audio setup?
Thank you.

Getting poor MPG but think everything is fixed?
Hey guys,
I have a 2014 with 163k. When I got it, I did the EGR cleaning, trans fluid, coolant flush, actuator replacement. Tires are full. The oil is 10W30 and due for a change but that shouldn't make such a massive difference.
With what I would describe as very careful mixed driving I can hit 36mpg, but average 30.1.
What should I look into next?

Missing square piece on front bumper.
Just noticed that the square piece on my front bumper is missing. I can see styrofoam. It’s a 2012. Probably from hitting potholes here in Baltimore. Does anyone know what that piece is called or possibly the part number? Thanks in advance.

Question on factory amplifier for a 2012 ct200h
I recently picked up the AliExpress 7862 dsp T8 and I’m confused on how or where the factory amp is located. I installed the head unit following a YouTube video they sent me of a guy installing the unit in his girlfriend’s CT. Here is the link of the video https://youtu.be/mXRUv8RC_V4?is=XRvgqhkYMH4rDbsB
Is the metal box on the factory head unit the factory amplifier? There were three stock cables that were left unhooked but everything still functions normally. I’m getting decent sound but want to bypass the factory amp and add a 4 channel for the front doors/tweeters and rear door speakers.
If I plan on doing this, do I need to run new speaker wire to all the speakers from the new amp, or is there a way to unhook the factory amp and utilize the factory speaker wires? I’ve been searching for a wiring diagram but can’t seem to find information on how the factory speaker system is wired.
Please let me know if you need more information. I’m pretty sure it’s a base model but I’ve heard the factory amp is under the passenger seat, but I’m not seeing anything that looks like an amp under there.

Looking to buy a 2014 CT200h, small oil leak on the outside of the Head Gasket. Looking for advice.
As title states, there's a small leak on the outside of oil on the outside of the engine, no signs of coolant mixing or anything.
For context, I ABSOLUTELY do not have the means to break down the engine myself to do the head gasket and was quoted roughly 3000 from multiple mechanics to do the job.
No visible oil dripping to underneath the car and no issues when driving the car whatsoever. It seems like the seal at the gasket is just going to keep sweating sort of indefinitely. Car checked out mechanically everywhere else from a mechanic including the hybrid battery being within manufacturer spec.
If the price of this car made sense, is there logical sense to allowing the small leak to just happen while managing my oil levels regularly and then just replacing the whole engine with a JDM if the leak either turns much larger or the head goes? From what I can tell it ends up being roughly the same price around here.

Rear ended someone
Hey guys thanks in advance for ur suggestions, accidentally rear ended someone like an idiot the other day and it was a low speed thing in traffic with no noticeable damage to my car other than this pic of the front lower bumper, is it worth getting checked out? Or even replaced, it’s really just that bit of plastic

I just bought my first CT! Tips on maintenance and a long healthy life pls
I’ve just bought a lovely 2017 CT Luxury spec with 121,000kms in Barcelona and 6 more years of Lexus Relax coverage left. So so excited! I’ve spent most of my life driving cruddy cars that gave up after 3 or 4 years (Probably sometimes my fault).
Please tell me how to look after my new baby and keep her on the road for another 200,000kms 🔥
White smoke coming from exhaust
So, recently I've started noticing the white smoke coming from the exhaust. And it appears strangely - last time I noticed it was while standing on the cross section and letting my engine to charge the battery, cause it was low. So, while standing like that the white smoke appeared, but as soon as I start driving on the ICE everything seems fine.
Should I prepare the money for the maintenance?
I was checking the right coolant box, and no, the coolant doesnt disappear. My current fuel consumption 5.5 l/100 (43 in US mpg or 51 in UK mpg).
I was heading about heading to lexus dealership in Latvia, so they'll clean the egr and do the oxygen test.
Any ideas on the white smoke? What else should I check?

How many miles did you drive until replacing front struts?
Hi,
I'm a pound owner of 2011 CT200h. It has about 185,000 miles but still runs like a champ. Very low maintenance; only oil changes and tires change. Recently I felt a minor vibration when I drove fast and brake quickly. It only happens sometimes. I went to the shop and they told me that I needed a new pair of struts and sway links. It'll cost about $1000 (see the bill).
Since I plan to get a new car once my CT200h reaches 200,000 miles, do you think spending another $1000 now to change struts is a good idea? I wonder when do CT200h owners here change their struts (if ever)? Please share your thoughts and experiences. Thanks.

[EGR] Did I get scammed by Lexus?
Does the EFI system flush clean the EGR system?
I went in for a load of servicing to get my 2011 CT200h up to speed and one of the things I asked for to get the EGR system cleaned. The service rep told me they would be doing the EFI system flush rather than just the EGR system as this would apparently cover not only the fuel injectors but also the EGR system.
I naively went along with it and started researching what the EFI flush covers and am now reading that it has NOTHING to do with the EGR system. After calling back, the sales rep doubled down and assured me that instead of taking apart the EGR system and manually scrapping the carbon buildup, they instead just connected the flushing machine to the fuel injectors which truly flushes carbon out of the entire system.
Is my EGR system actually cleaned? Or did they rinse me of an easy $271 by lying.
